Immunohistochemical examinations of dyskeratosis and exocervical neoplasia in gynecological pathology

An immunohistochemical study was carried out with monoclonal antibodies to estrogen receptors (Ers), Ki-67, BCL-2, P53 and human papillomaviruses (HPV) of normal cervix (7 cases), cervical leukoplakia (5 cases), CIN I (7 cases) and CIN II-III (6 cases). Correlations were also investigated between hyperestrogenemia and molecular changes in the exocervix. About two thirds of patients with leukoplakia and precancerous changes had clinical signs of hyperestrogenemia which led to proliferation of estrogen-sensitive parabasal cells. Due to neoplastic epithelial transformation the number of cells with Ki-67, P53 and HPV positive reactions in the nuclei increased, while Ers and BCL-2 expression decreased. Because active proliferative parabasal cells are needed for HPV replication we consider hyperestrogenemia as a factor stimulating development of neoplastic changes in the uterine cervix.     

Use of a new biological factor--exogenous nitric oxide--during surgical treatment of periodontitis

In order to improve the efficiency of surgical treatment of periodontitis, the operative wound was exposed to nitrogen oxide (NO) during osteogingivoplasty and on days 3, 5, and 6 after it. Clinical and laboratory data making use of the cytomorphometrical method indicate that NO exposure decreased and maybe prevented secondary injury to the operation wound in up to 46.6% patients, which was confirmed by decrease and even normalization of destruction index and inflammatory destructive index on days 7 and 14, which was not observed in the reference group patients not exposed to NO.     

Epidemic situation of tuberculosis among HIV-infected patients in Russia and a system of preventive measures

The paper shows a poor prognosis of tuberculosis spread among HIV-infected patients in Russia for the years immediately ahead. Recommendations are given how to organize a tuberculosis controlling care to patients with HIV infection by taking into account its stages by aspects, such as prevention, diagnosis, medical examination, and treatment.
