Objective:

To investigate the relationship of psychosocial factors (lack of social support, stress and subjective well-being) and personality traits with myocardial infarction (MI).

Materials and Methods:

A case–control study involving 100 cases and 100 matched controls was conducted in Lok Nayak Hospital, New Delhi.

Results:

Stress over 1 year was significantly higher in cases (P < 0.001). However, difference was not significant when scores of social support (P = 0.2), Presumptive Stressful Life Event (PSLE) over lifetime (P = 0.058) and subjective well-being (P = 0.987) were compared. MI was significantly associated with hyperactive (P < 0.001), dominant (P = 0.03), egoistic (P < 0.001) and introvert (P < 0.001) personalities.

Conclusion:

Certain personality traits and recent stress may be important risk factors of MI, especially in Indians. The finding may have implications on the preventive strategies planned for MI patients.  相似文献

Background: Obesity/overweight is a recognized risk factor for a host of disorders. The disease risk stratification is commonly based on the Quetelets Index (Body Mass Index-BMI), a surrogate measure of fatness. The currently used BMI cut-offs to classify people as overweight or obese in Armed Forces have been defined in studies on Caucasian populations. However, because of differences in body structure and composition in different ethnic, socioeconomic, cultural and regional groups the correspondence between BMI and body fat content varies between populations. We conducted this pilot study in the Indian Navy to define BMI cut-offs for overweight and obesity using body fat content derived from Skin Fold Thickness as the standard.  相似文献

Copper is known to pose a serious threat to aquatic organisms. However, the mechanisms of its toxicity still remain unclear. Cu is known to exert its toxicity partly due to the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The purpose of this work was therefore to link the exposure to copper at pH 6 and 7 to cellular formation of ROS and effects like cell viability and genotoxicity using the rainbow trout gill cell line RTgill-W1. To relate effects to bioavailable copper, free Cu(2+) concentrations in the medium were calculated using the programm ChemEQL 3.0. 2',7'-Dichlorodihydrofluorescein-diacetate (H(2)DCF-DA) was used as cell-permeant indicator of ROS formation. Cell viability was assessed using the fluorogenic probe 5-carboxyfluorescein diacetate acetoxymethyl ester (CFDA-AM). DNA strand breaks were assessed using the comet assay, and lipid peroxidation was investigated using the thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances assay (TBARS). Copper treatment resulted in a dose-dependent elevation in cytotoxicity and formation of cellular ROS. Cell viability was significantly reduced at total copper (Cu(T)) concentrations of 5 microM (corresponding to a free Cu(2+) of 0.11 microM at pH 7) and higher, resulting in an EC(50) of Cu(T)=29.2 microM (Cu(2+)=0.63 microM, pH 7). Neither an impairment concerning the viability of control cells due to growth at pH 6 was observed nor significant differences for cytotoxicity in cells exposed to the same nominal Cu(T) concentrations at pH 6 compared to pH 7. Cellular ROS concentrations increased significantly and decreased with loss of cell viability. After normalizing ROS formation to cell viability, ROS induction up to 25-35-fold compared to the control was detected, but mainly for rather high concentrations (Cu(T) > or = 100 microM; Cu(2+) > or = 2.2 microM, pH 7). ROS formation rates were slightly higher when cells were exposed to Cu at pH 6 compared to pH 7, correlating with the higher free Cu(2+) concentrations. A significant induction of DNA strand breaks was noted at Cu(T) of 1 and 2.5 microM with greater effects at pH 6 due to higher free Cu(2+) concentrations than at pH 7. No effects on lipid peroxidation were observed. These results lead to the hypothesis that copper-induced loss in viability and genotoxicity in trout gill cells are partially triggered by the generation of ROS and related to the free Cu(2+).  相似文献

IntroductionNumerous CE-marked SARS-CoV-2 antigen rapid diagnostic tests (Ag RDT) are offered in Europe, several of them with unconfirmed quality claims.AimWe performed an independent head-to-head evaluation of the sensitivity of SARS-CoV-2 Ag RDT offered in Germany.MethodsWe addressed the sensitivity of 122 Ag RDT in direct comparison using a common evaluation panel comprised of 50 specimens. Minimum sensitivity of 75% for panel specimens with a PCR quantification cycle (Cq) ≤ 25 was used to identify Ag RDT eligible for reimbursement in the German healthcare system.ResultsThe sensitivity of different SARS-CoV-2 Ag RDT varied over a wide range. The sensitivity limit of 75% for panel members with Cq ≤ 25 was met by 96 of the 122 tests evaluated; 26 tests exhibited lower sensitivity, few of which failed completely. Some RDT exhibited high sensitivity, e.g. 97.5 % for Cq < 30.ConclusionsThis comparative evaluation succeeded in distinguishing less sensitive from better performing Ag RDT. Most of the evaluated Ag RDT appeared to be suitable for fast identification of acute infections associated with high viral loads. Market access of SARS-CoV-2 Ag RDT should be based on minimal requirements for sensitivity and specificity.  相似文献
