Abstract – This article reports a longitudinal follow‐up of a 15‐month‐old child with dental trauma resulting from an attack by a dog. The injury consisted of laceration of the facial tissues and loss of the upper central deciduous incisors, in addition to loss of bone tissue in the same area. A malformation of the crown of the right central permanent incisor and complete change of the shape of the left central permanent incisor were observed. The etiological factors of childhood injuries as well as the importance of dental emergency care are discussed and the 14‐year clinical and radiographic follow up of the case is presented.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to verify whether screw abutment lubrication can generate higher preload values compared to non-lubricated screws, a titanium abutment was screwed onto an implant analog and scanned with the Procera System to generate 20 zirconia abutments. MKIII Br?nemark implants were clamped to a precision torque device, and the abutments were distributed in dry and wet groups with 10 specimens each. In the wet groups, the inner threads of the implants were filled with artificial saliva. All abutments were fastened with a Torqtite screw under 32 Ncm. Ten detorque measurements were performed per group pushing the reverse button of the Torque controller soon after screw tightening with values registered. The mean detorque values were calculated and compared by a Student's t test (α=0.05). The wet condition presented significantly higher mean detorque than the dry condition (31.5 ± 1.2 versus 27.5 ± 1.5 Ncm, respectively; p=0.0000024). In conclusion, there was always a loss in the initial torque values when the removal torque was measured under both conditions. The wet condition presented higher mean torque than the dry condition. Better preload values were established in the wet group, suggesting that the abutment screw must be lubricated in saliva to avoid further loosening.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: This study evaluated five chemical disinfectants to compare their abilities to improve dental unit waterline quality and assess their effects, if any, on the biofilm layer. METHODS: Sixty new dental units, with a closed-circuit water system, were used to compare microbial levels in DUWLs treated with five antimicrobials: Listerine, Bio 2000, Rembrandt, Dentosept, and sodium fluoride to a control group of sterile distilled water alone over a six-week period. For all units, the waterlines were filled with solution, left overnight, and then flushed for 30 seconds with sterile distilled water the following morning prior to patient treatment. Waterlines were examined for biofilm buildup using scanning electron microscopy and colony-forming-unit counts. RESULTS: The sodium fluoride and the four chemical antimicrobials reduced the microbial count to 200 cfu/ml or less. Only samples taken from dental units receiving the control treatment (distilled water with no added antimicrobial) failed to meet ADA's stated goal. Examination of the SEMs revealed an apparent decrease in the biofilm mass but not elimination, despite repeated treatment with the four antimicrobial materials. CONCLUSIONS: Even in a closed-circuit water system, distilled water alone cannot reduce microbial contamination of dental treatment water from dental unit waterlines to the 200 cfu/ml ADA stated goal. However, water treated with Listerine mouthrinse, Rembrandt mouthrinse, Bio 2000, 0.5 percent sodium fluoride and Dentosept, did meet the microbial reduction goal. The biofilm apparently was reduced in volume, but not entirely eliminated. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The ADA goal of a maximum of 200 cfu/ml was achieved using any of five chemical antimicrobials and distilled water in a closed-water system. Despite the successful reduction in microbial contamination of the dental treatment water, the biofilm was not completely eliminated. Biofilm elimination and prevention would be needed through some other means.  相似文献

PURPOSE: The purpose of this in vivo study of primary teeth was to analyze the ultrastructure and microbiology of dentin layers affected by caries lesions before and after restorations with resin-modified glass ionomer. METHODS: Samples of carious dentin from primary teeth removed prior to restoration placement (baseline-0 day) were compared with samples taken after 30 and 60 days. Dentin from 8 primary molars was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and dentin from 22 primary molars was examined microbiologically to compare bacteria (total of viable counts, Streptococcus spp, Streptococcus mutans, Lactobacillus spp, and Actinomyces spp) before and after treatment (30 and 60 days). RESULTS: Baseline caries samples had enlarged dentinal tubules with bacteriol invasion. SEM samples after treatment suggest better tissue organization, with more compact collagen fibers arrangement and narrower dentinal tubules. The number of bacteria decreased in all samples at both 30 (98%) and 60 (96%) days, with all bacteria species showing similar trends. CONCLUSIONS: The minimal intervention approach is very effective to promote beneficial changes in the lesion environment and favorable conditions for the healing process in primary teeth.  相似文献

Introduction

This study compared the torsional resistance of two brands of rotary nickel-titanium (NiTi) instruments indicated for endodontic retreatment.

Methods

Mtwo retreatment instruments #15 and #25 (VDW, Munich, Germany) and ProTaper Universal retreatment instruments D2 and D3 (Maillefer/Dentsply, Ballaigues, Switzerland) were subjected to a torsional assay in clockwise rotation. The two parameters evaluated were maximum torque and angular deflection at failure. Fractured instruments had their fractured surfaces and helical shafts examined by scanning electron microscopy.

Results

The results indicated that the angular deflection at fracture decreased in the following order: Mtwo retreatment file #15 > Mtwo retreatment file #25 > ProTaper Universal retreatment file D2 > ProTaper Universal retreatment file D3. As for the maximum torque values, the results revealed the following descending order: ProTaper Universal file D2 > Mtwo retreatment file #25 > ProTaper Universal file D3 > Mtwo retreatment file #15. Scanning electron microscopic analysis revealed that plastic deformation occurred along the helical shaft of the fractured instruments. Fractured surfaces were of the ductile type.

Conclusions

The instruments tested showed different torsional behavior depending on the parameter evaluated. If one considers that high angular deflection values may serve as a safety factor, then the Mtwo retreatment instruments showed significantly better results.  相似文献

Oral Diseases (2011) 17 , 808–812 Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the expression of fatty acid synthase (FASN) in oral nevi and melanomas, comparing the results with correspondent cutaneous lesions. Materials and Methods: Expression of FASN was evaluated by immunohistochemistry in 51 oral melanocytic lesions, including 38 intramucosal nevi and 13 primary oral melanomas, in 10 cutaneous nevi and in 14 melanomas. Results: Fatty acid synthase was strongly expressed only in melanomas, either of the oral mucosa or cutaneous. On the other hand, most oral and cutaneous nevi were negative, with a few oral cases showing focal and weak expression. Conclusion: Fatty acid synthase is expressed in malignant melanocytes, and it can be a helpful marker to distinguish oral melanomas from oral melanocytic nevi.  相似文献
