The association between rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and cancer is still controversial. This study aimed to estimate cancer incidence (both overall and site-specific) among patients with RA and to determine whether their cancer risk was higher than in the general population. We used the nationwide dynamic cohort from the National Health Insurance Research Database of Taiwan and obtained a total of 30,504 patients with no history of cancer who were newly diagnosed with RA between 1996 and 2008; they were followed up until 2010. Standardized incidence ratios (SIR) by age for various types of cancer were calculated in 5-year calendar periods by 5-year age intervals (quinquinquennium) to compare elevated risk of increasing age and increased cancer rate in later calendar years in Taiwan. During 225,432 person-years of follow-up, 1,595 cancers occurred, corresponding to 7.08 per 1,000 person-years. The SIR for all cancers was 0.93 (95 % CI 0.88–0.97). Most cancers were found in the first 2 years after diagnosis of RA, but the incidence decreased afterward. A significant excess of Hodgkin’s lymphoma (SIR 3.31, 95 % CI 1.24–8.81) and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (SIR 3.18, 95 % CI 2.64–3.83) was seen among patients with RA, whereas the risk of colorectal cancer was 29 % lower than the general population. In conclusion, this study showed that patients with RA do not have increased overall risk of cancers but have higher risk of hematologic malignancies and lower risk of colorectal cancer, than the general population. 相似文献

The Ras-Raf-mitogen-activated protein kinase/extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) kinase (MEK)-ERK cascade is important in the intra-cellular transduction of neurotransmitters, such as dopamine and glutamate. Sorafenib (Nexavar), a multi-kinase inhibitor targeting Raf kinase, vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR) and platelet-derived growth factor, has shown promising results in the treatment of malignancies. BAY86-9766, a novel selective MEK 1/2 inhibitor, is being evaluated in clinical trials as an anticancer drug. We describe herein a hepatocellular carcinoma patient presenting with recurrent psychotic symptoms in the course of the BASIL trial (assessing BAY86-9766 plus sorafenib for the treatment of liver cancer). In this case, VEGFR inhibition caused by sorafenib alone may have contributed to the development of psychosis. A change in ERK activity might also have been involved. However, whether single or combination use of the two drugs is responsible for inducing the psychotic symptoms remains unclear. In summary, the role of the ERK pathway in psychosis is still vague. Further investigation of the ERK activity in patients with psychotic disorders may disclose its role in the pathophysiology of psychosis. 相似文献

The selective removal of radioactive cationic species, specifically 137Cs+ and 90Sr2+, from contaminated water is critical for nuclear waste remediation processes and environmental cleanup after accidents, such as the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant disaster in 2011. Nanoporous silicates, such as zeolites, are most commonly used for this process but in addition to acting as selective ion exchange media must also be deployable in a correct physical form for flow columns. Herein, Digital Light Processing (DLP) three-dimensional (3D) printing was utilized to form monoliths from zeolite ion exchange powders that are known to be good for nuclear wastewater treatment. The monoliths comprise 3D porous structures that will selectively remove radionuclides in an engineered form that can be tailored to various sizes and shapes as required for any column system and can even be made with fine-grained powders unsuitable for normal gravity flow column use. 3D-printed monoliths of zeolites chabazite and 4A were made, characterized, and evaluated for their ion exchange capacities for cesium and strontium under static conditions. The 3D-printed monoliths with 50 wt% zeolite loadings exhibit Cs and Sr uptake with an equivalent ion-capacity as their pristine powders. These monoliths retain their porosity, shape and mechanical integrity in aqueous media, providing a great potential for use to not only remove radionuclides from nuclear wastewater, but more widely in other aqueous separation-based applications and processes.3D-printed monoliths of zeolites chabazite and 4A were made, characterized, and shown effective for removing strontium and caesium from water. 相似文献

Ellagic acid (EA), a natural polyphenol found in berries, has high antioxidant capacity. This study aimed to improve EA solubility by complex formation with urea (UR) using solvent evaporation method and evaluate its solubility, antioxidant capacity, and physical properties. The solubility test (25 °C, 72 h) showed that the solubility of EVP (EA/UR = 1/1) was approximately two-fold higher than that of EA (7.13 µg/mL versus 3.99 µg/mL). Moreover, the IC50 values of EA and EVP (EA/UR = 1/1) (1.50 µg/mL and 1.30 µg/mL, respectively) showed higher antioxidant capacity of EVP than that of EA. DSC analysis revealed that the UR peak at 134 °C disappeared, and a new endothermic peak was observed at approximately 250 °C for EVP (EA/UR = 1/1). PXRD measurements showed that the characteristic peaks of EA at 2θ = 12.0° and 28.0° and of UR at 2θ = 22.0°, 24.3°, and 29.1° disappeared and that new peaks were identified at 2θ = 10.6°, 18.7°, and 26.8° for EVP (EA/UR = 1/1). According to 2D NOESY NMR spectroscopy, cross-peaks were observed between the -NH and -OH groups, suggesting intermolecular interactions between EA and UR. Therefore, complexation was confirmed in EA/UR = 1/1 prepared by solvent evaporation, suggesting that it contributed to the improvement in solubility and antioxidant capacity of EA. 相似文献

In decerebrate paralyzed cats, spectral analysis was performed on simultaneous recordings of efferent inspiratory nerves (phrenic, recurrent laryngeal, hypoglossal). Spectral peaks were present both in the high-frequency (HFO) range (50-100 Hz) and the medium-frequency (MFO) range (20-50 Hz).
