Untersuchungen über die Frustrationstoleranz von jugendlichen und erwachsenen Patienten mit LKG-Spalten

Zusammenfassung Aufgrund der Untersuchung von 130 Patienten mit Lippen-Kiefer-Gaumen-Spalten mit dem Rosenzweig Picture-Frustration-Test lassen sich folgende Tendenzen feststellen: 1. Spaltpatienten haben eine geringere Frustrationstoleranz, sie scheinen weniger in der Lage zu sein, sich mit Gelassenheit über Konfliktsituationen hinwegzusetzen. Sie versuchen, Auseinandersetzungen auszuweichen. 2. Weibliche Spaltpatienten haben mehr Schwierigkeiten als männliche, sich durchzusetzen. 3. Jüngere Patienten zeigen mehr Schuldgefühle und Autoaggression. 4. Eine Patientengruppe mit schlechterer Primärversorgung zeigte insgesamt stärkere Normabweichungen als die anderen Patientengruppen.

Summary Based on examination of 130 cases of cleft lip and palate using the Rosenzweig Picture-Frustration-Test, the following tendencies could be demonstrated: 1. Cleft palate patients are less tolerant to frustration. They seem less able to cope with stressful interpersonal relations and try to avoid arguments. 2. Female cleft-palate patients have more difficulties to assert themselves than male cleft-palate patients. 3. Younger patients exhibit stronger guilt-feelings and autoaggressive tendencies than older age groups. 4. Behaviour of patients, who received less primary care, showed a stronger deviation from the normal behavioural pattern as compared to other groups of patients.

Résumé Sur la base d'une enquête effectuée sur 130 patients atteints d'une division labio-maxillo-palatine, on a pu constater les faits suivants: 1. Les patients atteints de cette malformation paraissent moins capables de se comporter avec calme dans une situation conflictuelle. Ils essaient d'éviter les disputes. 2. Les femmes ont plus de difficultés que les hommes à s'intégrer dans leur milieu. 3. Les patients plus jeunes présentent plus de sentiments de culpabilité et d'auto-agressivité. 4. Un groupe de patients dont les premiers soins ont été négligés, se comportent de manière encore plus négative que d'autres groupes de patients.

     

Über den morphogenetischen Einfluß der Kaumuskulatur-tierexperimentelle Untersuchungen

Zusammenfassung Es wird über die Ergebnisse einer einseitigen experimentellen Transposition des M. masseter und des M. pterygoideus medialis bei 8 jungen Kaninchen und einer einseitigen Kürzung der genannten Muskeln bei 9 jungen Kaninchen berichtet. In beiden Versuchsgruppen wurde bei einem Teil der Versuchstiere auf der Gegenseite eine Kontrolloperation-Ablösung und Reposition der Muskeln-durchgeführt. Darüber hinaus stand eine Kontrollgruppe von 8 gleichaltrigen Tieren zur Verfügung.Sowohl nach der Transposition des Ansatzes der beiden großen Kaumuskeln an eine Stelle, die dem Muskelursprung näher liegt, als auch nach Kürzung der Muskeln wird ein Wachstumsdefizit im Bereich des Kieferwinkels festgestellt. Dieselbe lokale Veränderung wird auch durch die Kontrolloperation bewirkt. Auswirkungen der operativen Eingriffe auf den Gebiß-und Schädelaufbau sind in nennenswertem Umfang nicht nachweisbar.

Summary On eight young rabbits an unilateral experimental transposition of the attachment of masseter and internal pterygoid muscle was performed. In a second group with nine young rabbits these muscles were shortened surgically. Control operation on the other side was carried out in some animals of both groups. Eight rabbits with the same age served as a control group.The most important result was growth deficiency in the angular region not only as an effect of the experimental operations but also observed after control operation. Changes in the occlusal and facial pattern were not produced.

