Aortoarteritis presenting with hypoparathyroidism

Clinical manifestations of aortoarteritis (Takayasu's arteritis) are varied, depending on the involved segment of the aorta and its branches. A case of a young Indian woman with aortoarteritis presenting primarily with hypoparathyroidism is reported. Aortogram showed total occlusion of the arch arteries. To the best of our knowledge, the occurrence of hypoparathyroidism in aortoarteritis has not been reported. Possible mechanisms of such an involvement are discussed.     

Intrapericardial benign teratoma with unusual presentation

Benign teratoma, also referred as dermoid cyst, do occur in the mediastinum. However, their intrapericardial location has been reported very occasionally. This case of intrapericardial benign solid teratoma is being presented because of its rarity and its unusual presentation as a case of empyema, with features of cardiac compression and pericardial effusion.     

Pedicle streaking: A novel and simple aid in pedicle positioning in free tissue transfer

Introduction:The pedicle positioning in free tissue transfer is critical to its success. Long thin pedicles are especially prone to this complication where even a slight twist in the perforator can result in flap loss. Pedicles passing through the long tunnels are similarly at risk. Streaking the pedicle with methylene blue is a simple and safe method which increases the safety of free tissue transfer.Conclusion:This simple and novel method is very reliable for pedicle positioning avoiding any twist necessary for successful free tissue transfer.KEY WORDS: Free flaps, pedicle, perforator     

Prosthetic Rehabilitation Following Socket Reconstruction with Blair‐Brown Graft and Conformer Therapy for Management of Severe Post‐Enucleation Socket Syndrome – A Clinical Report

One of the most common tumors of the eye diagnosed in childhood is retinoblastoma, which mandates enucleation with adjunctive chemotherapy and radiotherapy to save the patient's life. The most common late enucleation complication is post‐enucleation socket syndrome (PESS), which poses a management dilemma for the prosthodontist and surgeon, along with being a major esthetic concern for the patient. The reconstruction of such sockets is complex. The purpose of this clinical report is to describe the rehabilitation of such a pediatric patient with severe PESS. The patient was successfully rehabilitated by presurgical conformer therapy, socket reconstruction surgery with non‐meshed intermediate split thickness skin graft (STSG)/Blair‐Brown graft, and postsurgical conformer stent. This was followed by fabrication of a custom ocular prosthesis, to achieve favorable functional, physical, and psychological effects.
