OBJECTIVES: The aim of study was to estimate the probability rates for unfavorable pregnancy outcomes in carriers of reciprocal chromosomal translocations involving 13 chromosome (RCT-13q). MATERIAL AND METHODS: We collected total empirical data about 232 pregnancies of 56 carriers coming from 28 pedigrees. RCT classification was based on classic cytogenetic methods for interpretation of breakpoint position. The probability rates of particular type of pathology related to the total number of pregnancies after ascertainment correction have been calculated with the help of Stengel-Rutkowski and Stene method. RESULTS: The risk figures for unbalanced offspring after 2:2 disjunction and adjacent-1 segregation for the whole group of pedigrees were calculated as 5.2 +/- 1.7% (9/173)--medium risk, for maternal (MAT) and paternal (PAT) carriers were about 6.2 +/- 2.3% (7/173) and 4.8 +/- 3.3% (2/42) respectively. Considering different segment lengths of 13q, similar values for shorter and longer segments were obtained [4.3 +/- 1.9% (5/115) for 13q21-->qter and 7.0 +/- 3.3% (4/58) for 13q12-->qter]. The risk figures for miscarriages as 36.4 +/-3.6% (63/173) and for stillbirths/early death as 4.6 +/- 31.6% (8/173) were obtained. The risk figures for unbalanced offspring after 3:1 disjunction were calculated as 7.7 +/- 7.45 (9/13). Conclusions: 1. Risk figures for different pregnancy outcomes are differ among particular forms of pathology. 2. Probability rate for unbalanced progeny at birth was calculated as a medium risk and similar values for carriers of different segments of 13q were obtained. 3. Probability rate for miscarriages was high but risk for stillbirths/early deaths of newborn was low. 4. No differences in values of rate for particular forms of pathology were found for maternal and paternal carriers of RCT-13q. 相似文献

While Ayurvedic medicine has touted the cognitive enhancing effects of Bacopa monniera for centuries, there is a need for double-blind placebo-controlled investigations. One hundred and seven healthy participants were recruited for this double-blind placebo-controlled independent group design investigation. Sixty-two participants completed the study with 80% treatment compliance. Neuropsychological testing using the Cognitive Drug Research cognitive assessment system was conducted at baseline and after 90 days of treatment with a special extract of Bacopa monniera (2 x 150 mg KeenMind) or placebo. The Bacopa monniera product significantly improved performance on the 'Working Memory' factor, more specifically spatial working memory accuracy. The number of false-positives recorded in the Rapid visual information processing task was also reduced for the Bacopa monniera group following the treatment period. The current study provides support for the two other published studies reporting cognitive enhancing effects in healthy humans after a 90 day administration of the Bacopa monniera extract. Further studies are required to ascertain the effective dosage range, the time required to attain therapeutic levels and the effects over a longer term of administration. 相似文献

Apitherapy is a form of alternative therapy that relies on the use of bee products, i.e., honey, royal jelly, propolis, pollen, and bee venom (known as apitoxin), for the prevention and treatment of various diseases. Various in vitro and in vivo studies suggest that these products may be effective in the prophylaxis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). This mini-review of papers identified in various electronic databases describes new aspects of the bioactivity of certain bee products, viz. bee pollen, royal jelly, bee venom, propolis, and bee bread, as natural interesting products for the prevention and treatment of common CVDs. 相似文献

