This article describes a novel approach to nursing education, designed to improve the experience of both students in public health nursing, and the local public health unit where they affiliate. Students, faculty, and public health department staff developed a method for matching programs and needs of the local public health unit to the skills and learning needs of nursing students. We describe our experience articulating student competencies, program-specific functions, and an approach to matching student interests and learning opportunities to agency needs. Students, faculty, and staff rated the program moderately to very high in feasibility, satisfaction, and acceptability. Data suggest the novel program served to improve the quality of the practicum affiliation, to the satisfaction of both the school and agency, while contributing to a robust public health learning experience for emerging professional nurses.  相似文献

Baccalaureate nursing education is moving to adopt the new American Association of Colleges of Nursing Essentials for Professional Nursing Education. As identified in two of the six domains of the essentials, graduates need to be prepared to address population health and utilize informatics and healthcare technologies. Community/public health nursing also has eight domains for generalist nurses linked to population health which will help prepare a skilled nursing workforce for the 21st century. The Institute for Healthcare Improvement's Triple Aim which evolved into the Quadruple Aim is focused on improving health outcomes within healthcare delivery. Through a literature review, a need for a Quadruple Aim model for nursing education was identified. Mirroring the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's Triple Aim for healthcare delivery, a Quadruple Aim for Nursing Education Model was developed. The model dimensions include (1) Population-focused Care, (2) Maximize Student Learning Experience, (3) Cost-effective Pedagogy, and (4) Nurse Educator Well-being. The Quadruple Aim for Nursing Education Model supports nursing education to prepare future nurses effectively and efficiently bridging population health concepts and issues with nursing informatics. Nurse educators are encouraged to utilize the model to transform nursing education.  相似文献

Persons who are incarcerated (PWAI) suffer from a disproportionately higher number of physical and mental health conditions. While most jails and prisons provide onsite healthcare, community correctional centers often do not and accessing community healthcare is challenging due to insurance issues, inadequate health literacy, mistrust, and long waits for appointments. A registered nurse-led wellness clinic provides a viable solution to addressing the healthcare needs of PWAI in a community correctional setting. Through a community-academic partnership between a college of nursing and two community correctional transitional centers for men, a registered nurse (RN) faculty member and nursing students provide onsite healthcare. Services include, but are not limited to, acute and chronic disease management, case management, healthcare navigation, and health education. In the first 2 years of operation, there have been 587 new resident health assessments, 882 RN visits, and 152 group education sessions. RN visits have been primarily for: connection to resources (42.6%), medication management (15.6%), and acute conditions (12%). A RN-led wellness clinic is an innovative way to address health needs for PWAI. While this model of care focuses on an academic RN faculty practice at community correctional centers it could be replicated across community settings.  相似文献

Aims

This study of a levy-voter funded public health initiative program (1) identifies capacity-building concerns, (2) summarizes those concerns at the community-based organization (CBO) level, and (3) documents the desired CBO capacity-building outcome.

Participants

Nineteen participants from nine CBOs were included, representing 95% of participants (19/20) and 90% of CBOs (9/10) from the initiative's program population.

Methods

Interviews were conducted. A focus group validated data. Demographic surveys were completed.

Methodology and Analysis

Data were analyzed using demographic and inductive content analyses. Fifteen capacity-building unexpected concerns were identified. Participants from eight out of nine (88.8%) CBOs shared at least ten concerns. Seven CBO capacity-building outcomes were identified.

Results

Capacity-building providers helped participants mitigate the Initiative's capacity-building testing of the National Implementation Research Network (NIRN) model. Participants' NIRN processes were Western and mainstream. Participants wanted community-designed processes and the funder to understand CBO clients’ backgrounds, cultures, and languages. The contract money did not match the needed capacity-building processes, time, and workload.

Discussion

The funder's pre-selected the NIRN Western majority approach did not fit. Participants wanted to lead. Capacity-building only for home-based program development was less desired. Social justice leadership could have made a difference.  相似文献
