Background: P-wave dispersion (Pd), corrected P-wave dispersion (Pdc), QT-wave dispersion (QTd), and corrected QT-wave dispersion (QTdc) parameters were not assessed in Turner Syndrome (TS) before. The aim of this study is to investigate the cardiac arrhythmogenic potential in patients with TS.
Methods: Thirty-one patients with TS and 30 healthy women were enrolled in the study. For this purpose 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) and 24-hour ambulatory ECG recordings were performed.
Results: Pd, Pdc, QTd, and QTdc were significantly higher in patients with TS. On 24-hour ambulatory ECG recording, the mean heart rate (HR) was higher, while the mean of all RR intervals between normal beats (MeanNN), the standard deviation of all the RR intervals (SDNN), the square root of the mean of the squared differences of two consecutive RR intervals (rMSSD), and the percentage of the beats with consecutive RR interval difference more than 50 milliseconds (pNN50) were lower in TS.
Conclusion: There were significant increases in Pd, Pdc, QTd, and QTdc in patients with TS and they may be features of the disease. The frequency of supraventricular arrhythmias was increased. There also was a significant deterioration of sympathetic and parasympathetic components of autonomic function as assessed by heart rate variability (HRV) in Turner patients. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: Reference intervals for serum creatinine remain relevant despite the current emphasis on the use of the estimated glomerular filtration rate for assessing renal function. Many studies on creatinine reference values have been published in the last 20 years. Using criteria derived from published IFCC documents, we sought to identify universally applicable reference intervals for creatinine via a systematic review of the literature. METHODS: Studies were selected for inclusion in the systematic review only if the following criteria were met: (a) reference individuals were selected using an "a priori" selection scheme, (b) preanalytical conditions were adequately described; (c) traceability of the produced results to the isotope dilution-mass spectrometry (IDMS) reference method was demonstrated experimentally, and (d) the collected data received adequate statistical treatment. RESULTS: Of 37 reports dealing specifically with serum creatinine reference values, only 1 report with pediatric data and 5 reports with adult data met these criteria. The primary reason for exclusion of most papers was an inadequate demonstration of measurement traceability. Based on the data of the selected studies, we have collated recommended reference intervals for white adults and children. CONCLUSION: Laboratories using methods producing traceable results to IDMS can apply the selected reference intervals for serum creatinine in evaluating white individuals. 相似文献

Infection with the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum induces osmolyte and anion channels in the host erythrocyte membrane involving ATP release and autocrine purinergic signaling.
P. falciparum-parasitized but not unstimulated uninfected erythrocytes released ATP in a 5-nitro-2-(3-phenylpropylamino)-benzoic acid (NPPB;
7 μM)-sensitive and serum album (SA; 0.5% w/v)-stimulated manner. Since Plasmodium infection of human erythrocytes induces SA-dependent outwardly (OR) and SA-independent inwardly rectifying (IR) anion conductances,
we tested whether the infection-induced OR channels directly generate an ATP release pathway. P. falciparum-parasitized erythrocytes were recorded in whole-cell mode with either Cl− or ATP as the only anion in the bath or pipette. In parasitized cells with predominant OR activity, replacement of bath NaCl
by Na–ATP (NMDG–Cl pipette solution) shifted the current reversal potential (V
rev) from −2 ± 1 to +51 ± 3 mV (n = 15). In cells with predominant IR activity, in contrast, the same maneuver induced a shift of V
rev to significantly larger (p ≤ 0.05, two-tailed t test) values (from −3 ± 1 to +66 ± 8 mV; n = 5) and an almost complete inhibition of outward current. The anion channel blocker NPPB reversibly decreased the ATP-generated
OR currents from 1.1 ± 0.1 nS to 0.2 ± 0.05 nS and further shifted V
rev to +87 ± 7 mV (n = 12). The NPPB-sensitive fraction of the OR reversed at +48 ± 4 mV suggesting a relative permeability of P
ATP/P

In recent times, there is widespread use of 2.45-GHz irradiation-emitting devices in industrial, medical, military and domestic application. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of 2.45-GHz electromagnetic radiation (EMR) on the oxidant and antioxidant status of skin and to examine the possible protective effects of β-glucans against the oxidative injury. Thirty-two male Wistar albino rats were randomly divided into four equal groups: control; sham exposed; EMR; and EMR + β-glucan. A 2.45-GHz EMR emitted device from the experimental exposure was applied to the EMR group and EMR + β-glucan group for 60 min daily, respectively, for 4 weeks. β-glucan was administered via gavage at a dose of 50 mg/kg/day before each exposure to radiation in the treatment group. The activities of antioxidant enzymes, superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and catalase (CAT), as well as the concentration of malondialdehyde (MDA) were measured in tissue homogenates of the skin. Exposure to 2.45-GHz EMR caused a significant increase in MDA levels and CAT activity, while the activities of SOD and GSH-Px decreased in skin tissues. Systemic β-glucan significantly reversed the elevation of MDA levels and the reduction of SOD activities. β-glucan treatment also slightly enhanced the activity of CAT and prevented the depletion of GSH-Px activity caused by EMR, but not statistically significantly. The present study demonstrated the role of oxidative mechanisms in EMR-induced skin tissue damages and that β-glucan could ameliorate oxidative skin injury via its antioxidant properties. 相似文献