(1) Background: The aim of this study was to assess the concentrations of selected elements in female patients with cancer of the reproductive organs, taking into account the stage of treatment. (2) Methods: The study sample consisted of 51 patients with advanced endometrial cancer and ovarian cancer, undergoing chemotherapy. The median age of the studied patients with endometrial cancer was 66.0 years (IQR: from 60.75 to 70.25), and with ovarian cancer―60.0 years (IQR: from 49.0 to 64.0). Each of the qualified women, after consent to participate in the study, had her blood drawn several times (before surgery, the first course of chemotherapy, the third course of chemotherapy, and the sixth course of chemotherapy) in order to determine serum levels of macro- and micronutrients (Na, Mg, Ca, Zn, P, Cu, Fe, Cd, Ni, and Sr). (3) Results: In the study group of patients with cancer of the reproductive tract, the concentrations of iron (<0.001), magnesium (0.038), sodium (0.014), and nickel (0.037) varied significantly over the course of the study. The analysis showed that the interaction between the stage of chemotherapy and the type of cancer had an effect on the concentrations of magnesium and cadmium (p < 0.05). (4) Conclusions: In the studied group of patients with ovarian and endometrial cancer, the applied chemotherapy significantly changed the concentrations of Fe, Na, and Ni, regardless of the type of tumor. Changes in Mg and Cd concentrations resulted from the interaction between the stage of chemotherapy and the type of cancer. The results of serum concentrations of selected elements in women with cancer of the reproductive organs may help understand the physiological changes resulting from the applied chemotherapy. 相似文献

Wound healing and skin tissue regeneration remain the most critical challenges faced by medical professionals. Titanium(IV) oxide-based materials were proposed as components of pharmaceutical formulations for the treatment of difficult-to-heal wounds and unsightly scarring. A gallic acid-functionalized TiO2 nanomaterial (TiO2-GA) was obtained using the self-assembly technique and characterized using the following methods: scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA), X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), infrared spectroscopy (IR), Raman spectroscopy and thermogravimetry (TG). Additionally, physicochemical and biological tests (DPPH assay, Microtox® acute toxicity test, MTT assay) were performed to assess antioxidant properties as well as to determine the cytotoxicity of the novel material against eukaryotic (MRC-5 pd19 fibroblasts) and prokaryotic (Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Candida albicans, Aliivibrio fischeri) cells. To determine the photocytotoxicity of the material, specific tests were carried out with and without exposure to visible light lamps (425 nm). Following the results, the TiO2-GA material could be considered an additive to dressings and rinsing suspensions for the treatment of difficult-to-heal wounds that are at risk of bacterial infections. 相似文献

This work proposes new carbon materials for intermediate layers in solid-contact electrodes sensitive for potassium ions. The group of tested materials includes electrospun carbon nanofibers, electrospun carbon nanofibers with incorporated cobalt nanoparticles and hierarchical nanocomposites composed of carbon nanotubes deposited on nanofibers with different metal nanoparticles (cobalt or nickel) and nanotube density (high or low). Materials were characterized using scanning electron microscopy and contact angle microscopy. Electrical parameters of ready-to-use electrodes were characterized using chronopotentiometry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The best results were obtained for potassium electrodes with carbon nanofibers with nickel-cobalt nanoparticles and high density of nanotubes layer: the highest capacity value (330 µF), the lowest detection limit (10−6.3 M), the widest linear range (10−6–10−1) and the best reproducibility of normal potential (0.9 mV). On the other hand the best potential reversibility, the lowest potential drift (20 μV·h−1) in the long-term test and the best hydrophobicity (contact angle 168°) were obtained for electrode with carbon nanofibers with cobalt nanoparticles and high density of carbon nanotubes. The authors aimed to determine the effect of the time of hypotensive drug administration on the progress of degenerative changes within the optic nerve in patients with hypertension and glaucoma. Two groups were included in the study: group A comprised patients-dippers taking drugs in the mornings, and group B comprised patients-nondippers taking drugs both in the mornings and in the evenings. After 6 months, group B showed significant drops in nocturnal diastolic blood pressure (BP) (month 1=73.27 mm Hg vs month 6=67.50 mm Hg), nocturnal mean BP (89.34 vs 84.65 mm Hg), and minimum diastolic BP (50.74 vs 44.03 mm Hg). Group B also showed significant reductions in nocturnal ocular perfusion pressure (43.0 vs 39.73), retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (131.31 vs 113.12 μm), and flow in the eye vessels. Taking hypotensive drugs in the evening may significantly decrease blood flow in the eye arteries, cause degenerative changes within the optic nerves, and result in greater loss in the field of vision. 相似文献
