Contamination of zirconia restorations before cementation can impair the resin–zirconia bonding durability. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of human saliva or blood decontamination with 10-methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (10-MDP)-containing cleaner on the resin–zirconia shear bond strength (SBS). Methods: A total of 220 zirconia specimens were prepared and air-abraded and randomly distributed into 11 groups (n = 20 per group). Except for the control group (no contamination), zirconia specimens were contaminated with either human saliva (five groups) or blood (five groups), and then subjected to one of five cleaning methods: water rinsing, 38% phosphoric acid etchant (Pulpdent Corp., Watertown, MA, USA), 70% isopropanol alcohol (Avalon Pharma, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia), Ivoclean (Ivoclar Vivadent, Schaan, Lichtenstein) and Katana Cleaner (Kuraray Noritake, Tokyo, Japan). The resin–zirconia SBS was tested at 24 h and after thermocycling (10 k cycles). Three-way ANOVA followed by Tukey’s multiple comparisons test were utilized to analyze the SBS data. Failure modes were evaluated using a scanning electron microscope. Results: Both blood and saliva significantly affected resin–zirconia SBS as contaminants. After thermocycling, there was no statistically significant difference between SBS obtained after decontamination with the Katana Cleaner (blood, 6.026 ± 2.805 MPa; saliva, 5.206 ± 2.212 MPa) or Ivoclean (blood, 7.08 ± 3.309 MPa; saliva, 6.297 ± 3.083 MPa), and the control group (no contamination, 7.479 ± 3.64 MPa). Adhesive and mixed failures were the most frequent among the tested groups. Conclusion: Both 10-MDP-containing cleaner (Katana Cleaner) and zirconium oxide-containing cleaner (Ivoclean) could eliminate the negative effect of saliva and blood contamination on resin–zirconia SBS. 相似文献

Four types of commercial mosquito control traps, the Mosquito Magnet Pro (MMP), the Sentinel 360 (S360), the BG-Sentinel (BGS), and the Mega-Catch Ultra (MCU), were compared with a standard Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) light trap for efficacy in collecting phlebotomine sand flies (Diptera: Psychodidae) in a small farming village in the Nile River Valley 10 km north of Aswan, Egypt. Each trap was baited with either carbon dioxide (CO2) from combustion of butane gas (MMP), dry ice (CDC and BGS traps), light (MCU and S360), or dry ice and light (CDC). Traps were rotated through five sites in a5 x 5 Latin square design, repeated four times during the height of the sand fly season (June, August, and September 2007) at a site where 94% of sand flies in past collections were Phlebotomus papatasi (Scopoli). A total of 6,440 sand flies was collected, of which 6,037 (93.7%) were P. papatasi. Of the CO2-baited traps, the BGS trap collected twice as many P. papatasi as the MMP and CDC light traps, and at least three times more P. papatasi than the light-only MCU and S360 traps (P < 0.05). Mean numbers (+/- SE) of P. papatasi captured per trap night were as follows: BGS 142.1 (+/- 45.8) > MMP 56.8 (+/- 9.0) > CDC 52.3 (+/- 6.1) > MCU 38.2 (+/- 6.4) > S360 12.6 (+/- 1.8). Results indicate that several types of commercial traps are suitable substitutes for the CDC light trap in sand fly surveillance programs. 相似文献

Islet-sparing effects of protein tyrosine phosphatase-1b deficiency delays onset of diabetes in IRS2 knockout mice 总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
Protein tyrosine phosphatase-1b (Ptp1b) inhibits insulin and leptin signaling by dephosphorylating specific tyrosine residues in their activated receptor complexes. Insulin signals are mediated by tyrosine phosphorylation of the insulin receptor and its downstream targets, such as Irs1 and Irs2. Irs2 plays an especially important role in glucose homeostasis because it mediates some peripheral actions of insulin and promotes pancreatic beta-cell function. To determine whether the deletion of Ptp1b compensates for the absence of Irs2, we analyzed mice deficient in both Ptp1b and Irs2. Pancreatic beta-cell area decreased in Ptp1b(-/-) mice, consistent with decreased insulin requirements owing to increased peripheral insulin sensitivity. By contrast, peripheral insulin sensitivity and beta-cell area increased in Irs2(-/-)::Ptp1b(-/-) mice, which improved glucose tolerance in Irs2(-/-)::Ptp1b(-/-) mice and delayed diabetes until 3 months of age. However, beta-cell function eventually failed to compensate for absence of Irs2. Our studies demonstrate a novel role for Ptp1b in regulating beta-cell homeostasis and indicate that Ptp1b deficiency can partially compensate for lack of Irs2. 相似文献

PURPOSE: To describe the clinical presentation and histologic findings in a patient with metastatic mesothelioma presenting to the ophthalmologist with nonaxial proptosis. DESIGN: Case report. METHODS: A 55-year-old man presented with a short history of progressive ocular discomfort and vertical diplopia. Clinical examination identified nonaxial proptosis. Subsequent computed tomography showed a large extraconal mass consistent with a malignant process. Three months earlier the patient had been diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma. Unfortunately, he died 3 months after his ophthalmic presentation. Postmortem examination confirmed metastatic mesothelioma in the orbital roof that was histologically identical to the primary pleural malignancy. CONCLUSION: Pleural mesothelioma can metastasize to the orbit, causing proptosis. 相似文献

The EDTA and sodium caprate (Na caprate) effects on the oral bioavailability of norfloxacin were tested. It was found that absorption kinetic of norfloxacin was markedly accelerated when mixed with EDTA or Na caprate in a ratio of 1:1. When mixed with the absorption enhancers in a ratio of 1:5, only Na caprate improved norfloxacin bioavailability significantly. In vitro dissolution tests demonstrated that EDTA and Na caprate increased norfloxacin dissolution kinetic. However, the correlation between bioavailability and in vitro dissolution improvement was not clearly established. So, we can conclude that the solubilizing property of EDTA and Na caprate did not take a prominent part in norfloxacin absorption. 相似文献

PROBLEM: The objective of this study was to determine the levels of cytokines in the placentas of women undergoing preterm delivery (PTD) or premature rupture of membranes (PROM) as compared with women undergoing normal delivery at term. METHOD OF STUDY: Placentas were obtained from 30 subjects with spontaneous PTD, 30 women with PROM and 30 women with a history of normal delivery at term. Levels of interleukin (IL)-2, interferon (IFN)-gamma, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha, TNF-beta, IL-4, IL-5, IL-6 and IL-10 and IL-12 were estimated by ELISA in detergent lysates of placentas from the subjects. RESULTS: We found significantly increased levels of the Th1 cytokines IL-2 and IFN gamma and of the Th1-inducing cytokine IL-12 in placentas from the PTD and PROM groups as compared with those delivering at term. In contrast, the levels of the Th2 cytokines IL-4, IL-6 and IL-10 were significantly higher in placentas from term pregnancy. CONCLUSIONS: These data support our observation of a pro-inflammatory cytokine bias in women with PTD and PROM. 相似文献
