Polyethylene tubes obturated flush at one end overfilled 2 mm. at the opposite end with unset Grossman's cement and gutta-percha were implanted in rat tibias. Microscopic evaluation of the specimens revealed that (1) the gutta-percha, Grossman's sealer, and polyethylene tubing are well tolerated by rat intraosseous tissue and (2) a canal overextended 2 mm. beyond the apex with Grossman's cement and gutta-percha produces an early mild to moderate inflammatory response which resolves by the end of 30 day's. The testicular scintigraphic findings of nine patients with surgically and pathologically proved torsion of the testis of over 24 hours duration are reviewed. In the delayed blood-pool images each showed the classical avascular twisted testicle with a variable peripheral rim of hyperemia. In the dynamic blood-flow phase, eight revealed a perceptible increase of vascular perfusion in the scrotal region on the affected side, in addition to the testicular radionuclide angiogram peculiarities previously described for missed testicular torsion. Objectives:Congenital heart defects (CHD) are the most prevalent congenital anomalies. This study aims to examine the association between maternal occupational exposures to organic and mineral dust, solvents, pesticides, and metal dust and fumes and CHD in the offspring, assessing several subgroups of CHD.Methods:For this case–control study, we examined 1174 cases with CHD from EUROCAT Northern Netherlands and 5602 controls without congenital anomalies from the Lifelines cohort study. Information on maternal jobs held early in pregnancy was collected via self-administered questionnaires, and job titles were linked to occupational exposures using a job exposure matrix.Results:An association was found between organic dust exposure and coarctation of aorta [adjusted odds ratio (ORadj) 1.90, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.01–3.59] and pulmonary (valve) stenosis in combination with ventricular septal defect (ORadj 2.68, 95% CI 1.07–6.73). Mineral dust exposure was associated with increased risk of coarctation of aorta (ORadj 2.94, 95% CI 1.21–7.13) and pulmonary valve stenosis (ORadj 1.99, 95% CI 1.10–3.62). Exposure to metal dust and fumes was infrequent but was associated with CHD in general (ORadj 2.40, 95% CI 1.09–5.30). Exposure to both mineral dust and metal dust and fumes was associated with septal defects (ORadj 3.23, 95% CI 1.14–9.11). Any maternal occupational exposure was associated with a lower risk of aortic stenosis (ORadj 0.32, 95% CI 0.11–0.94).Conclusions:Women should take preventive measures or avoid exposure to mineral and organic dust as well as metal dust and fumes early in pregnancy as this could possibly affect foetal heart development. 相似文献

俄罗斯不同气候地区不同功能水体中克雷伯菌属广泛分布。克雷伯菌属可见于遭受生物、化学污染的集中供水的地表水源,无防护的地下蓄水层,缺乏有效清洁、消毒系统的饮用水。研究表明,水体中的克雷伯菌属具有致病性和毒性,对现代药物和消毒剂(氯、紫外线)具有抗性,很容易穿透进入地下蓄水层。克雷伯菌属细菌有很强的致病性(粘附力、侵袭力、磷酸酯酶、卵磷脂酶、脱氧核糖核酸酶、溶血活性),含有致病性遗传标记cnf-1。克雷伯菌属(100 CFU/dm3)可引起急性肠道感染。在不检测总大肠菌群的情况下,检测水体尤其是饮用水中的克雷伯菌属,可以评估所用水的流行病学危险。 相似文献

The 13th edition of the standards of the American Association of Blood Banks specified storage at 1 to 6 degrees C for cryoprecipitated anti-hemophilic factor (Cryo) administered up to 6 hours after thawing if the Cryo is used for factor VIII (FVIII) content (Standard J4.210). Previous editions specified room-temperature (RT) storage for up to 6 hours. Currently, the temperature specification has been deleted. There are few data addressing the optimal storage temperature and maximum storage time for FVIII and fibrinogen in thawed Cryo. Thirty bags of Cryo were assayed for FVIII and fibrinogen. Each bag was divided into two aliquots; one was stored at RT and the other at 1 to 6 degrees C. Assays were performed immediately after thawing (Base) and 6 and 24 hours after thawing, respectively. All samples were filtered through 200-mu blood component infusion sets before assay. Three hundred analyses were performed, 150 each for FVIII and fibrinogen by conventional clotting technique. Data were analyzed by using a paired t test. Cryo stored at 1 to 6 degrees C for 6 and 24 hours showed an FVIII loss of 35 percent (p less than 0.0001) and 63 percent (p less than 0.0001), respectively. Cryo stored at RT for 6 and 24 hours had an FVIII loss of 8 percent (p greater than 0.05) and 20 percent (p less than 0.0001). Cryo stored at 1 to 6 degrees C for 6 and 24 hours had a fibrinogen loss of 20 percent (p less than 0.0001) and 43 percent (p less than 0.0001). Cryo stored at RT for 6 hours had no fibrinogen loss and a 2 percent loss at 24 hours (p greater than 0.05). These preliminary data show a significant loss of FVIII and fibrinogen activity in Cryo stored at 1 to 6 degrees C and filtered before assay. Automotive seats are tested for compliance with federal motor vehicle safety standards (FMVSS) to assure safety during impact. Many wheelchair users rely upon their wheelchairs to serve as vehicle seats. However, the crashworthiness of these wheelchairs during impact is often unknown. This study evaluated the crashworthiness of five combinations of wheelchair back support surfaces and attachment hardware using a static test procedure simulating crash loading conditions. The crashworthiness was tested by applying a simulated rearward load to each seat-back system. The magnitude of the applied load was established through computer simulation and biodynamic calculations. None of the five tested wheelchair back supports withstood the simulated crash loads.
