Care of the newborn diagnosed with a congenital malignancy is a challenge for the neonatal intensive-care unit nurse. Malignancies found in infants differ from those found in older children. Nursing care of the neonate suspected or diagnosed with a congenital malignancy includes standard practices and problem identification as well as interventions unique to the patient with cancer. Event-related potentials were recorded in a simple reaction time task using a 3-sec interval between S1 and S2. The sensory modalities of S1 and S2 were varied across 4 conditions to yield all possible combinations of tones and flashes. A negative component which peaked between 600 and 800 msec after S1 was specific in scalp distribution to the modality of S1 but not S2. It was concluded that this negative component is a response to S1 and not related to processes associated with anticipation of S2. A slow negative shift which peaked at S2 was largest at the vertex in all conditions, suggesting its motor origin. A trend for the latter activity to be more negative in posterior recordings when S2 was visual than auditory leaves open the possibility that the terminal CNV is a combination of motor activities and anticipation of the sensory modality of S2.  相似文献

Serum levels of IgE, anti-IgE autoantibodies (Abs), and IgE/IgG anti-IgE immune complexes (ICs) were measured in 110 children with asthma and 90 healthy control children. Significantly enhanced levels of IgE/anti-IgE IC were detected in children with asthma. However, only a weak correlation was found between anti-IgE auto-Ab serum levels and the degree of lung function abnormalities in children with asthma. However, children with asthma with low serum IgE levels had elevated IC serum levels of IgE/anti-IgE auto-Abs, suggesting that IgE might be hidden within these ICs and is therefore not measurable in vitro. The significant elevation of IgE/anti-IgE IC serum levels raises the question whether IgE within ICs is neutralized or might still be involved in immunologic mechanisms responsible for clinical symptoms of bronchial asthma.  相似文献

Event-related potentials were studied while subjects performed physical and semantic discrimination tasks. Two negative components, NA and N2, were observed in both kinds of discriminations. The earlier component, NA, had a constant onset latency, but its peak latency varied as a function of stimulus complexity. N2 latency varied in relation to changes in the peak of NA. RT and P3 followed N2 by similar amounts of time across tasks. The NA and N2 components were interpreted as reflecting partially overlapping sequential stages of processing associated with pattern recognition and stimulus classification, respectively.  相似文献

The ontogeny of B-cell precursors in chicken embryos from day 3 of incubation onwards has been studied. Purified antibodies to chicken Ig L, gamma, mu, alpha chains were used in a sensitive indirect immunofluorescence assayed on fixed cell smears and wax-embedded tissue sections; the location and morphology of immunoglobulin positive (Ig+) cells were determined either in phase contrast or after histological staining. Lymphoid cells containing small amounts of cytoplasmic immunoglobulin were found in 3 day and older embryonic yolk sac, 11 and 12 day blood, 11, 12 and 13 day bursal mesenchyme. cIg+ large basophilic cells were first seen in 14 day bursal follicles. It is concluded that cells enter the embryonic bursa at different developmental stages: some appear to be uncommitted stem cells, whilst others have already commenced B-cell maturation in an extra-bursal site.  相似文献

In NIH 3T3 fibroblasts expressing the Ha-ras oncogene (+ras) bradykinin leads to sustained oscillations of cell membrane potential due to oscillations of intracellular Ca2+ with subsequent activation of Ca2+-sensitive K+ channels. In cells not expressing the oncogene (-ras), bradykinin leads only to a single transient hyperpolarization of the cell membrane. The present study has been performed to elucidate the possible interaction of cell volume, intracellular pH and bradykinin-induced oscillations of the cell membrane potential. Bradykinin leads to cell shrinkage and intracellular alkalinization of both +ras cells and –ras cells. Inhibition of Na+/H+ exchanger by HOE 694 abolishes the bradykinin-induced alkalinization but does not significantly interfere with the bradykinin-induced oscillations of cell membrane potential. In contrast, prevention of bradykinin-induced cell shrinkage by simultaneous reduction of extracellular osmolarity blunts the oscillations. Thus, cell shrinkage stimulates bradykinin-induced oscillations of cell membrane potential. On the other hand, cell shrinkage alone does not elicit oscillations unless, in addition, Ca2+ entry is stimulated by ionomycin.  相似文献

