Body piercing, which is prevalent in young adults, has been suggested to be associated with features usually related to posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) such as high‐risk behaviours and psychopathological symptoms and might be motivated by a wish to deal with prior traumatic experiences. However, to date, no research has investigated the relationship between this practice and PTSD symptoms. The present research aims to investigate the possible relationship between body piercing and PTSD symptoms in French‐speaking young adults. According to our results, having two or more body piercings was associated with a twofold increased risk for scoring above the cut‐off score for PTSD on the PTSD checklist. Our findings suggest that two or more body piercings might serve as an identifiable marker for PTSD symptoms and may have important implications for clinical screening. INTRODUCTIONCancer in pregnancy is rare and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) during pregnancy is even rarer. Due to limited experience, management of these patients remains challenging.PRESENTATION OF CASEA 33-year old pregnant lady presented with HCC at 28 weeks of gestation. She underwent synchronous cesarean section and right hepatectomy at 32 weeks of gestation. The post-operative course was uneventful. She was discharged home on day 10 after surgery. Histolopathology confirmed HCC. The surgical resection margins were clear. At a follow-up of 3 months after surgery, the mother was disease free and the infant was well.DISCUSSIONHCC during pregnancy is extremely rare. The experience in its management and outcomes are lacking. In managing any patient diagnosed with a malignant neoplasm in pregnancy, both the mother and the fetus have to be considered.CONCLUSIONWith adequate preoperative assessment and a good management strategy, good results can be obtained for both the mother and the baby for a pregnant patient with HCC. 相似文献

In many brain areas, few cholinergic synapses are identified. Acetylcholine is released into the extracellular space and acts through diffuse transmission. Motoneurons, however, are contacted by numerous cholinergic terminals, indicating synaptic cholinergic transmission on them. The muscarinic m2 receptor is the major acetylcholine receptor subtype of motoneurons; therefore, we analyzed the localization of the m2 receptor in correlation with synapses by electron microscopic immunohistochemistry in the mouse trigeminal, facial, and hypoglossal motor nuclei. In all nuclei, m2 receptors were localized at the membrane of motoneuronal perikarya and dendrites. The m2 receptors were concentrated at cholinergic synapses located on the perikarya and most proximal dendrites. However, m2 receptors at cholinergic synapses represented only a minority (<10%) of surface m2 receptors. The m2 receptors were also enriched at glutamatergic synapses in both motoneuronal perikarya and dendrites. A relatively large proportion (20–30%) of plasma membrane–associated m2 receptors were located at glutamatergic synapses. In conclusion, the effect of acetylcholine on motoneuron populations might be mediated through a synaptic as well as diffuse type of transmission. J. Comp. Life space crisis intervention (LSCI) is a therapeutic and verbal strategy used to intervene when children are in crisis. It has its roots in the work of Aichorn, Redl, Wineman and Bettelheim, and is part of the milieu-therapeutic tradition. In 2000, LSCI was introduced at the Orthopedagogical Observation and Treatment Centre, a school and day unit for 60 children with emotional and behavioural disorders affiliated with the Department of Orthopedagogy at Ghent University (Belgium). The particular position of orientation towards ‘therapeutic environments’ in the department’s history has encouraged the integration of LSCI in the daily activities of the departments’ school (Broekaert et al., Int J Ther Communities 30(2):122–145, 2009). In 2003, LSCI was implemented and studied in several Flemish Institutes. Positive effects were found on school results, attendance in the classroom and number of conflicts. In this article, the reflections of the caretakers are taken into account. Analyses of these reflections resulted in 4 major themes: content of job and tasks, the youth in the centre, working with the youth in the centre, and cooperation with colleagues and other teams. Post-translational modifications play a key role in tau protein aggregation and related neurodegeneration. Because hyperphosphorylation alone does not necessarily cause tau aggregation, other post-translational modifications have been recently explored. Tau acetylation promotes aggregation and inhibits tau’s ability to stabilize microtubules. Recent studies have shown co-localization of acetylated and phosphorylated tau in AD and some 4R tauopathies. We developed a novel monoclonal antibody against acetylated tau at lysine residue 274, which recognizes both 3R and 4R tau, and used immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence to probe 22 cases, including AD and another eight familial or sporadic tauopathies. Acetylated tau was identified in all tauopathies except argyrophilic grain disease (AGD). AGD is an age-associated, common but atypical 4R tauopathy, not always associated with clinical progression. Pathologically, AGD is characterized by neuropil grains, pre-neurofibrillary tangles, and oligodendroglial coiled bodies, all recognized by phospho-tau antibodies. The lack of acetylated tau in these inclusions suggests that AGD represents a distinctive tauopathy. Our data converge with previous findings to raise the hypothesis that AGD could play a protective role against the spread of AD-related tau pathology. Tau acetylation as a key modification for the propagation tau toxicity deserves further investigation. 相似文献

AbstractAn electronic circuit for controlled electrical stimulation of the human brain has been designed to optimize safety in charge transfer from electrodes to brain and to eliminate the likelihood of unwanted currents from the neurostimulator resulting from component failure. The circuit schematics feature the following designs: (1) a highly accurate and versatile rate generator 0.5 p.p.s. to 99 in increments of 0.5 p.p.s., (2) symmetrically-biphasic lead and lag pulses of 100 μsec duration, (3) photo-isolated driver amplifiers with accurate waveform, reproduction, (4) true biphasic passive-current regulators driven by an isolated battery supply voltage for switch-selectable currents of 0.25 to 5 ma or variable current regulation, (5) accurate current and voltage waveform monitors that isolate the stimulating electrodes from the monitors, and (6) capacity-coupled outputs to guarantee no net D.C. component at the end of each biphasic pulse. Relay-switching circuits are also shown that allow sequential stimulation and recording from one or several electrodes. This neurostimulator has been in use for over two years without evidence of electrolytic damage at identifiable electrode tips. The utility of simultaneous stimulation of several different electrodes at safe charge levels is described. 相似文献

Alien limb phenomenon refers to involuntary motor activity of a limb in conjunction with the feeling of estrangement from that limb. Alien limb serves as a diagnostic feature of corticobasal syndrome. Our objective was to determine the differential diagnoses of alien limb and to determine the features in a large group of patients with the alien limb with different underlying etiologies. We searched the Mayo Clinic Medical Records Linkage system to identify patients with the diagnosis of alien limb seen between January 1, 1996, and July 11, 2011. One hundred and fifty patients with alien limb were identified. Twenty-two were followed in the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. Etiologies of alien limb included corticobasal syndrome (n = 108), stroke (n = 14), Creutzfeldt Jakob disease (n = 9), hereditary diffuse leukoencephalopathy with spheroids (n = 5), tumor (n = 4), progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy(n = 2), demyelinating disease (n = 2), progressive dementia not otherwise specified (n = 2), posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (n = 1), corpus callosotomy (n = 1), intracerebral hemorrhage (n = 1) and thalamic dementia (n = 1). Ten of 14 cerebrovascular cases were right hemisphere in origin. All cases involved the parietal lobe. Of the 44 patients with corticobasal syndrome from the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center cohort, 22 had alien limb, and 73 % had the alien limb affecting the left extremities. Left sided corticobasal syndrome was significantly associated with the presence of alien limb (p = 0.004). These findings support the notion that the alien limb phenomenon is partially related to damage underlying the parietal cortex, especially right parietal, disconnecting it from other cortical areas. 相似文献
