Background:Presenting and demonstrating a surgical procedure in the current era is difficult without good intraoperative pictures and videos. A long, complex, multi-staged surgery is better illustrated by detailed intraoperative images at various stages. Although desirable, it may be difficult due to various reasons.Results:It is a simple technique with a moderate learning curve. Diphyllobothriasis is an intestinal parasitic infection caused by the ingestion of raw fresh-water fish containing the infectious larvae of Diphyllobothrium spp. This infection is uncommon in India. We report a case of diphyllobothriasis that occurred in Pondicherry, India, in a 5-year-old boy hailing from a fishing community. He attended the Pediatric OPD with spontaneous discharge of segments of the adult parasite. The segments (macroscopically and microscopically) were identified as those of Diphyllobothrium latum. Tomosynthesis of the breast is currently a topic of intense interest as a logical next step in the evolution of digital mammography. This study reports on the computation of glandular radiation dose in digital tomosynthesis of the breast. Previously, glandular dose estimations in tomosynthesis have been performed using data from studies of radiation dose in conventional planar mammography. This study evaluates, using Monte Carlo methods, the normalized glandular dose (DgN) to the breast during a tomosynthesis study, and characterizes its dependence on breast size, tissue composition, and x-ray spectrum. The conditions during digital tomosynthesis imaging of the breast were simulated using a computer program based on the Geant4 toolkit. With the use of simulated breasts of varying size, thickness and tissue composition, the DgN to the breast tissue was computed for varying x-ray spectra and tomosynthesis projection angle. Tomosynthesis projections centered about both the cranio-caudal (CC) and medio-lateral oblique (MLO) views were simulated. For each projection angle, the ratio of the glandular dose for that projection to the glandular dose for the zero degree projection was computed. This ratio was denoted the relative glandular dose (RGD) coefficient, and its variation under different imaging parameters was analyzed. Within mammographic energies, the RGD was found to have a weak dependence on glandular fraction and x-ray spectrum for both views. A substantial dependence on breast size and thickness was found for the MLO view, and to a lesser extent for the CC view. Although RGD values deviate substantially from unity as a function of projection angle, the RGD averaged over all projections in a complete tomosynthesis study varies from 0.91 to 1.01. A major question in neuroscience concerns how widely separated brain regions coordinate their activity to produce unitary
cognitive states or motor actions. To investigate this question, we employed multisite, multielectrode recording in rats to
study how olfactory and motor circuits are coupled prior to the execution of an olfactory-driven, GO/NO-GO variant of a skilled,
rapidly executed (∼350–600 ms) reaching task. During task performance, we recorded multi-single units and local field potentials
(LFPs) simultaneously from the rats’ olfactory cortex (specifically, the posterior piriform cortex) and from cortical and
subcortical motor sites (the caudal forepaw M1, and the magnocellular red nucleus, respectively). Analyses on multi-single
units across areas revealed an increase in beta-frequency spiking (12–30 Hz) during a ∼100 ms window surrounding the Final Sniff of the GO cue before lifting the arm (the “Sniff-GO window”) that was seldom seen when animals sniffed the NO-GO cue. Also
during the Sniff-GO window, LFPs displayed a striking increase in beta, low-gamma, and high-gamma energy (12–30, 30–50, and
50–100 Hz, respectively), and oscillations in the high gamma band appeared to be coherent across the recorded sites. These
results indicate that transient, multispectral coherence across cortical and subcortical brain sites is part of the coordination
process prior to sensory-guided movement initiation.

Fetal magnetocardiography (fMCG) is a noninvasive technique suitable for the prenatal diagnosis of the fetal heart function. Reliable fetal cardiac signals can be reconstructed from multi-channel fMCG recordings by means of independent component analysis (ICA). However, the identification of the separated components is usually accomplished by visual inspection. This paper discusses a novel automated system based on entropy estimators, namely approximate entropy (ApEn) and sample entropy (SampEn), for the classification of independent components (ICs). The system was validated on 40 fMCG datasets of normal fetuses with the gestational age ranging from 22 to 37 weeks. Both ApEn and SampEn were able to measure the stability and predictability of the physiological signals separated with ICA, and the entropy values of the three categories were significantly different at p <0.01. The system performances were compared with those of a method based on the analysis of the time and frequency content of the components. The outcomes of this study showed a superior performance of the entropy-based system, in particular for early gestation, with an overall ICs detection rate of 98.75% and 97.92% for ApEn and SampEn respectively, as against a value of 94.50% obtained with the time-frequency-based system. 相似文献

OBJECTIVES: Tamoxifen (TAM), a non-steroidal anti-estrogen that is widely used in adjuvant therapy for all stages of breast carcinomas and in chemoprevention of high-risk group. The hepatic estrogenic effect of TAM induces hypertriglyceridemia by reduced activity of lipolytic enzymes (LPL) on triglycerides. Coenzyme Q10 (Co Q10), riboflavin and niacin are proved to be potent antioxidant and protective agents against many diseases including cancer and cardiovascular diseases (CVD). In this context, the objective of the study is to find the effect of the combined modality of Co Q10 (100 mg), riboflavin (10 mg) and niacin (50 mg) with TAM (10 mg twice a day) on serum lipids and lipoprotein levels in postmenopausal women with breast cancer. DESIGN AND METHODS: The vitamin supplementation with tamoxifen was given for a period of 90 days. Blood samples were collected at the base line, 45th and 90th day during the course of treatment. Plasma total cholesterol (TC), free cholesterol (FC), ester cholesterol (EC), phospholipids (PL), triglycerides (TGL), free fatty acids (FFA), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and very low density cholesterol (VLDL-C) were estimated in 78 untreated, only TAM-treated and combinatorialy treated group along with 46 age- and sex-matched controls. RESULTS: Serum TGL and VLDL-C (p<0.001) were found to be significantly elevated and LDL-C (p<0.01), significantly reduced among TAM-treated patients as compared to the untreated breast cancer subjects. All the lipids and lipoprotein levels were found to be significantly altered in the untreated breast cancer patients when compared to their normal counterparts. All the lipid and lipoprotein abnormalities were reverted back to near normal levels on 90 days of treatment on combinatorial therapy. CONCLUSION: The study figures the altered lipid and lipoprotein levels in the untreated and TAM-treated breast cancer patients. On combination therapy with Co Q10, riboflavin and niacin, it counteracts the tamoxifen-induced hyperlipidemia to normal levels. 相似文献

Primary hepatic malignancies are relatively rare in the pediatric population, accounting for approximately 1%–2% of all pediatric tumors. Hepatoblastoma and hepatocellular carcinoma are the most common primary liver malignancies in children under the age of 5 years and over the age of 10 years, respectively.
