Blood donor specimens from South-west Scotland were analysed for the following polymorphisms: ABO, Rhesus (D), Haptoglobin, Transferrin, Immunoglobulin (GM), RBC acid phophatase, RBC phosphoglucomutase and RBC adenylate kinase.Genetic differences exist between the regions in S.W. Scotland and between S.W. Scotland and other Irish and Irish Sea regions. This variability is detailed and discussed. The results are mapped by converting the data into distance values and by using a non-metrical scaling technique. Overall the present S.W. Scotland data are similar to Cumbrian and Manx results and dissimilar to the Irish data. 相似文献

SAPHO syndrome (synovitis, acne, pustulosis, hyperostosis, and osteitis) is a rare autoimmune disease which, due to its clinical presentation and symptoms, is often misdiagnosed and unrecognized. Its main features are prominent inflammatory cutaneous and articular manifestations. Treatments with immunosuppressive drugs have been used for the management of SAPHO with variable results. To date, the use of anti-TNF-α agents has proved to be an effective alternative to conventional treatment for unresponsive or refractory SAPHO cases. TNF-α is a pro-inflammatory cytokine and pivotal regulator of other cytokines, including IL-1 β, IL-6, and IL-8, involved in inflammation, acute-phase response induction, and chemotaxis. IL-1 inhibition strategies with anakinra have shown efficacy as first and second lines of treatment. In this review, we will describe the main characteristics of biological drugs currently used for SAPHO syndrome. We also describe some of the promising therapeutic effects of ustekinumab, an antibody against the p40 subunit of IL-12 and IL-23, after failure of multiple drugs including anti-TNF-α and anakinra. We discuss the use and impact of the new anti-IL-1 antagonists involved in the IL-17 blockade, in particular for the most difficult-to-treat SAPHO cases. 相似文献

Perception and behavior are strongly influenced by the verbal information conveyed by other individuals (e.g., verbal suggestion) and by learning (e.g., conditioning). This influence is well represented by the placebo and nocebo effects, in which positive verbal suggestion associated with positive conditioning induces beneficial outcomes (placebo effect), while the opposite is true for the negative counterpart (nocebo effect). It is still unclear whether verbal suggestion and conditioning exert distinctive roles in influencing perception, behavior and motor system activity when they occur in opposite directions. To this purpose, fifty‐three healthy volunteers were assigned to four groups characterized by either congruent or incongruent verbal suggestion and conditioning. Participants were asked to perform a force motor task by pressing a piston as strongly as possible. Transcranial magnetic stimulation over the primary motor cortex was used to record motor evoked potentials (MEP) and cortical silent period (CSP) from the muscle involved in the task. We found that negative verbal suggestion counteracted positive conditioning and induced sense of weakness, effort, and force decrements. MEP amplitude was stable, whereas the CSP duration shortened in all the groups throughout the procedure, indicating the involvement of cortical inhibitory circuits, independently of the type of verbal suggestion or conditioning. Our findings highlight a prevalent role of verbal suggestion over conditioning in determining a worsening (nocebo effect) but not an improvement (placebo effect) of motor performance. These results suggest that words associated with treatments should be chosen carefully to avoid negative outcomes, especially in sports and clinical settings. 相似文献

Diffuse correlation spectroscopy (DCS) can non-invasively and continuously asses regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) at the cot-side by measuring a blood flow index (BFI) in non-traditional units of cm2/s. We have validated DCS against positron emission tomography using 15O-labeled water (15O-water PET) in a piglet model allowing us to derive a conversion formula for BFI to rCBF in conventional units (ml/100g/min). Neonatal piglets were continuously monitored by the BabyLux device integrating DCS and time resolved near infrared spectroscopy (TRS) while acquiring 15O-water PET scans at baseline, after injection of acetazolamide and during induced hypoxic episodes. BFI by DCS was highly correlated with rCBF (R = 0.94, p < 0.001) by PET. A scaling factor of 0.89 (limits of agreement for individual measurement: 0.56, 1.39)×109× (ml/100g/min)/(cm2/s) was used to derive baseline rCBF from baseline BFI measurements of another group of piglets and of healthy newborn infants showing an agreement with expected values. These results pave the way towards non-invasive, cot-side absolute CBF measurements by DCS on neonates. 相似文献