This is a case report of reboxetine induced erectile dysfunction, seminal emission and ejaculation during defecation and micturition. A 44 year old male who had been suffering from depression without any sexual dysfunction was put on venlafaxine XR treatment. Due to delayed ejaculation and occasional episodes of absence of ejaculation he was switched to reboxetine. At the second week of treatment he reported erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation, and seminal emission and ejaculation during defecation and micturition occurred later at 8th week of treatment. After he was switched to sertraline 50 mg/day, his erectile dysfunction, premature and spontaneous ejaculation symptoms subsided in 2 weeks. Although reboxetine is reported to be free of sexual side effects, individual vulnerabilities to such unwanted effects should be considered, and sexual dysfunction should be assessed thoroughly during the treatment. 相似文献

Anthracotic pigmentation in the bronchial mucosa has been regarded as a bronchoscopic finding of pneumoconiosis or evidence of heavy atmospheric soot. Anthracotic pigmentation with bronchial narrowing or obliteration, surrounded by calcified or noncalcified lymph nodes is typical finding of anthracofibrosis. There is a potential relationship between bronchial anthracofibrosis and tuberculosis. Tuberculous lymphadenopathy of superior mediastinum presentation with hoarseness is very rare. The paper reports a case of tuberculous mediastinal lymphadenitis with anthracosis causing vocal cord paralysis. A 66-year-old woman was admitted to our clinic with the symptoms of dry cough, hoarseness, malaise, anorexia, night sweats and with the multiple mediastinal lymphadenopathy. Fiberoptic bronchoscopy revealed left vocal cord paralysis, bronchial mucosal inflammation and multiple anthracotic plaques. Bronchial lavage and mucosal biopsy were negative for malignancy and tuberculosis. The thoracotomy was performed and a mediastinal lymph node showing caseating granulomatous inflammation with anthracosis and parenchymal anthracosis were detected. The diagnosis of anthracosis and mediastinal tuberculous lymphadenitis was made and the patients put on antituberculous treatment. But she unfortunately died in the second month of the treatment because of the abdominal complication of gastric adenocarcinoma operation. 相似文献

Purpose
Combinations of trastuzumab with paclitaxel or capecitabine are effective therapies in human epidermal growth factor 2 (HER2)-positive metastatic breast cancer (MBC). This retrospective study evaluated the efficacy and toxicity of trastuzumab and paclitaxel plus capecitabine in the first-line therapy for patients with HER2-positive MBC.Methods
A total of 40 patients with HER2-positive MBC treated between January 2008 and January 2011 were evaluated retrospectively in 6 institutions. Three patients with performance score of 3 who died before response assessment were excluded from the study. The patients were given trastuzumab 8 mg/kg loading dose followed by then 6 mg/kg dose on day 1 and paclitaxel 175 mg/m2 on day 1 plus capecitabine 825 mg/m2 twice daily on days 1–14 every 3 weeks.Results
A total of 287 cycles of chemotherapy were administered with a median of 8 treatment cycles per patient (range 3–12). Median follow-up period was 24.7 months (range 4.7–51). There were 9 patients (24.3 %) with complete responses, 21 (56.8 %) with partial responses, 4 (10.8 %) with stable disease and 3 (8.1 %) with progressive disease resulting in an overall response rate (ORR) of 81.1 %. Median progression-free survival and overall survival were 14 and 38.4 months, respectively. Rates of grade 3 adverse events were neutropenia (n = 4, 10.8 %), cardiac dysfunction (n = 1, 2.7 %), hand-foot syndrome (n = 2, 5.4 %), nausea (n = 2, 5.4 %), vomiting (n = 2, 5.4 %), fatigue (n = 1, 2.7 %), diarrhea (n = 1, 2.7 %), neuropathy (n = 1, 2.7 %) and alopecia (n = 1, 2.7 %).Conclusions
Combination of trastuzumab and paclitaxel plus capecitabine is an effective and well-tolerated regimen in the first-line therapy for women with HER2-positive MBC. 相似文献690.
