The aim of this prospective non-randomized study was to evaluate the alterations in taste sensation after myringoplasty and to investigate the influence of smoking on taste. Ninety-six patients who underwent myringoplasty and 43 healthy controls were examined. Whole-mouth gustatory test solutions were sucrose (sweet); sodium chloride (salty taste); citrate (sour) taste; and quinine hydrochloride (bitter). Sucrose, citric acid, and sodium chloride recognition thresholds were high in the early postoperative period; however, they were regressed to the preoperative status in course of time. No difference was found between preoperative, early/late postoperative taste recognition thresholds of smoker and non-smoker patients. Underlay myringoplasty has little but transient effect on taste recognition in the early postoperative period. This impairment is completely recovered within 6 months. Furthermore, smoking has no effect on the taste recognition of patients with permanent tympanic membrane perforation and has no influence on the alterations in taste recognition thresholds after myringoplasty. We believe that this study will supply some additional aspects in the scope of taste disturbances due to ear surgery and smoking. This paper has not been previously published and also it has not been under consideration elsewhere.  相似文献

In vitro studies have demonstrated a 27% increased efficacy of lenograstim over filgrastim. However, equal doses of 10 microg/kg/day of filgrastim and lenograstim have been recommended for mobilization of CD34+ cells without associated chemotherapy. In this study, we investigated whether a 25% reduced dose of lenograstim at 7.5 microg/kg/day is equavalent to 10 microg/kg/day filgrastim for autologous peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) mobilization and transplantation. A total of 40 consecutive patients were randomized to either filgrastim (n = 20) or lenograstim (n = 20). The two cohorts were similar in regard to disease, sex, body weight, body surface area, conditioning regimens, previous chemotherapy cycles and radiotherapy. Each growth factor was administered for 4 consecutive days. The first PBSC apheresis was done on the 5th day. In the posttransplant period, the same G-CSF was given at 5 microg/kg/day until leukocyte engraftment. Successful mobilization was achieved in 95% of patients. Successful mobilization with the first apheresis, was achieved in 10/20 (50%) patients in the filgrastim group versus 9/20 (46%) patients in the lenograstim group. No significant difference was seen in the median number of CD34+cells mobilized, as well as the median number of apheresis, median volume of apheresis, percentage of CD34+ cells, and CD34+ cell number. Leukocyte and platelet engraftments, the number of days requiring G-CSF and parenteral antibiotics, the number of transfusions were similar in both groups in the posttransplant period. Lenograstim 7.5 microg/kg/day is as efficious as filgrastim 10 microg/kg/day for autologous PBSC mobilization and transplantation.  相似文献

Background: Human toxocariasis is a parasitic infection caused by the larvae of Toxocara canis. We examine the Toxocara seroprevalance in veterinarians and animal husbandry workers living in the Mugla Province, Turkey to evaluate better the risk factors for Toxocara exposure. Methods: In 2014, 376 volunteers participated in the study in 2014. All blood specimens were tested using a commercial enzyme immunoassay kit and ELISA positive samples were confirmed by Western Blot (WB) method. Results: The seroprevalence of Toxocara, as determined by WB, was 8%. A statistically significant correlation was evident between patient age and Toxocara positivity among animal husbandry workers (P = 0.029). A strong association was also evident between sex and seropositivity in the animal husbandry group (P=0.024). Veterinarians working in pet clinics did in fact exhibit higher Toxocara seropositivities relative to those of other groups (P = 0.029). A statistically significant difference was detected between the rural geographic areas surveyed (P = 0.04). Conclusion: In Mugla Province, seroprevalence of Toxocara is lower than other regions. Despite the low seroprevalence observed, especially in high risk professions toxocariasis remains an important medical concern within the region. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of psychological factors in the development of complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) type I following the fracture of the distal radius. Fifty patients (average age 57.70 ± 13.43 years) with a distal radius fracture were enrolled in the present study. All of the patients were treated by closed reduction and cast immobilization. The Toronto Alexithymia Scale-20, Anxiety Sensitivity Index, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, and Beck Depression Inventory were used to determine the patients’ psychological features 2 days after the fracture. The patients were followed for 2 months after cast immobilization was completed using the International Association for the Study of Pain criteria to diagnose CRPS type I. CRPS type I developed in 13 (26%) patients of the 32 (34.4%) female patients and 18 (11.1%) male patients. The risk of CRPS type I was significantly increased in patients with high trait anxiety scores (P = 0.038). The results show that, after fracturing the distal radius, patients who have an anxious personality have a higher risk of developing CRPS type I. Following these patients closely for the development of CRPS type I may be advantageous for early preventative and therapeutic interventions.  相似文献

The present study was planned to explain the relation between erythrocyte osmotic fragility and oxidative stress and antioxidant statue in primary hypothyroid-induced experimental rats. Twenty-four Spraque Dawley type female rats were divided into two, as control (n=12) and experimental (n=12), groups weighing between 160 and 200 g. The experimental group animals have received tap water methimazole added standard fodder to block the iodine pumps for 30 d (75 mg/100 g). Control group animals were fed tap water and only standard fodder for the same period. At the end of 30 d blood samples were drawn from the abdominal aorta of the rats under ether anesthesia. T3, T4, and TSH levels were measured and the animals that had relatively lower T3, T4, and higher TSH levels were accepted as hypothyroid group. Hormone levels of the control group were at euthyroid conditions. Osmotic fragility, as a lipid peroxidation indicator malondialdehyde (MDA), antioxidant defense system indicators superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione (GSH) levels were measured in the blood samples. Osmotic fragility test results: There was no statistically significant difference found between maximum osmotic hemolysis limit values of both group. Minimum osmotic hemolysis limit value of hypothyroid group was found to be higher than that of control group values (p<0.02). The standard hemolysis and hemolytic increment curve of the hypothyroid group drawn according to osmotic fragility test results was found to be shifted to the right when compared to control group’s curve. This situation and hemolytic increment value, which shows maximum hemolysis ratio, is the proof of increased osmotic fragility of the erythrocytes in hypothyroidism. There is no statistically significant difference found between hypothyroid and control groups in the lipid peroxidation indicator MDA and antioxidant indicators SOD and GSH levels. As a result of our study it may be concluded that hypothyroidism may lead to an increase in osmotic fragility of erythrocytes. But the increase in erythrocyte osmotic fragility does not originate from lipid peroxidation.  相似文献

Methylprednisolone (MP) released by poly(d,l-lactide-co-glycolide) microspheres (PLGA MS) was monitored in plasma after intra-articular (i.a.) administration into rat joint. A validated LC-ESI-MS/MS method was used to quantify the plasmatic concentrations of MP. The calculated pharmacokinetic parameters were compared to those obtained after the i.a. administration of a commercially available suspension of MP acetate (MPA). Different pharmacokinetic profiles were observed in the two formulations, and a lower peak level (C(max) = 13.7 ± 4.3 ng · mL(-1)) and AUC(0-72 h) (198 ± 45 ng · mL(-1) · h) were observed for MP-PLGA MS than MPA (C(max) = 18.4 ± 2.7 ng · mL(-1)) and AUC(0-72 h) (943 ± 249 ng · mL(-1) · h). The administration of MP-PLGA MS resulted in a rapid increase in the MP concentration at 30 min, with a t(max) at 0.8 ± 0.3 h. Instead, for the MPA suspension the t(max) was 32.0 ± 13.9 h. These differences were indirectly confirmed by the evaluation of the extra-articular effects, namely, carrageenan-induced paw edema, since MP-PLGA MS showed a lower anti-inflammatory activity than MPA.  相似文献
