Osteopenia/osteoporosis and sarcopenia are common geriatric diseases among older adults and harm activities of daily living (ADL) and quality of life (QOL). Osteosarcopenia is a unique syndrome that is a concomitant of both osteopenia/osteoporosis and sarcopenia. This review aimed to summarize the related factors and clinical outcomes of osteosarcopenia to facilitate understanding, evaluation, prevention, treatment, and further research on osteosarcopenia. We searched the literature to include meta-analyses, reviews, and clinical trials. The prevalence of osteosarcopenia among community-dwelling older adults is significantly higher in female (up to 64.3%) compared to male (8–11%). Osteosarcopenia is a risk factor for death, fractures, and falls based on longitudinal studies. However, the associations between osteosarcopenia and many other factors have been derived based on cross-sectional studies, so the causal relationship is not clear. Few studies of osteosarcopenia in hospitals have been conducted. Osteosarcopenia is a new concept and has not yet been fully researched its relationship to clinical outcomes. Longitudinal studies and high-quality interventional studies are warranted in the future. 相似文献

Malnutrition negatively affects the quality of life of patients with dysphagia. Despite the need for nutritional status assessment in patients with dysphagia, standard, effective nutritional assessments are not yet available, and the identification of optimal nutritional assessment items for patients with dysphagia is inadequate. We conducted a scoping review of the use of nutritional assessment items in adult patients with oropharyngeal and esophageal dysphagia. The MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials databases were searched to identify articles published in English within the last 30 years. Twenty-two studies met the inclusion criteria. Seven nutritional assessment categories were identified: body mass index (BMI), nutritional screening tool, anthropometric measurements, body composition, dietary assessment, blood biomarkers, and other. BMI and albumin were more commonly assessed in adults. The Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM), defining new diagnostic criteria for malnutrition, includes the categories of BMI, nutritional screening tool, anthropometric measurements, body composition, and dietary assessment as its required components, but not the blood biomarkers and the “other” categories. We recommend assessing nutritional status, including GLIM criteria, in adult patients with dysphagia. This would standardize nutritional assessments in patients with dysphagia and allow future global comparisons of the prevalence and outcomes of malnutrition, as well as of appropriate interventions. 相似文献

1-Methyl-tetrahydro--carboline-3-carboxylic acid (MTCA) may cause eosinophilia-myalgia syndrome (EMS) associated with ingestion ofl-tryptophan. The distribution and excretion of MTCA were studied in rats which had received perorally a single 1.6 mg/kg dose of MTCA. MTCA concentrations in blood, kidney, liver, brain, heart, spleen, lung and gastrocnemius muscle were measured by HPLC combined with fluorometric detection. The concentration of MTCA in each organ reached a maximum at 1 h and then gradually declined. However, a significant level of MTCA still remained at 5 h, when 52% of ingested MTCA remained in the contents of the large intestine. Twenty-nine percent of the ingested MTCA was excreted in urine over the course of 24 h. A higher dose (10 mg/kg) of MTCA resulted in significant elevations in the concentrations and amounts of MTCA in the various organs. In addition, chronic treatment with a 10 mg/kg dose of MTCA for 6 weeks further increased the concentrations and amounts of MTCA in each organ. However, no histological changes were observed in any of the organs after chronic treatment. Several plasma components, such as complement (C) components, play a role in the clearance of liposomes from the circulation. The interactions between liposomes and the C system were investigated in this study. Multilamellar vesicle (MLV) liposomes, which were damaged by activation of the complement, became susceptible depending on the density of cetylmannoside (Man) on the liposome membrane, and activation proceeded through the alternative C pathway as observed for liposomes without Man (PC-MLV) (K. Funato et al, Biochim. Biophys. Acta 1103:198–204, 1992). In addition, the capacity of Man-modified liposomes (Man-MLV) to activate the alternative C pathway was abolished by preadsorption of plasma with Man-MLV but not with PC-MLV. The results suggest that a specific plasma factor adsorbed with Man-MLV was responsible for the augmentation of the C activation and, further, that the rapid clearance of Man-MLV from the circulation is caused by both enhanced C-mediated liposome permeability and enhanced C-mediated phagocytosis of liposomes. 相似文献

A case of a melanotic schwannoma presenting as a soft tissue mass of the abductors of the hip is reported. The radiographic findings suggested myositis ossificans, but several subtle findings raised the concern for something else. A bilobed appearance, lack of classic zoning pattern of the ossification, and atypical pain pattern should alert the physician. Fragility of the electron transport chain and superoxide generation in mitochondria of the liver graft after cold ischemia 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
BACKGROUND: After cold ischemia, electrons transferred in the electron transport chain may leak out of the mitochondria in proportion to the deterioration of mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation. This seems to be one major cause of the lipid peroxidation that occurs mainly in the hepatocytes at reperfusion in liver transplantation. To examine this hypothesis, we investigated superoxide generation and the amount of oxidative phosphorylation in the mitochondria isolated from rat livers after cold preservation. METHODS: Rat liver was preserved in University of Wisconsin solution at 4 degrees C for 24 hr. The mitochondrial fraction was prepared, and the amount of ATP synthesis and superoxide generation was investigated. Superoxide generation in the electron transport chain of submitochondrial particles was also measured by a chemiluminescence recorder. RESULTS: The amount of ATP synthesis was significantly decreased after 12 hr of cold preservation. In the whole mitochondria, superoxide production in the presence of succinate was approximately 1/2000 to 1/3000 less than that observed in the submitochondrial particles at any determination point, and superoxide production was not affected by cold preservation. In the presence of antimycin A, superoxide production in the mitochondria after 18 hr of preservation increased significantly. CONCLUSION: These results indicate that the electron transfer in the complex III of the mitochondrial membrane becomes leaky after long periods of cold ischemia, but that leakage of superoxide anion did not increase, although the mitochondrial respiratory phosphorylation was deteriorated. We conclude that superoxide through the mitochondrial membrane cannot cause lipid peroxidation in hepatocytes at reperfusion even after a long period of cold ischemia. 相似文献

Medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) is widely used in endocrine therapy for breast cancer and other diseases. Recently, it has been demonstrated that 9alpha-fluoromedroxyprogesterone acetate (FMPA) also has anti-tumour activity in chemical-induced rat mammary tumour and its activity is greater than that of MPA. In the present study, the physico-chemical properties of FMPA and MPA and their pharmacokinetics in female rats were investigated. Partition coefficients (log P) of FMPA and MPA were 3.1 and 3.8, respectively, while the solubilities of FMPA and MPA in phosphate buffer saline were 3.8 and 1.1 microg/mL, respectively. When the two agents were intravenously or orally administered into female rats, there was no significant difference between their plasma concentrations. However, unmetabolized drug excreted into urine accounted for 4.7 and 0.7% of the intravenous dose of FMPA and MPA, respectively. The free fraction of FMPA in rat plasma was approximately four times that of MPA. Assuming the well-stirred model, hepatic intrinsic clearances of FMPA and MPA were estimated to be 64 and 293 L/h per kg, respectively. In addition, the free fraction of FMPA in blood is estimated to be higher than that of MPA, which may explain the higher anti-tumour activity. 相似文献
