Expression of Fas, Bcl-2 and p53 molecules in glomerulonephritis and their correlations with clinical and laboratory findings 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
BACKGROUND AND AIM: Apoptosis plays a crucial role in glomerulonephritis (GN) as a regulatory mechanism and is controlled by various molecules including Fas antigen, Bcl-2 and p53 oncoproteins. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the correlation between the expression of these molecules and clinical and laboratory data in different types of GN. RESULTS: The expression of Fas antigen, Bcl-2 and p53 protein in five normal human kidney specimens and 55 tissues from patients with several types of GN were examined by immunohistochemistry and correlated with clinical and laboratory findings. The number of Fas-positive intraglomerular cells was significantly increased in proliferative GN when compared with non-proliferative cases. Numbers of Bcl-2- and p53-positive cells in proliferative GN were not different from the non-proliferative cases and there was no correlation between the changes in Fas, Bcl-2 and p53 themselves. Significant correlation of expression of these molecules with clinical and laboratory findings was not found, except between p53 and blood urea nitrogen levels. CONCLUSION: Apoptosis is a complex molecular process and the results of the present study should be supported with other methods to understand whether apoptosis contributes to progression or resolution of GN. Increased glomerular expression of Fas, Bcl-2 and p53 molecules in all types of GN might contribute new therapeutic approaches by modulating the expression of these molecules. 相似文献

Mucociliary clearance is a key defence mechanism in human upper and lower airways. Although mucociliary activity is present in both ears of the patients, most cases of chronic otitis media are unilateral.In this study, we aim to evaluate the difference between nasal mucociliary activity of the affected and non-affected sides in patients with unilateral chronic otitis media. Both nasal transport times of 36 patients with unilateral chronic otitis media were compared statistically with each other and with the control group by independent samples t-test. The nasal mucociliary transport times of the nasal cavity at the same side as the affected ear and as the non-affected ear are significantly different, in the same patients. Our study shows that impaired or decreased nasal mucociliary activity may result in dysfunction of the eustachian tube and middle-ear ciliary activity, which plays an important role in the aetiopathogenesis of chronic otitis media. 相似文献

OBJECTIVE: In this study, auditory brainstem potentials (ABPs) were studied in children with protein energy malnutrition (PEM) to determine the effects of PEM on the developing brain in children. METHODS: A total of 31 children, aged 3-36 months with moderate/severe PEM and 25 healthy children, aged 3-48 months were included in the study. Nutritional status of the children was assessed by the Gomez classification. Recordings of ABPs were performed by using Nihon Kohden Neuropack 2 device. RESULTS: Of 31 children, 22 (71%) had severe malnutrition, 9 (29%) had moderate malnutrition. Additionally, 8 (26%) and 9 (29%) children had iron deficiency anemia and hypoalbuminemi, respectively. There were significant differences in the mean latencies of the waves I-V on the right and left ears and in the mean interpeak latencies (IPLs) of the waves III-V and I-V on the right ear between the study and control groups (P<0.05). The mean IPLs of I-V on the left side were found to be longer in the moderate PEM group than those of severe PEM group (P<0.05). There was not any difference between the groups of PEM with low serum albumin and PEM with normal serum albumin. While the mean IPLs of I-III on the right side were found longer in the cases of PEM without iron deficiency anemia, the mean latency of wave I on the left side, and the mean IPLs of III-V on the right side were longer in the children with PEM plus iron deficiency anemia (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Our findings showed that children with moderate/severe PEM had ABPs abnormalities in different degrees, which reflect defects in myelination of auditory brainstem pathways in children with moderate/severe PEM. However, we found contradictory results between abnormalities in ABPs and degree of malnutrition and iron deficiency anemia. We think that more extensive studies should be performed to determine whether or not there was a relationship between these parameters. 相似文献

Neonatal lupus erythematosus (NLE) is a disease primarily characterized by cardiac and/or cutaneous involvement. Hepatic, hematological, neurological and pulmonary involvement are rare manifestations and normally considered as mild and transient complications. But recent studies have shown more frequent hepatic involvement in NLE. We report a two month-old male infant, born to a clinically asymptomatic mother, presenting with significant hepatic involvement and annular, erythematous plaques with hyperkeratotic borders at the eyebrow region and anterior surface of trunk. BACKGROUND: After surgery for ruptured anterior communicating artery (ACoA) aneurysm, several patients who have achieved a favorable neurological outcome yet have been observed to suffer from a poor cognitive outcome. The aim of this study was to explore the possible effects of temporary clip applications on frontal lobe functions in the patients with ruptured ACoA aneurysm. METHODS: Forty patients were chosen among a series of cases who underwent an early surgery (within 96 h) after ACoA aneurysm bleeding. All of them were in Hunt-Hess grade 1 or grade 2. Of the 40 patients, temporary clipping was used in 22 patients (group A), whereas it was not used in 18 patients (group B). These two groups were compared with 20 volunteers (group C) without neurologic or psychiatric disorders. RESULTS: The mean duration of temporary vessel occlusion for both A1 was 8.2 +/- 2.9 min (4-15) in group A. Neither clinical nor radiographic strokes were detected. An improvement in frontal lobe function occurred at long term in group B patients. Whereas, cognitive deficits were persisting at long-term follow-up in group A, especially in patients who had temporary clipping duration longer than 9 min. CONCLUSIONS: The results emphasize that the negative effects of temporary vessel occlusion on cognitive changes occur before ischemic damage. Thus, such negative effects of temporary clipping on cognitive functions should not be neglected by surgeons during surgery. 相似文献

Two patients with limited elbow motion due to tumoral calcinosis underwent resection of calcified masses around the elbow joints. This necessilated removal of the distal two thirds and three fourths of the biceps muscles. The resulting defects were reconstructed with homologous Achilles tendon grafts. A brachioradialis muscle rerouting procedure was used to restore active supination in five children with cerebral palsy and a pronation deformity. Following release and lengthening of the pronator quadratus and pronator teres muscles, respectively, the brachioradialis tendon was divided as a Z plasty and the distal part of the tendon was passed through the interosseous space in a dorsal to palmar direction, and then sutured to its proximal end. Patients with chronic renal failure are at increased risk for infections because of impaired cellular immunity. This study was designed to determine the prevalence of antibodies to Legionella pneumophila serogroups 1 to 6 and to evaluate the possible risk factors for Legionnaires' disease in hemodialysis patients. Serum samples to be screened for antibodies against L pneumophila and risk factor data were collected from 252 hemodialysis patients. The overall prevalence of L pneumophila antibodies in hemodialysis patients was found to be 5.16% There was no statistically significant difference between L pneumophila seropositivity and potential risk factors. Further studies are needed to determine possible risk factors for Legionnaires' disease in hemodialysis patients. 相似文献
