Immunoglobulin specificity of low grade B cell gastrointestinal lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) type.

The specificity of the tumor cell immunoglobulin in three cases of low grade B cell gastrointestinal mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma has been studied. Using anti-idiotypic antibodies to detect the reactivity of tumor immunoglobulin in tissue sections from the patients and other individuals, we observed specificity for normal tissue components in all three cases studied. Reactivity in one case was with follicular dendritic cells, in the second case with a novel antigen on mucosal post capillary venules, and, in the third case, a broad pattern of reactivity was observed. This study suggests that autoimmunity may play a role in the pathogenesis of gastric lymphoma.     

Spontaneous external jugular vein pseudoaneurysm treated by thrombin injection: Case report and literature review

Although external jugular vein (EJV) aneurysms are infrequent, regardless of etiology, spontaneous pseudoaneurysms (PAs) are extremely rare and generally require surgery. We describe a case of spontaneous PA of the EJV, which was successfully treated by percutaneous thrombin injection.     

Bilateral multiple pulmonary arteriovenous malformations: endovascular treatment with the Amplatzer Vascular Plug

Pulmonary arteriovenous malformation (AVM) is a rare vascular malformation of the lung that carries a considerable risk of serious complications such as cerebral embolism, brain abscess, and pulmonary hemorrhage. Embolization with coils or detachable balloons is currently the preferred treatment. Paradoxical embolization of coils and balloons may occur, especially in patients with large feeding arteries. This report describes an initial experience with the use of the Amplatzer Vascular Plug used for endovascular treatment of bilateral multiple pulmonary AVMs in an adult patient.     

Acute type A aortic dissection in a patient with ventricular septal defect

We report the case of a 38-year-old man with a long-standing history of a small ventricular septal defect presented with chest pain. Electrocardiography revealed sinus rhythm, ST-segment elevation in leads V1–6. The chest X-ray showed mild cardiomegaly. He underwent cardiac catheterisation laboratory to primary coronary angioplasty. Coronary angiography showed normal coronary arteries. Aortic root angiography revealed type A aortic dissection. Transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography showed aortic dissection in ascending aorta and a perimembranous ventricular septal defect. Thoracoabdominal CT angiography confirmed the aortic dissection before the surgery.The patient underwent cardiac surgery immediately. The ventricular septal defect and aortic dissection were repaired successfully. The postoperative recovery was uneventful and he has thus far remained asymptomatic at 6 months' follow-up.
