In this work, the effects of gamma-ray irradiation (up to 3 kGy) on the structural and electronic properties of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS), irradiated in air and vacuum environments are systematically investigated. Raman spectroscopy indicates that there is no significant change in structural conformation of PEDOT:PSS film after gamma-ray irradiation. However, the conductivity of the film decreases as a function of dose in both air and vacuum environments, which can be deduced as a result of defects created in the structure. Hall effect measurements showed higher carrier concentration when the samples are irradiated under vacuum in comparison to the air environment, whereas mobility decreases as a function of dose irrespective of the environment. Furthermore, the electron spin resonance spectra provided evidence of the evolution of polaron population after gamma-ray exposure of 3 kGy, due to the decrease in charge delocalization and molecular ordering of the molecules. This decrease in conductivity and mobility of the PEDOT:PSS films irradiated in air and vacuum environments can be mainly ascribed to the defects and radical formation after gamma-ray exposure, favoring chain scission or cross-linking of the polymers.Effects of gamma-ray irradiation (up to 3 kGy) on the structural and electronic properties of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS), irradiated in air and vacuum environments are systematically investigated. 相似文献

An educational session related to the Western Canadian Gastrointestinal Cancer Consensus Conference (WCGCCC) was held virtually on 14 October 2020. The WCGCCC is an interactive multidisciplinary conference attended by health care professionals from across Western Canada (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba), who are involved in the care of patients with gastrointestinal cancer. Surgical, medical, and radiation oncologists; pathologists, radiologists, and allied health care professionals participated in presentation and discussion sessions for the purpose of developing the recommendations presented here. Purpose:Patient safety errors can arise due to similarity in packaging of medications. We aimed to describe the clinical features of patients presenting with accidental application of joint pain liniments and gum lotion in the eye due to confusion arising from similarity in packaging.Methods:This was a retrospective case series with eight consecutive patients presenting from December 2020 to August 2021 with history of accidental application of joint pain liniments or gum lotion in the eye instead of eye drops. All patients underwent visual acuity assessment and slit-lamp examination with fluorescein staining of the cornea to look for corneal involvement and was reassessed till complete resolution.Results:Of the eight patients, three were males and five were females. Seven had accidentally applied joint pain liniment, while one had applied gum lotion into the eye. Five of them had corneal involvement ranging from punctate erosions to near-total epithelial defects. Two patients needed referral to a tertiary center and hospital admission. Treatment duration ranged from 2 days to 1 month. Two patients were lost to follow-upConclusion:This study highlights patient safety errors arising from confusion of medication due to similar labeling and packaging of different drugs. While there was no permanent morbidity, such confusions lead to needless discomfort and waste of time, money, and effort for the patient as well as the health-care system. 相似文献

Determining the optimal vaccine vial size in developing countries: a Monte Carlo simulation approach
Outreach immunization services, in which health workers immunize children in their own communities, are indispensable to improve vaccine coverage in rural areas of developing countries. One of the challenges faced by these services is how to reduce high levels of vaccine wastage. In particular, the open vial wastage (OVW) that result from the vaccine doses remaining in a vial after a time for safe use -since opening the vial- has elapsed. This wastage is highly dependent on the choice of vial size and the expected number of participants for which the outreach session is planned (i.e., session size). The use single-dose vials results in zero OVW, but it increases the vaccine purchase, transportation, and holding costs per dose as compared to those resulting from using larger vial sizes. The OVW also decreases when more people are immunized in a session. However, controlling the actual number of people that show to an outreach session in rural areas of developing countries highly depends on factors that are out of control of the immunization planners. This paper integrates a binary integer-programming model to a Monte Carlo simulation method to determine the choice of vial size and the optimal reordering point level to implement an (nQ, r, T) lot-sizing policy that provides the best tradeoff between procurement costs and wastage. 相似文献

Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma usually involves lymph nodes, but can involve extranodal sites. Oral lymphomas are relatively rare and often difficult to diagnose in a clinical setting. Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is the most common cause of end-stage renal disease worldwide. The pathophysiologic mechanisms of diabetic nephropathy are incompletely understood but include overproduction of various growth factors and cytokines. Upregulation of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a pathogenic event occurring in most forms of podocytopathy; however, the mechanisms that regulate this growth factor induction are not clearly identified. A2B receptors have been found to regulate VEGF expression under hypoxic environment in different tissues. One proposed hypothesis in mediating diabetic nephropathy is the modulation of VEGF-NO balance in renal tissue. We determined the role of adenosine A2B receptor in mediating VEGF overproduction and nitrite in diabetic nephropathy. The renal content of A2B receptors and VEGF was increased after 8 weeks of diabetes induction. The renal and plasma nitrite levels were also reduced in these animals. In vivo administration of A2B adenosine receptor antagonist (MRS1754) inhibited the renal over expression of VEGF and adverse renal function parameters. The antagonist administration also improved the kidney tissue nitrite levels. In conclusion, we demonstrated that VEGF induction via adenosine signaling might be the critical event in regulating VEGF-NO axis in diabetic nephropathy. 相似文献
