Rotavirus infection in children of Nizhny Novgorod, Russia: the gradual change of the virus allele from P[8]-1 to P[8]-3 in the period 1984–2010

A collection of rotavirus samples collected over a 26-year period was examined to study the dynamics of change in RV strains of genotype P[8] in a geographically defined population (Nizhny Novgorod, Russia; children under 6?years) with no vaccine pressure. Phylogenetic analysis of gene VP4 (subunit VP8*) showed the presence of two lines of genotype P[8]: P[8]-1 and P[8]-3. Since 1997, the dominant population of rotavirus has been occupied by strains carrying the allele P[8]-3, which is associated with G1, G3 and G4. The complete replacement of the allele P[8]-1 to P[8]-3 took 19 epidemic years.     

In vitro investigation of the antiviral activity of Ingavirin against human metapneumovirus

The antiviral activity of Ingavirin against human metapneumovirus (HMPV) infection was investigated in vitro. The investigation used the human cell line ChangConjunctiva, permissive for HMPV, clone 1-5C4, and the HMPV strain isolated at the D. I. Ivanovsky Research Institute of Virology. The experimental studies suggest that when added at a concentration of 50 to 500 microg/ml to a nutrient medium 24 hours after HMPV infection, Ingavirin suppressed effectively virus replication by 2.2-3.3 logs, respectively. When used at a concentration of 500 microg/ml 24 hours before cell infection, Ingavirin protected cells from HMPV infection.     

退行性腰椎侧凸与骨质疏松症的关系探讨

目的探讨退行性腰椎侧凸（degenerativelumbarscoliosis,DIS）与骨质疏松症（osteoporosis,OP）两者之间的关系。方法选取2006年6月-2010年6月来我院就诊的DIS患者58例及对照组（非腰椎侧凸的腰痛患者）58例,对DIS组Cobb’s角进行测量,并采用双能x线吸收法检测两组患者腰椎（k～L4）、股骨颈、股骨粗隆和Ward’s三角区骨密度T值,分析患者年龄、Cobb’s角与骨密度T值的相关性。结果DIS组平均骨密度T值为-2．7±1．8,合并OP45例,发病率为77．59％;对照组平均骨密度T值为-1．3±1．0,合并OP8例,发病率为13．79％,两组比较有显著性差异（P〈0．05）。相关分析显示,DIS患者T值与年龄呈正相关（r=-0．318,P〈0．01）,与侧凸Cobb’s角无关。结论OP是DLS发病的危险因素,同时年龄越大OP程度越重,但与DLS进展程度无关。临床DLS治疗时要考虑到OP的影响。

Effect of thyrotropin releasing hormone and thyroxine on cytochrome oxidase activity in the rat adenohypophysis

Thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH), in a dose of 0.01 and 1.0 g/ml, sharply increased cytochrome oxidase activity in the adenohypophysis of rats fed for 6 weeks with methylthiouracil. This effect of TRH on enzyme activity was blocked by thyroxine (T₄), if added to the incubation medium in a concentration of 20 g/ml. Actinomycin D (20 g/ml) prevented the blocking of cytochrome oxidase by T₄. TRH in a concentration of 0.01 g/ml and T₄, in a dose of 2.0 g/ml, caused no change in cytochrome oxidase activity in the adenohypophysis of intact and partially thyroidectomized rats.Laboratory of Biological Standardization of Hormones, Institute of Experimental Endocrinology and Hormone Chemistry, Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR, Moscow.
