We evaluated the performance of the CAPILLARYS 2 (Sebia, Norcross, GA) capillary electrophoresis system for detection and identification of monoclonal proteins in serum samples. We analyzed 104 serum specimens by Sebia Hydragel serum protein electrophoresis (agarose gel electrophoresis [AGE]/immunofixation electrophoresis [IFE]) and CAPILLARYS 2 capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE)/immunosubtraction. AGE and CZE had sensitivities of 90% and 81%, respectively, based on IFE as the "gold standard," and all bands detected were confirmed by IFE (100% specificity). AGE and CZE had an overall agreement of 91% on serum protein electrophoresis. In the population tested, IgG was detected in 29% of samples by IFE and 30% using immunosubtraction. Similarly IgA was detected in 9% of cases by IFE and 8% by immunosubtraction. IgM and light chains were detected in 6% and 3% of cases, respectively, by IFE, whereas CZE/immunosubtraction did not detect any IgM or light chains. In our hands, AGE and CZE had the same specificity for detection of monoclonal proteins; however, CZE/immunosubtraction seems to be less sensitive than IFE for the detection of IgM and, possibly, serum light chains. 相似文献

The media image of the nurse is a source of concern because of its impact on: recruitment into the profession; the decisions of policy makers who enact legislation that defines the scope and financing of nursing services; the use of nursing services by consumers; and the self-image of the nurse. This article reports on the results of a study of the image of nursing on the Internet utilizing content analysis methodology. A total of 144 Websites were content-analyzed in 2001 and 152 in 2004. Approximately 70% of the Internet sites showed nurses as intelligent and educated and 60% as respected, accountable, committed, competent, and trustworthy. Nurses were also shown as having specialized knowledge and skills in 70% (2001) and 62% (2004) of the Websites. Scientific/research-oriented, competent, sexually promiscuous, powerful, and creative/innovative increased from 2001-2004 while committed, attractive/well groomed, and authoritative images decreased. Doctoral-prepared nurses were evident in 19% of the Websites in 2001 and doubled in 2004. The results of this study suggest that there are important opportunities to use the Internet to improve the image of the nurse. 相似文献

Two gene-targeted immunoglobulin heavy chain transgenic mouse strains, TgH(KL25) and TgH(VI10), expressing neutralizing specificities for lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus and vesicular stomatitis virus, respectively, have been generated. Three days after lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus infection, TgH(KL25) mice showed a thymus-independent neutralizing IgM response followed by thymus-dependent (TD) IgG. In contrast, WT mice mounted only a TD IgG response around day 80. These observations indicated that not only structural properties of the virus but also immunological parameters such as the frequency of B cells were indicative for the induction of thymus-independent versus TD Ig responses. Na?ve vesicular stomatitis virusspecific Ig heavy chain transgenic mice displayed greatly elevated natural antibody titers. However, despite these high na?ve titers, de novo activation of na?ve CD4+ T and B cells was not blocked. Therefore, B cells giving rise to natural antibodies do not participate in virus-induced antibody responses. 相似文献
