It is well recognized that the ability to cryopreserve unfertilizedhuman oocytes would make a significant contribution to infertilitytreatment. However, despite considerable interest, very fewsuccessful pregnancies have arisen from cryopreserved oocytesafter thawing, insemination and transfer of the subsequent embryo.The reasons for this lack of progress may well result from adearth of information on how the various biophysical changesduring a cryopreservation regimen affect human oocyte function.Recently, fundamental studies on the effects of cooling, membranepermeability, cryoprotectant addition and ice formation havebeen performed on human oocytes by a number of groups, and theseform the basis of the current review. cycle exercise. Ten healthy, physically active men cycled for 6 min at moderate intensity and to exhaustion at severe intensity
before and 48 h after eccentric exercise (100 squats with a load corresponding to 70% of body mass). Changes in ventilation
and ratings of perceived exertion (RPE) were calculated for each individual and expressed against time (moderate and severe
exercise) and as a percentage of time to exhaustion (severe exercise). Ventilation increased during moderate exercise at 48 h
(
[(V)\dot]\textE \dot{V}_{\text{E}} ; 34.5 ± 5.0 to 36.3 ± 3.8 l min−1, P < 0.05) but increases in RPE were not significant. During severe exercise at 48 h, time to exhaustion (TTE) was reduced and
[(V)\dot]\textE \dot{V}_{\text{E}} (87.1 ± 14.1 to 93.8 ± 11.7 l min−1) and RPE (15.5 ± 1.3 to 16.1 ± 1.4) were elevated (P < 0.05). When expressed as a percentage of TTE, the differences in ventilation and RPE values disappeared. Findings indicate

Recently developed flat panel detectors have been proven to have a much better image quality than conventional electronic portal imaging devices (EPIDs). They are, however, not yet the ideal systems for portal imaging application due to the low x-ray absorption, i.e., low quantum efficiency (QE), which is typically on the order of 2-4% as compared to the theoretical limit of 100%. The QE of current flat panel systems can be improved by significantly increasing the thickness of the energy conversion layer (i.e., amorphous selenium or phosphor screen). This, however, will be at the expense of a decrease in spatial resolution mainly due to x-ray scatter in the conversion layer (and also the spread of optical photons in the case of phosphor screen). In this paper, we investigate theoretically the intrinsic spatial resolution of a high QE flat panel detector with a new energy conversion layer that is much denser and thicker than that of current flat panel systems. The modulation transfer function (MTF) of the system is calculated based on a theoretical model using a novel approach, which uses an analytical expression for absorbed dose. It is found that if appropriate materials are used for the conversion layer, then the intrinsic MTF of the high QE flat panel is better than that of current EPIDs, and in addition they have a high QE (e.g., approximately 60%). Some general rules for the design of the conversion layer to achieve both high QE and high resolution as well as high DQE are also discussed. 相似文献

Objective
The newest vital sign assesses individual reading and numeracy skills. The aim of this study was to create a Dutch version (NVS-D) and to assess its feasibility, reliability, and validity in The Netherlands.Methods
We performed a qualitative study among experts (n = 27) and patients (n = 30) to develop the NVS-D and to assess its feasibility. For validation, we conducted a quantitative survey (n = 329). Reliability was assessed by Cronbach's alpha. Construct validity was examined by analyzing association patterns. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves determined optimal cut-off scores.Results
Cronbach's alpha was 0.76. In accordance with a priori hypotheses we found strong associations between NVS-D, general vocabulary, prose literacy and objective health literacy, and weaker associations between NVS-D and subjective health literacy. A score of ≥4 out of 6 best distinguished individuals with adequate versus inadequate health literacy.Conclusion
The results suggest that the NVS-D is a reliable and valid tool that allows international comparable health literacy research in The Netherlands.Practice implications
The NVS-D can be applied in research on the role of health literacy in health and health care, and the development of interventions. The methods can be applied in cross-cultural adaptation of health literacy measures in other countries. 相似文献59.

Phenotype determining alleles in GM1 gangliosidosis patients bearing novel GLB1 mutations. GM1 gangliosidosis manifests with progressive psychomotor deterioration and dysostosis of infantile, juvenile, or adult onset, caused by alterations in the structural gene coding for lysosomal acid ß‐galactosidase (GLB1). In addition, allelic variants of this gene can result in Morquio B disease (MBD), a phenotype with dysostosis multiplex and entire lack of neurologic involvement. More than 100 sequence alterations in the GLB1 gene have been identified so far, but only few could be proven to be predictive for one of the GM1 gangliosidosis subtypes or MBD. We performed genotype analyses in 16 GM1 gangliosidosis patients of all phenotypes and detected 28 different genetic lesions. Among these, p.I55FfsX16, p.W65X, p.F107L, p.H112P, p.C127Y, p.W161X, p.I181K, p.C230R, p.W273X, p.R299VfsX5, p.A301V, p.F357L, p.K359KfsX23, p.L389P, p.D448V, p.D448GfsX8, and the intronic mutation IVS6‐8A>G have not been published so far. Due to their occurrence in homozygous patients, four mutations could be correlated to a distinct GM1 gangliosidosis phenotype. Furthermore, the missense mutations from heteroallelic patients and three artificial nonsense mutations were characterized by overexpression in COS‐1 cells, and the subcellular localization of the mutant proteins in fibroblasts was assessed. An x-ray light valve (XLV) coupled with an optical scanner has the potential to meet the need for a low-cost, high quality digital imaging system for general radiography. The XLV/scanner concept combines three well-established, and hence, low-cost technologies: An amorphous selenium (a-Se) layer as an x-ray-to-charge transducer, a liquid crystal (LC) cell as an analog display, and an optical scanner for image digitization. The XLV consists of an a-Se layer and LC cell in a sandwich structure which produces an optical image in the LC layer upon x-ray exposure. The XLV/scanner system consists of an XLV in combination with an optical scanner for image readout. Here, the effect of each component on the spatial resolution of an XLV/scanner system is investigated. A theoretical model of spatial resolution of an XLV is presented based on calculations of the modulation transfer function (MTF) for a-Se and a LC cell. From these component MTFs, the theoretical MTF of the XLV is derived. The model was validated by experiments on a prototype XLV/scanner system. The MTF of the scanner alone was obtained by scanning an optical test target and the MTF of the XLV/scanner system was measured using x rays. From the measured MTF of the scanner, the theoretical MTF of the XLV/scanner system was established and compared with the experimental results. Good general agreement exists between experimental and theoretical results in the frequency range of interest for general radiography, although the theoretical curves slightly overstate the measured MTFs. The experimental MTF of the XLV was compared with the MTF of two clinical systems and was shown to have the capability to exceed the resolution of flat-panel detectors. From this, the authors can conclude that the XLV has an adequate resolution for general radiography. The XLV/scanner also has the potential to eliminate aliasing while maintaining a MTF that exceeds that of a flat-panel imager. 相似文献
