Implication of the Pro12Ala polymorphism of the <Emphasis Type="Italic">PPAR-gamma 2</Emphasis>gene in type 2 diabetes and obesity in the French population

Background  

The Pro12Ala Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) of the Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor gamma 2 (PPAR-gamma 2) has been associated with insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes (T2D) and also inconsistently with obesity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of this SNP with regards to T2D and childhood and adult obesity in the French Caucasian population.     

Adaptive modifications of postural attitude in conditions of weightlessness

Summary Adaptation of static posture was studied before, during, and after a 7-day space flight. Body segment orientations, body stability, and muscle activity underlying the reproduction of several postural attitudes were examined in various visual situations either with the shoes attached to the floor or during free floating. In standing or relaxed subjects whose shoes were attached to the floor, the tonic activity of the ankle flexor was enhanced relative to that in the same posture on earth, whereas the extensor activity disappeared. Errors in attempting to reproduce the normal terrestrial upright posture and a forward-leaning posture were accompanied by major changes in the synergies between neck, hip, knee, and ankle joints. These changes are mainly attributed to cumulative adjustments in response to nonvestibular signals such as tactile, articular, and proprioceptive cues.     

乙肝清胶囊对实验性肝损伤的保护作用

目的：通过本实验观察乙肝清胶囊的保肝降酶作用。方法：实验采用四氯化碳（CCl4）和D－氨基半乳糖（D－Gal）,造成动物急性实验性肝损伤,测定小鼠和大鼠血清GPT和LDH,并进行组织形态学观察。结果：乙肝清胶囊灌胃给药对CCl4和D－Gal急性肝损伤所引起的小鼠和大鼠GPT和LDH升高,均具有明显的抑制作用,且对小鼠和大鼠肝组织病理损伤具有一定保护作用,其1－2g/kg与联苯双酯15mg/kg作用效果接近。结论：乙肝清胶囊对化学物质的所引起的小鼠和大鼠急性肝损伤,具有保肝降酶作用。     

Uveitis occurrence in early inflammatory back pain. Five years data from the prospective French nationwide DESIR cohort

ObjectiveUveitis is a frequent extra rheumatological manifestation in axial Spondyloarthritis (SpA). The aim of study was to evaluate the prevalence and incidence of uveitis over the first five years of a prospective nationwide cohort of patients with high suspicion of early axial SpA, and to evaluate its associated factors.MethodsDESIR is a prospective observational cohort of patients with recent onset inflammatory back pain (more than 3 months, less than 3 years), suggestive of axial SpA, All available factors in the database were compared between patients with and without uveitis at 5 years, by uni and then multivariate analysis. Baseline factors associated with new cases of uveitis occurrence over the 5 years were also analyzed. Significance: P less than 0.05.ResultsAfter 5 years, 91 patients (out of 480 with complete follow-up) had at least one uveitis episode, giving an estimated prevalence of 18.9% [95% CI: 15.4–22.4]. In multivariate analysis, uveitis was significantly associated with dactylitis, and elevated ESR. New incident uveitis occurred in 31 cases over 5 years, giving an estimated incidence rate of 1.29 [0.84–1.74]/100 patient-years. Incidence of new uveitis was associated in multivariate analysis with baseline factors: diagnosis of SpA, sacro iliac MRI inflammatory SPARCC score, dactylitis, syndesmophyte score. No significant association was found with HLA-B27, DMARDs, BASDAI, ASDAS, BASFI.ConclusionFive-years data of the DESIR cohort allowed an estimation of incidence rate of uveitis of 1.3/100p-y; over five years, uveitis was associated with dactylitis, biologic and sacro iliac MRI inflammation.     

The endothelium-derived relaxing factormediated acetylcholine response of the arterial perfusion pressure after cold storage of the isolated rabbit kidney

The vasodilatation induced by acetylcholine (ACh) in a rabbit isolated perfused kidney was abolished when the tissue was exposed to cold ischemia for 72 h in Euro-Collins (EC) solution. This vasodilatation is due to the release of endothelium-derived relaxing factor (EDRF) from renal vasculature as evidenced by the attenuation following methylene blue pretreatment. When kidneys were preserved in EC solution containing UK 38 485, a thromboxane synthase inhibitor, or nicardipine, a calcium channel blocker, ACh-induced vasodilatation persisted after 72 h of cold ischemia. These results were taken as evidence of tissue protective activity of UK 38 485 and nicardipine and have promising implications for cadaveric kidney transplantation.This paper was presented at the 35th World Congress of the International Society of Surgery in Hong Kong in August 1993     

正常人收缩期左侧房室平面位移的超声心动图检测

目的：利用超声心动图检测正常人左侧房室平面位移幅度。方法：被检对象为１４４ 例正常人,男７２ 例,女７２ 例。按不同年龄分为６ 组,分别为：Ⅰ组（ｎ＝ ２４ ,３～６ 岁）;Ⅱ组（ｎ＝２４ ,７～１４ 岁） ;Ⅲ组（ｎ＝２４,１５～１９ 岁） ;Ⅳ组（ｎ＝ ２４,２０～３９ 岁）;Ⅴ组（ｎ＝２４ ,４０ ～５９ 岁） 及Ⅵ组（ｎ＝ ２４ ,≥６０ 岁）。结果：①左心收缩期房室平面位移测值在Ⅰ组～Ⅴ组之间无显著性差异（ Ｐ＞０－０５）,而Ⅵ组测值较Ⅰ组～Ⅴ组的测值均低（ Ｐ＜ ０－０５）;②左心收缩期房室平面位移测值不受心率、血压、体表面积及性别的影响。结论：①左侧房室平面位移测值受年龄因素影响;②制定正常左侧房室平面位移测值可以不考虑心率、血压、体表面积及性别的影响     

Practice protocol for the examination of specimens removed from patients with carcinoma of the urinary bladder, ureter, renal pelvis, and urethra

This article details a practice protocol for the examination and reporting of specimens removed from patients with carcinoma of the urinary bladder, ureter, renal pelvis, or urethra. It was created by a multidisciplinary task force of pathologists and oncologists established by the Cancer Committee of the College of American Pathologists. Documentation for the protocol was obtained from the previously published protocol, the medical literature, personal experience, and consultation with colleagues. After creation and review by the task force, the protocol was sent to 1000 randomly selected practicing pathologists as a survey. Their comments and suggestions were addressed in the final version. The protocol was approved by the Board of Governors of the College of American Pathologists.
