Excited-state intra-molecular proton transfer (ESIPT)-active imine and azine derivatives, structurally characterised by XRD, and denoted L1, L2, L3 and L4, possess weak fluorescence. The interaction of these probes with Zn2+ turns ON the fluorescence to allow its nano-molar detection. Among the four ESIPT-active molecules, L2, L3 and L4 are bis-imine derivatives while L1 is a mono-imine derivative. Among the three bis-imine derivatives, one is symmetric (L3) while L2 and L4 are unsymmetrical. The lowest detection limits (DL) of L1, L2, L3 and L4 for Zn2+ are 32.66 nM, 36.16 nM, 15.20 nM and 33.50 nM respectively. All the probes bind Zn2+ (105 M−1 order) strongly. Computational studies explore the orbital level interactions responsible for the associated photo-physical processes.

Single crystal X-ray structurally characterised ESIPT-active weakly fluorescent imine and azine derivatives undergo Zn2+ assisted turn ON fluorescence.  相似文献

A 65-year-old male patient with a long standing history of chronic obstructive lung disease had permanent pacemaker implantation for symptomatic atrioventricular nodal blocks. Preoperative echocardiography showed dilated right heart chambers and moderate pulmonary arterial hypertension without any demonstrable intracardiac shunt. Postoperative twelve-lead ECG showed right bundle branch block configuration of paced complexes. This suggested left ventricular pacing which was confirmed by transthoracic echocardiography. Later, transoesophageal echocardiography showed the lead entering into left atrium from right atrium through a sinus venosus type of atrial septal defect. The patient refused any further intervention and continues to remain asymptomatic with stable pacing on aspirin-anticoagulant therapy at end of four years.  相似文献

Being a carpal bone scaphoid has an important role in wrist movements. Wrist joint is a synovial modified ellipsoid joint where movements like flexion, extension and adduction, abduction take place around two axes (transverse and anteroposterior). These movements at the wrist joint are associated with considerable range of movements at the midcarpal joint, as same group of muscles act on both of these joints. A study has been done amongst 120 persons at the Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Kolkata, West Bengal during the period from 1998-2000 to detect the important movements of scaphoid bone specially during the abduction and adduction of wrist joint (which occur in association with the intercarpal joints) and also to detect whether such movements have any speciality in the population of eastern part of India. It was found in this study that the scaphoid acts as a link bone between the two rows of carpal bones and prevents the buckling of midcarpal joint specially of the capitato-lunate joint interface.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: Alzheimer's disease affects a growing population of elderly people today. The predictions about the course of the disease is a key component of health care decision making for patients with Alzheimer's. The physician's prognosis and predicted trajectory of cognitive decline often form the basis of treatment and health care decisions taken by patients and their families. These predictions are difficult to make because of the high variability and non-linearity exhibited by individual patterns of cognitive decline. This paper presents a new method of predicting the course of a disease using longitudinal data collected through multiple clinic visits. Longitudinal databases are similar to temporal databases, with some important differences--data is collected at irregular time intervals that are patient specific and also a varying number of observations are made for each patient, depending upon the number of times the patient visited the clinic. We propose a new type of neural network called the mixed effects neural network (MENN) model that can incorporate this type of longitudinal information. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We have used longitudinal data on 704 subjects enrolled at the Layton aging and research center (LAARC) at Oregon Health and Science University. A back-propagation algorithm, modified for longitudinal data is used to obtain the weight parameters of the MENN. The modified back-propagation algorithm is further embedded in an iterative procedure that estimates the noise variance and the parameters that capture the longitudinal (temporal) correlation structure. RESULTS: We have compared the performance of the MENN with linear mixed effects models and standard neural networks (NN). MENN show better performance (misclassification rate = 0.13 and relative MSE = 0.35) as compared to standard NN (misclassification rate = 0.34 and relative MSE = 2.74) and linear mixed effects models (misclassification rate = 0.14 and relative MSE = 0.4). CONCLUSION: The results show that this method can be a useful tool for predicting non-linear disease trajectories and uncovering significant prognostic factors in longitudinal databases.  相似文献

Human and equine outbreaks caused by eastern equine encephalomyelitis virus (EEEV) typically occur in North America adjacent to coastal wetlands associated with the presence of Culiseta melanura (Coquillet) mosquitoes. Eastern equine encephalomyelitis (EEE) is an emerging disease in Tennessee, as the first records of equine disease began in 2002. In 2006 we trapped and tested mosquitoes for EEEV at hardwood swamps in western Tennessee that were at the epicenter of a multi-equine outbreak in fall of 2005. Additionally, the Tennessee Valley Authority tested mosquito pools collected in Tennessee swamps from 2000 to 2007 for the presence of arboviruses. Two pools of EEEV positive Culex erraticus (Dyer and Knab) mosquitoes were found (one each in 2003 and 2004) in a county adjacent to where the 2005 outbreak occurred. In 2008, another EEE outbreak involving multiple horses occurred in West Tennessee. A brain specimen was collected from a horse during this outbreak and the first isolate of EEEV from Tennessee was obtained. In total, 74,531 mosquitoes collected from 2000 to 2008 were tested via polymerase chain reaction and VecTest for EEEV. The traditional enzootic vector, Cs. melanura, was found in low numbers at all collection sites. Cx. erraticus, however, was consistently found in high numbers and was the only mosquito species in which EEEV was detected. We suggest that EEE transmission may be maintained by Cx. erraticus in a nontraditional cycle. We discuss the importance of a nontraditional cycle from the perspective of EEEV adaptation and emergence.  相似文献

Local control of mRNA translation has been proposed as a mechanism for regulating synapse-specific plasticity associated with long-term memory. We show here that glomerulus-selective plasticity of Drosophila multiglomerular local interneurons observed during long-term olfactory habituation (LTH) requires the Ataxin-2 protein (Atx2) to function in uniglomerular projection neurons (PNs) postsynaptic to local interneurons (LNs). PN-selective knockdown of Atx2 selectively blocks LTH to odorants to which the PN responds and in addition selectively blocks LTH-associated structural and functional plasticity in odorant-responsive glomeruli. Atx2 has been shown previously to bind DEAD box helicases of the Me31B family, proteins associated with Argonaute (Ago) and microRNA (miRNA) function. Robust transdominant interactions of atx2 with me31B and ago1 indicate that Atx2 functions with miRNA-pathway components for LTH and associated synaptic plasticity. Further direct experiments show that Atx2 is required for miRNA-mediated repression of several translational reporters in vivo. Together, these observations (i) show that Atx2 and miRNA components regulate synapse-specific long-term plasticity in vivo; (ii) identify Atx2 as a component of the miRNA pathway; and (iii) provide insight into the biological function of Atx2 that is of potential relevance to spinocerebellar ataxia and neurodegenerative disease.  相似文献

Background  

Low serum paraoxonase (PON) activity is associated with the risk of coronary artery disease, diabetes and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Our prior studies have shown that the PON1/rs662 (p.Gln192Arg), PON1/rs854560 (p.Leu55Met), PON3/rs17884563 and PON3/rs740264 SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms) significantly affect serum PON activity. Since PON1, PON2 and PON3 share high degree of structural and functional properties, in this study, we examined the role of PON2 genetic variation on serum PON activity, risk of SLE and SLE-related clinical manifestations in a Caucasian case-control sample.  相似文献
