The present investigation demonstrates renewable cardanol-based polyol for the formulation of nanocomposite polyurethane (PU) coatings. The functional and structural features of cardanol polyol and nanoparticles were studied using FT-IR and 1H NMR spectroscopic techniques. The magnetic hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (MHAPs) were dispersed 1–5% in PU formulations to develop nanocomposite anticorrosive coatings. An increase in the strength of MHAP increased the anticorrosive performance as examined by immersion and electrochemical methods. The nanocomposite PU coatings showed good coating properties, viz., gloss, pencil hardness, flexibility, cross-cut adhesion, and chemical resistance. Additionally, the coatings were also studied for surface morphology, wetting, and thermal properties by scanning electron microscope (SEM), contact angle, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), respectively. The hydrophobic nature of PU coatings increased by the addition of MHAP, and an optimum result (105°) was observed in 3% loading. BACKGROUND: alterations in the polymorphonuclear leukocyte (PMNs) receptors, second messenger system and in their responses have been found associated with depression. Recently role of tetrahydrobiopterin and nitric oxide has also been reported in the depressive disorders. It was therefore considered worthwhile to investigate the NOS activity in the PMNs, which like neurons, also express neuronal NOS (nNOS), antioxidant enzyme levels [superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase and glutathione peroxidase (Gpx)] and beta-adrenergic receptors in the patients of depression. METHODS: patients were diagnosed according to the DSM-IV and were medication free, while healthy age-matched controls were also included in the study to estimate nitrite content, beta-adrenergic receptors and antioxidant enzymes in the PMNs according to the standard methodologies. RESULTS: an analysis of 66 cases of depression and 114 controls revealed 73% decrease in nitrite content and 71% decrease in beta-adrenergic receptor binding in the patients as compared to the healthy controls. However, activities of SOD, catalase and Gpx were not significantly altered in the patients. CONCLUSION: the results of the present study for the first time indicate alterations the NOS activity in PMNs obtained form the patients of affective disorders. 相似文献

Otofaciocervical syndrome (OTFCS) is described as a single gene disorder of both autosomal dominant and autosomal recessive inheritance. The major clinical features of OTFCS include ear malformations (external/middle/inner ear), facial dysmorphism, shoulder girdle abnormalities, vertebral anomalies, and mild intellectual disability. The autosomal recessive form of OTFCS syndrome (OTFCS2) has been recently reported to be caused due to homozygous mutations in PAX1 gene. Comparison of ultrasonographic findings in spontaneous abortions with normal and abnormal karyotypes 总被引:2,自引:2,他引:2
To determine whether ultrasonographic findings can predict the karyotype of
spontaneous abortions, 137 pregnancies (54 spontaneous, 83 assisted
ovulatory cycles) that subsequently aborted and had chromosome analysis
performed on the products of conception were studied ultrasonographically.
Transvaginal ultrasound was performed using an Acuson 128XP/10 with 7.5 MHz
probe. The numbers of empty gestational sacs, small and normal for
gestational size, embryonic poles and embryos with documented cardiac
activity were calculated. The frequency of each of these findings in
pregnancies with normal and abnormal karyotypes was compared. Of the 137
spontaneous abortions, 51 had normal chromosome analyses and 86 had
abnormal karyotypes (68 aneuploidies and 18 polyploidies). Ultrasonographic
findings in the 51 karyotypically normal pregnancies included 16 (31%) with
empty gestational sacs, and 35 (69%) with embryonic poles, of which 24
(69%) were at least 1 week smaller than expected for gestational age and 11
(31%) were the expected size. Embryonic cardiac activity was documented in
22 (63%) of the 35 embryonic poles. Amongst 86 pregnancies with abnormal
karyotypes, similar frequencies of ultrasound findings were found: 23 (27%)
with empty gestational sacs, 42 (67%) with embryonic poles smaller than
expected for gestational age, and 50 (79%) embryos lost after documentation
of embryonic cardiac activity. No differences in the frequency of
ultrasonographic findings of empty gestational sacs, small embryonic pole
and embryonic cardiac activity were observed between karyotypically normal
and abnormal spontaneous abortions. Ultrasonographic findings cannot
predict the karyotype of spontaneous abortions.

The production of accurate and culturally relevant translations of patient reported outcome (PRO) measures is essential for the success of international clinical trials. Although there are many reports in publication regarding the translation of PRO measures, the techniques used to produce single translations for use in multiple countries (global translations) are not well documented. This article addresses this apparent lack of documentation and presents the methodology used to create global translations of the Chronic Liver Disease Questionnaire—Hepatitis C Virus (CLDQ-HCV). The challenges of creating a translation for use in multiple countries are discussed, and the criteria for a global translation project explained. Based on a thorough translation and linguistic validation methodology including a concept elaboration, multiple forward translations, two back translations, reviews by in-country clinicians and the instrument developer, pilot testing in each target country and multiple sets of proofreading, the key concept of the global translation methodology is consistent international harmonization, achieved through the involvement of linguists from each target country at every stage of the process. This methodology enabled the successful resolution of the translation issues encountered, and resulted in consistent translations of the CLDQ-HCV that were linguistically and culturally appropriate for all target countries. 相似文献

Natural forms of stimulation were used to compare the spontaneous and evoked activity of dorsal horn neurons in three groups of rats: controls with no surgical lesion, rats with transection of the sciatic nerve and rats with transection of the dorsal roots at the same segmental level. In control rats, cells encountered in the dorsal horn were classified according to their peripheral field as tactile specific, convergent tactile and nociceptive, nociceptive, or movement driven. In 20 control animals, only 20% of the 140 cells with a peripheral field were spontaneously active. After sciatic nerve transection made on the side of recording a few days previously (18 rats), all of the 141 cells studied showed spontaneous activity, only 69 of them having a peripheral field. After dorsal root transections a few days previously (nine rats), 25 spontaneously active cells were found in the dorsal horn ipsilateral to the section, none with a peripheral field. Spontaneous activities of cells without a peripheral field were separated into three types as a function of bursting pattern, which were similar following both types of transection. The spontaneous activity shown by dorsal horn cells without peripheral fields following dorsal root transection precludes attribution of spontaneous spiking in such cells to abnormal input from the periphery, and shows that abnormal activity can develop in deafferented dorsal horn cells themselves. A possible role played by this spontaneous activity in deafferentation pain is considered. 相似文献
