Large volume injection and infiltration system

Summary A system which can be used for injection or infiltration of large volumes of fluid is described. This consists of a syringe which fills automatically from a reservoir through an inlet/outlet valve.     

Proteinuria in fighter pilots after high +Gz exposure

Exposure to high gravitational forces acting along the body axis towards the feet (+Gz) causes considerable strain on several organ systems, including the kidneys. During +Gz tolerance studies without anti-G suits, significant amounts of protein and hyaline casts were found in 17 of 20 fighter pilots after centrifugation. The G load alternated between 3.5 and 5.5 G. Mean time in the centrifuge was 15 min. For comparison we examined another group of 19 fighter pilots after air combat maneuver training with anti-G suits. None showed proteinuria. The proteinuria most likely indicates a severely depressed renal blood flow during centrifugation.     

The effect of liquid silicone on the corneal endothelium in rabbits

Specular microscopic and histopathologic findings in the corneal endothelium were compared after the injection of liquid silicone into the anterior chamber of both eyes in 15 rabbits. The findings demonstrated serious damage to the endothelium in the area of contact of liquid silicone with the posterior surface of the cornea and disclosed some problems in the interpretation of specular microscopic findings. An abnormal endothelial mosaic can be probably found even in a zone of preserved intercellular borders or in a zone with a relief of the bases of extinct endothelial cells.
