Minicolumns are thought to be the smallest cortical modules within the hierarchical organization of the isocortex. Several reports suggest alterations in minicolumnar morphometry may be involved in psychiatric disorders such as autism, dyslexia, and schizophrenia. Thus far anatomical studies of minicolumns have primarily relied on measurements of pyramidal cell arrays. This study expands on a recursive trace line segmentation method used to define morphometric measures for myelinated axon bundles. The results were compared against those of pyramidal cell arrays derived from immediately adjacent serial sections. Width estimates based on cell somas and myelinated axon bundles were highly correlated (r=0.9888). Histograms of signal intensity using the recursive trace line method produced expected features of myeloarchitectonics; that is, bundles of Meynert and intervening interradiary plexus. The close correspondence of derived values for myelinated axon bundles and pyramidal cell arrays suggests their participation and interaction within the same modular arrangement of the isocortex.  相似文献

When compared to the use of 12 hourly 200 μg vaginal misoprostol on its own, the addition of a single dose of 5 mg did not significantly increase the abortion or delivery rate in pregnancy termination at 13–29 weeks gestation. All patients were given intravenous syntocinon at 30 mU/min from the first dose of misoprostol onwards.  相似文献

Purpose  

The minimally invasive transpsoas approach can be employed to treat various spinal disorders, such as disc degeneration, deformity, and lateral disc herniation. With this technique, visualization is limited in comparison with the open procedure and the proximity of the lumbar plexus to the surgical pathway is one limitation of this technique. Precise knowledge of the regional anatomy of the lumbar plexus is required for safe passage through the psoas muscle. The primary objective of this study was to determine the anatomic position of the lumbar plexus branches and sympathetic chain in relation to the intervertebral disc and to define a safe working zone. The second objective was to compare our observations with previous anatomical studies concerning the transpsoas approach.  相似文献

This study aimed to explore the cardioprotective effect of new synthesized coumarin (E)‐4‐hydroxy‐N’‐(1‐(7‐hydroxy‐2‐oxo‐2H‐chromen‐3‐yl) ethylidene) benzohydrazide denoted (Hyd.Cou) against myocardial infarction disorders. Male Wistar rats were divided into four groups; Control, isoproterenol (ISO), ISO + Acenocoumarol (Ac) and ISO + Hyd.Cou. Results showed that the ISO group exhibited serious alteration in EGC pattern, significant heart hypertrophy (+33%), haemodynamic disturbance and increase in plasma rate of CK‐MB, LDH and troponin‐T by 44, 53, and 170%, respectively, as compared to Control. Moreover, isoproterenol induced a rise in plasma angiotensin‐converting enzyme activity (ACE) by 49%, dyslipidaemia, and increased thiobarbituric acid‐reactive substances (TBARS) by 117% associated with decrease in the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) by 46% and 58%, respectively in myocardium. Interestingly, the molecular docking calculation demonstrated strong interactions of Hyd.Cou with the receptors of the protein disulphide isomerase (PDI) which could highlight the antithrombotic effect. Moreover, Hyd.Cou improved plasma cardiac dysfunction biomarkers, mitigated the ventricle remodelling process and alleviated heart oxidative stress damage. Overall, Hyd.Cou prevented the heart from the remodelling process through inhibition of ACE activity and oxidative stress improvement.  相似文献

Chromogranin A (CgA) is a neuroendocrine secretory protein that is widely used as a marker for endocrine neoplasms but whose function is not completely understood. In mammals, it is thought that CgA is a precursor for biologically active peptides. Here, we describe the cloning of a complementary DNA encoding CgA from a nonmammalian vertebrate, the frog Rana ridibunda. Sequence analysis revealed that frog CgA exhibits only 40-44% amino acid sequence similarity with its mammalian homologues. The amino acid identity is confined to three regions (70-80% identity) of the protein that are flanked by conserved pairs of basic amino acid residues, suggesting that proteolytic processing at these cleavage sites may give rise to three biologically active peptides whose sequences have been highly preserved during evolution. Tissue distribution analysis by Northern blot and in situ hybridization revealed the widespread expression of frog CgA messenger RNA in the brain and in endocrine tissues, the highest concentration occurring in the distal lobe of the pituitary. Adaptation of frog skin color to a dark background caused a concomitant increase in CgA and POMC messenger RNA levels in the intermediate lobe of the pituitary. Taken together, these data indicate that CgA may function as a precursor to three highly conserved peptides that may exert regulatory functions in the neuroendocrine system.  相似文献