An experimental study of the esthetic effect of facial profiles

In this study good-looking male and female as well as ugly facial profiles were shaped by 104 lay persons using an especially constructed device according to specific instructions. These profiles were photographed and subsequently evaluated using a series of parameters from soft tissue profile analyses. Although some significant mean value differences were found between the good-looking and ugly profile variants, they were not substantial. In contrast, markedly significant differences were revealed between the variances of all variables. In some instances the variance of the ugly profiles was more than 3 to 4 times higher than that of the good-looking profiles. These findings were convicingly confirmed when statistical distribution of the data was established and compared. This implies that perception of beauty is associated with regularity of facial features and is conveyed by measurement values which are located close to the mean. Ugliness is associated with extreme deviations from the latter in either direction. Apart from the facial proportions, the degree of convexity or concavity of facial profile and their sequence seem to be important for the esthetic effects. Male profiles in contrast to female profiles exhibited more conspicuous facial features such as pronounced convexity and concavity.     

Untersuchung über den Zusammenhang zwischen verschiedenen Indikatoren des Wachstumstyps

Zusammenfassung In der vorliegenden Untersuchung werden elf Variable aus dem Fernröntgenseitenbild, die als Indikatoren des Wachstumstyps gelten oder damit in Beziehung stehen können, gemessen und zusammen mit einem errechneten Kombinationsmaß miteinander korreliert. Die Zusammenhänge werden interpretiert und die Maße mit dem Begriff Wachstumstyp in Beziehung gesetzt.

Summary In this study eleven variables were measured. These could be considered as indicators of the growth type or related to growth type. Together with a calculated combination measurement these variables have been correlated with one another. The correlations were interpreted and related to the type of growth.

     

Morphologische Ergebnisse zur Anwendbarkeit eines gepulsten Kryptonfluorid-Excimerlasers im Rahmen der Schmelzkonditionierung

Zusammenfassung Trotz vieler Fortschritte auf dem Gebiet der Säure-Ätz-Technik sind wesentliche Probleme bisher nicht gelöst worden. Die Hauptaspekte dieses Problemkreises sind das nicht vorhersagbare Ätzmuster, die unkontrollierbare Langzeittiefenwirkung sowie die Entstehung von Schmelzausrissen aufgrund einer nicht definierbaren Bruchfläche bei Bracketabnahme. Ziel der vorliegenden Studie ist es, morphologische Ergebnisse der Schmelzkonditionierung bei Verwendung eines gepulsten Kryptonfluorid-Excimerlasers (248 nm) vorzustellen. Die rasterelektronenmikroskopische Untersuchung zeigte ein dem peripheren Säure-Ätz-Tup ähnelndes Oberflächenrelief. Zeichen einer Hitzeentwicklung wurden nicht gefunden. Die Anforderungen an ein modernes Lasersystem, das zu einer möglichen Alternative der konventionellen Säure-Ätz-Technik werden könnte, werden diskutiert.

Morphological effects produced by a krypton fluoride excimer laser used for enamel conditioning

Summary Although there have been many advances in the field of acid etching, major problems still present. For the most part, these are the unpredictability of the effects of etching, the lack of control of the depth of etching over the long term, and the development of enamel fractures occurring on debonding. The aim of this study was to investigate the morphological effects of enamel conditioning using a pulsed krypton fluoride excimer laser (wavelength 248 nm). Scanning electron microscopic examination revealed a surface similar to that produced by peripheral etching; no signs of thermal damage were to be seen. The requirements that have to be met by a modern laser considered as a possible alternative to conventional acid etching, are discussed.

     

Predicting patient compliance in orthodontic treatment

This article reviews the current knowledge regarding prediction of patientcompliance during orthodontic treatment. Relevant literature dealing with this and other related aspects of patient compliance is discussed, and an attempt is made to structure and summarize available information. The multifacetted nature of this issue is emphasized, existing controversies highlighted, and where appropriate, practical suggestions are made.
