Radioprotective effects of a water-soluble extracts from cultured medium of Ganoderma lucidum (Rei-shi) mycelia (designed as MAK) and Agaricus blazei (Agaricus) against the shortening of survival time or the injury of crypt by X-irradiation were investigated in male B6C3F1 mice. MAK and Agaricus at three different doses were mixed into basal diet into biscuits at 5, 2.5 and 1.25% and administered from 1 week before irradiation. MAK (5% group) significantly prolonged animal survival as compared with basal diet group (control group) after 7 Gy of X-ray irradiation at a dose rate of 2 Gy min(-1). At doses of 8, 10 and 12 Gy X-irradiation at a dose rate of 4 Gy min(-1) MAK (5% group) significantly increased crypt survival as compared to other groups. These results suggest that MAK can act as a radioprotective agent. 相似文献

Monomers containing several octadecyl groups, e.g., 2-isopropenyl-4,6-bis(octadecylamino)-1,3,5-triazine ( 2 ), 2-dioctadecylamino-4-isopropenyl-6-octadecylamino-1,3,5-triazine ( 3 ) and 2,4-bis(dioctadecylamino)-6-isopropenly-1,3,5-triazine ( 4 ) were prepared by the alkylation reaction of 2,4-diamino-6-isopropenyl-1,3,5-triazine ( 1 ) with 1-bromooctadecane in the presence of sodium hydride. In the free-radical homopolymerization of these monomers, the polymer yield of 3 was lower than that of 2 due to a decrease in the ceiling temperature, and the polymerization of 4 did not proceed. Copolymerizations of these monomers with styrene or methyl methacrylate were carried out and the monomer reactivity ratios (r1 and r2) were determined. The monomer reactivity decreased with increasing the number of octadecyl groups in the monomers. Numerous epidemiological studies have pointed out a higher frequency of temporomandibular disorder (TMD) in women than in men, which indicates the involvement of a sex hormone, such as estrogen, in the pathogenesis of TMD. Although estrogen is known to play pivotal roles in osteoarthrosis or rheumatoid arthritis in systemic joints, there have been few reports about the role of estrogen in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). The effect of estrogen is generally mediated by the estrogen receptors (ERs) ER alpha (the predominant type) and ER beta. In this study we examined the expression of ER alpha protein and mRNA in the TMJ of adult male rats by immunocytochemistry and in situ hybridization histochemistry. Intense ER alpha immunoreactivity was localized in the synovial lining cells, stromal cells in the articular disc, and chondrocytes in the TMJ. These ER alpha-immunopositive synovial lining cells are characteristic of cytoplasmic processes identified with confocal and immunoelectron microscopy, which indicates that they are synovial type B cells. In situ hybridization histochemistry confirmed intense signals for ER alpha in the synovial lining cells and the sublining fibroblasts at mRNA levels. The nuclei of chondrocytes showed an intense immunoreaction for ER alpha in the maturative and hypertrophic layers of the articular cartilage. In addition to the nuclear localization of ER alpha, a weak immunoreaction appeared in the cytoplasm of some ER alpha-positive cells. These findings support the hypothesis that TMJ tissue-at least in the male rat-has the potential to be an estrogen target tissue. 相似文献

Pili of Vibrio cholerae non-O1 strain S7 were purified and characterized. The pili of S7 were morphologically, electrophoretically, and immunologically (as far as polyclonal antibody was used) indistinguishable from the 16-kilodalton pili of V. cholerae O1 strain 82P7. The purified pili and organisms had D-mannose- and L-fucose-resistant hemagglutinin. The hemagglutinating activity of the purified pili was inhibited by the Fab fraction of antipilus antibody, but the hemagglutinating activity of live organisms was not inhibited completely. The purified pili or Fab fraction of antipilus antibody did not inhibit the adhesion of V. cholerae non-O1 to rabbit intestines. Therefore, the pili were not regarded as a colonization factor of V. cholerae non-O1. A total of 148 V. cholerae non-O1 and O1 clinical isolates were screened for the presence of S7 pili by using an agglutination test with anti-S7 pilus serum; 12 of 49 V. cholerae non-O1 strains and 25 of 99 V. cholerae O1 strains were positive for agglutination. Hemolysins purified from non-O1 Vibrio cholerae (non-O1 hemolysin) and a Vibrio cholerae O1, biotype El Tor (El Tor hemolysin) were investigated for their homology. The hemolysins were isolated from the culture supernatant fluids by ammonium sulfate precipitation and gel filtration on Sephadex G-100 columns. The purified hemolysins gave single bands with an identical mobility on conventional polyacrylamide gel disc electrophoresis. The molecular weights of the non-O1 and El Tor hemolysins were estimated to be about 60,000 by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, and the amino acid compositions of the hemolysins were very similar. The specific activities of the hemolysins were identical, and both hemolysins were neutralized to the same extent with antisera against the homologous and heterologous hemolysins. Ouchterlony double immunodiffusion tests with both hemolysins and antihemolysin serum gave a common (fused) precipitin line. These data indicate that the non-O1 hemolysin is biologically, physicochemically, and immunologically indistinguishable from the El Tor hemolysin. 相似文献

The androgens testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) are essential for a variety of systemic functions in mature males. Alteration of these hormones results in late-onset hypogonadism (LOH) and benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH). The fruit bodies of fungi of the genus Cordyceps have been regarded as folk medicine or health food with tonic and antifatigue effects. The extract from the fruit body of Cordyceps militaris parasitizing Samia cynthia ricini (CM) was evaluated as a novel-candidate natural product for ameliorating male andropause symptoms. To explore the effects of CM on LOH and BPH, CM was applied to rat models and cultured testicular cells and prostate cells. The concentrations of androgens in the serum and culture media were determined by ELISA. Expression of steroidogenic enzymes and androgen-related genes was evaluated by qPCR, and prostatic cell proliferation was assessed with the cell-viability assay. CM maintained the serum levels of testosterone and DHT, but inhibited testosterone-induced prostate hypertrophy. CM also increased the secretion of testosterone and DHT by primary testicular cells, with no changes in the mRNA expression of steroidogenic enzymes, but decreased the growth of prostatic cell lines. BackgroundCurved periacetabular osteotomy (CPO) is performed via an anterior approach without detachment of the hip abductor muscles. This study aimed to evaluate the abductor muscle status shortly after CPO on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).MethodsWe prospectively evaluated 38 hips in 38 patients 1 week and 3 months after CPO between October 2017 and July 2019. The status of the abductor muscles was assessed on MRI using the following criteria: grade 0, normal; grade I, strain/edema; grade II, partial tear; and grade III, complete tear. We also evaluated associations between muscle status and patients’ characteristics.ResultsOne week after CPO, the gluteus maximus was classified as grade 0 in all patients. The gluteus medius was grade 0 in 84.2% of patients and grade I in 15.8%. The gluteus minimus was grade I in 55.3% of patients and grade II in 44.7%. Three months after CPO, both the gluteus maximus and gluteus medius were grade 0 in all patients, while the gluteus minimus was still grade I in 47.4%. There were no significant differences between patients with a grade 0 and grade I gluteus minimus at 3 months after CPO in patients’ characteristics (age and body mass index) or clinical scores (Harris Hip Score and Japanese Orthopedics Association score).ConclusionBoth the gluteus minimus and medius showed abnormal appearances on MRI 1 week after CPO, whereas only the gluteus minimus showed abnormalities 3 months after CPO. This abductor muscle status did not affect the postoperative Harris Hip Score or Japanese Orthopedics Association score. 相似文献