Event-related potentials were recorded in a developmental study of picture matching using an adaptation of Posner's (1978) letter-matching tasks. Subjects ranging in age from 6-39 were asked to decide whether two line drawings, presented sequentially, were the same or different on the basis of physical (physical identity), nominal (name identity), or categorical (category identity) criteria. The amplitude of a negativity at 400 ms (Neg400) increased as the number of dimensions on which the two line drawings differed increased. This effect held for all age groups, and was interpreted as reflecting the degree of semantic and/or physical relationship between the two pictures. However, one finding for Neg400 did suggest a qualitative difference in processing mode between the younger and older subjects. Both Neg400 and P3b latencies showed highly significant linear age trends, decreasing with increasing age. These age-related changes were interpreted as demonstrating quantitative speed of processing differences among age groups. The latencies of both Neg400 and P3b increased as the matching criteria became more complex. Moreover, P3b latency increased as the number of dimensions on which the two pictures differed increased, and this did not interact with age. Although both Neg400 and P3b showed age-related changes in scalp distribution, the fact that each was related to the experimental variables in similar fashion in all age groups suggested that they were homologous components across the age range studied. Taken as a whole, the data support continuity of information processing during these tasks across a wide age range.  相似文献

11-Methacryloylaminoundecanoic acid ( 1 ) was esterified with the monoalcohols isobutyl alcohol, cyclohexanol, DL -menthol, cholesterol, testosterone and an excess of 12-hydroxylauric acid in the presence of lipase as catalyst. The kinetics of the esterification reactions were followed by 1H NMR spectroscopy and the results were correlated with sterical effects. The monomers were polymerized radically. The monomeric 12-hydroxylauric acid oligoester 11 as well as its homopolymer 12 were characterized by DSC and viscosity measurements.  相似文献

Myasthenia gravis thymus: clinical, histological and culture correlations   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
This paper attempts to quantitate immunohistological changes in the myasthenia gravis (MG) thymus and to correlate them with clinical and culture parameters in 40 untreated young onset patients covering a wide range of durations and serum anti-acetylcholine receptor (AChR) antibody titers. Total cellularities of both the thymic cortex and the medulla declined significantly with age. There was some hyperplasia of subcapsular and of medullary epithelial cells, often at the expense of cortex. A combined index of all hyperplastic changes correlated significantly with serum anti-AChR titre. Otherwise histological indices, e.g. of germinal centres (GC) were largely unrelated to any clinical parameters, especially duration of symptoms. Specific anti-AChR synthesis in culture (very closely related to serum titer) correlated better with the medullary lymph node-type T-cell areas; these were more widely prevalent and MG-specific. In contrast, basal and mitogen-stimulated total IgG productivity followed the GC indices more closely. We propose that the variability of GC is due to their dependence on extraneous immune complexes, and we discuss whether they or the T-cell areas are primary or secondary abnormalities. Finally, we conclude that autosensitization in MG with thymic hyperplasia and neoplasia probably arises through separate mechanisms.  相似文献

Optimal analysis of composite cytokine responses during alloreactivity   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6  
The one-way mixed lymphocyte reaction (MLR) is a useful model of the graft-vs.-host (GvH) response that occurs following bone-marrow transplantation (BMT). Previous studies of the MLR have shown high levels of type-1 cytokine production, such as IL-1, IL-6, IFN-γ and TNF-, but low or undetectable levels of type-2 cytokines, such as IL-4 and IL-10. Here, through establishing optimal conditions for the examination of levels and kinetics of a more definitive panel of type-1/type-2 cytokines (IL-4, IL-5, IL-10 and IL-13, IFN-γ, TNF- and the soluble IL-4 receptor) we show that, contrary to previously published data, the human alloresponse is truly heterogeneous, resulting in abundant type-2 as well as type-1 cytokine secretion. The kinetics of cytokine levels in the MLR show surprising complexity, suggesting a well-defined regulation as the alloresponse develops over time. Furthermore, each MLR responder:stimulator combination tested produces a composite cytokine profile that is intrinsic to that particular pairing. These combination-specific cytokine responses are reproducible when tested on multiple occasions over time. These data reveal a potential clinical application for the cytokine MLR in selecting donors for BMT with the least inflammatory cytokine profile. Additional analysis of this system reveals that the bulk of cytokine measured is both allospecific and T-cell-derived, with comparatively low levels produced through an autologous mechanism. Interestingly, although most of the cytokine detected is produced by CD45RO+ ‘mature/activated’ T cells, CD45RA+ ‘naive’ T cells are responsible for transient early production of IL-4. This novel finding suggests that naive T cells themselves could regulate type-1/type-2 developmental fate through an autocrine IL-4 mechanism.  相似文献
