Background:
The gene–environment interaction in the pathogenesis of hypertension has not been extensively studied in occupational noise.Objectives:
The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between noise and hypertension in Egyptian workers, the interaction of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) gene polymorphisms as modifiers, and the possible relationship between noise hearing impairment and hypertension.Methods:
Study subjects were divided into two groups depending on noise exposure level. The control group (n = 161) was exposed to noise intensity <85 dB and the exposed group (n = 217) was exposed to noise intensity ≧85 dB. A polymerase chain reaction was used to differentiate the various genotypes of ACE insertion/deletion (I/D) and ACE G2350A.Results:
Noise significantly increased the likelihood of hypertension. Carriers of the genotypes AG, GG, and DD were vulnerable to hypertension on noise exposure. No association between hypertension and hearing impairment or noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) was found.Conclusion:
Our results support the association between ACE gene polymorphisms and occurrence of hypertension in noise-exposed workers. 相似文献22.

Background
Aortic ischemia–reperfusion (IR) is an important factor in the development of postoperative acute lung injury after abdominal aortic surgery. The aim of the present study was to examine the effect of fluoxetine (Flx), a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor widely used as a preoperative anxiolytic, on lung injury induced by abdominal aortic IR in rats.Methods
Wistar rats were randomized into three groups (n = 7 per group): (1) control (sham laparotomy); (2) IR without Flx (60-min ischemia and 120-min reperfusion); (3) IR with Flx (Flx + IR) (Flx 20 mg/kg/d, intraperitoneally for 3 d before surgery). Lung tissue samples and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) were obtained for biochemical analysis of oxidative status. Ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) level and protein concentrations in BAL and lung wet to dry weight ratios were determined. Histologic evaluation of the lung tissues was also performed.Results
IR without Flx led to significant increase in lipid hydroperoxide, malondialdehyde, and pro-oxidant–antioxidant balance and decrease in superoxide dismutase, glutathione, and ferric reducing antioxidant power activities (P < 0.05 versus control), whereas Flx was able to restore these parameters (P > 0.05 versus control) and decrease IMA level (P < 0.01 versus control) and protein concentration (P < 0.05 versus control) in BAL and wet to dry lung weight ratio. Histologic evaluation showed that Flx attenuated the morphologic changes associated with lung injury.Conclusions
The results indicate that Flx confers protection against aortic IR-induced lung oxidative stress and cellular integrity. IMA levels in BAL may be used as a follow-up marker for the efficacy of treatment in lung injury. 相似文献23.
Background and objectives
Laryngoscopy and intubation can cause hemodynamic response. Various medications may be employed to control that response. In this study, we aimed to compare the effects of dexmedetomidine, fentanyl and esmolol on hemodynamic response.Method
Ninety elective surgery patients who needed endotracheal intubation who were in American Society of Anesthesiology I–II group and ages between 21 and 65 years were included in that prospective, randomized, double‐blind study. Systolic, diastolic, mean arterial pressures, heart rates at the time of admittance at operation room were recorded as basal measurements. The patients were randomized into three groups: Group I (n = 30) received 1 μg/kg dexmedetomidine with infusion in 10 min, Group II (n = 30) received 2 μg/kg fentanyl, Group III received 2 mg/kg esmolol 2 min before induction. The patients were intubated in 3 min. Systolic, diastolic, mean arterial pressures and heart rates were measured before induction, before intubation and 1, 3, 5, 10 min after intubation.Results
When basal levels were compared with the measurements of the groups, it was found that 5 and 10 min after intubation heart rate in Group I and systolic, diastolic, mean arterial pressures in Group III were lower than other measurements (p < 0.05).Conclusions
Dexmedetomidine was superior in the prevention of tachycardia. Esmolol prevented sytolic, diastolic, mean arterial pressure increases following intubation. We concluded that further studies are needed in order to find a strategy that prevents the increase in systemic blood pressure and heart rate both. 相似文献24.

Introduction
The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of Hypericum perforatum for prevention of adhesion formation in rats.Material and methods
Twenty-four female wistar rats underwent left uterine horn adhesion model. Rats were randomised into 4 groups. Group 1 (Control): Closure of abdominal incision without any agent administration. Group 2: Closure of incision after administration of intraperitoneal (i.p.) Ringer''s lactate solution. Group 3: Closure of incision after administration of i.p. olive oil (diluent of H. perforatum). Group 4: Hypericum perforatum extract (Ecodab®) was administered i.p. before the closure of incision. Fourteen days later, relaparatomy was performed and surgical adhesion scores, inflammation and fibrosis scores were noted. Groups were compared according to these scores.Results
There was statistical significant difference between ringer''s lactate group and olive oil group according to surgical adhesion score (p = 0.009). However, groups were not different according to inflammation and fibrosis scores (p > 0.05).Conclusions
Despite antiinflammatory, antioxidants and antimicrobial properties of H. perforatum, our results revealed no positive effect of H. perforatum on the prevention of intraperitoneal adhesion formation. 相似文献26.
Introduction
Subcutaneous abdominal fat thickness (SCFT) is important for predisposition to metabolic and cardiovascular diseases. Our aim was to evaluate maternal SCFT and metabolic changes (such as insulin resistance and high inflammatory markers) during pregnancy.Material and methods
A total of 92 pregnant women between 24–28 weeks of gestation were enrolled in the study. The SCFT was measured by ultrasonography and patients were divided into 2 groups according to thickness of maternal SCFT and body mass index (BMI). Groups were compared with each other for oral glucose loading test (OGL) results, and for haematological, biochemical and fetal biometric parameters.Results
After analysis of frequency for SCFT, the most appropriate cut-off value for grouping patients was found to be 15 mm for SCFT. In 48 cases SCFT was over 15 mm. High C reactive protein (CRP) was found in 47.9% (23) of cases with SCFT over 15 mm. Serum haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) level was significantly correlated with SCFT thickness. The most important factors for determination of OGL level were found to be serum HbA1c level, BMI and SCFT. In obese subjects (BMI ≥ 25 kg/m2), levels of inflammatory markers and SCFT thickness were higher. The CRP and γ-glutamyltransferase (GGT) levels were significantly correlated with BMI and SCFT.Conclusions
High SCFT during pregnancy is associated with elevated inflammatory marker levels and HbA1c. Pregnant women with thicker SCFT may be susceptible to the development of metabolic complications of pregnancy, such as gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and hypertension, as well as risk of future metabolic and cardiovascular disease. 相似文献27.
