Self‐assembled structures obtained from organic molecules have shown great potential for applications in a wide range of domains. In this context, short peptides prove to be a particularly versatile class of organic building blocks for self‐assembled materials. These species afford the biocompatibility and polymorphic richness typical of proteins while allowing synthetic availability and robustness typical of smaller molecules. At the nano‐to‐mesoscale, the architectures obtained from peptide units exhibit stability and a large variety of morphologies, the most common of which are nanotubes, nanoribbons, and nanowires. This review describes the formation of peptide‐based self‐assembled structures triggered by different stimuli (e.g., ionic strength, pH, and polarity), and the interactions that drive the assembling processes. It is surveyed how judicious molecular design is exploited to impart favourable assembling properties to afford systems with desired characteristics. A large body of literature provides the experimental and in silico data to predict self‐assembly in a given peptide system and obtain different supramolecular organizations for applications in a wide range of fields, from transport to sensing, from catalysis to drug delivery and tissue regeneration.  相似文献

Reversible lysine acetylation is a highly regulated post-translational protein modification that is known to regulate several signaling pathways. However, little is known about the radiation-induced changes in the acetylome. In this study, we analyzed the acute post-translational acetylation changes in primary human cardiac microvascular endothelial cells 4 h after a gamma radiation dose of 2 Gy. The acetylated peptides were enriched using anti-acetyl conjugated agarose beads. A total of 54 proteins were found to be altered in their acetylation status, 23 of which were deacetylated and 31 acetylated. Pathway analyses showed three protein categories particularly affected by radiation-induced changes in the acetylation status: the proteins involved in the translation process, the proteins of stress response, and mitochondrial proteins. The activation of the canonical and non-canonical Wnt signaling pathways affecting actin cytoskeleton signaling and cell cycle progression was predicted. The protein expression levels of two nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+)-dependent deacetylases, sirtuin 1 and sirtuin 3, were significantly but transiently upregulated 4 but not 24 h after irradiation. The status of the p53 protein, a target of sirtuin 1, was found to be rapidly stabilized by acetylation after radiation exposure. These findings indicate that post-translational modification of proteins by acetylation and deacetylation is essentially affecting the radiation response of the endothelium.  相似文献

People suffering from schizophrenia-spectrum disorders often endorse a reduced quality of life (QoL) as compared to the general population. There appears to be a lack of studies for rural catchment areas for this patient population. We conducted a cross-sectional study with 94 people with schizophrenia-spectrum disorders in a mainly rural alpine area. We used multilevel models controlled for covariates to analyze the data. Total service satisfaction was associated with psychological aspects of subjective QoL and physical well-being in our model. Variables characterizing autonomy and empowerment of the person seem crucial concerning the QoL in this population.  相似文献

Objective: Our aim was to develop and evaluate a two-module training program (KOKOS-Rheuma) specifically designed to enhance the ability of persons with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases to communicate in various everyday situations.

Design: KOKOS-Rheuma deals with communication at work (particularly superiors), with physicians, acquaintances, strangers and staff members of authorities and institutions and focuses on communication skills such as “saying no” and “giving and receiving feedback.” Members of the German League against Rheumatism (GLR) were trained to deliver the program to self-help groups over two sessions or in a full-day session. The participants, trainers and observers completed a short evaluation form after each module or at the end of the full-day session.

Main Outcome Measures: The evaluation was based on 232 participant, 51 trainer, and 8 observer evaluation forms.

Results: The participants rated all aspects of the training as good. The training was rated higher in the single session format. The great majority would recommend the course to other people.

Conclusion: After the revision of the training manual, KOKOS-Rheuma can be recommended for inclusion in the training schedule of the GLR. We recommend that future trainers receive more extensive preparation for delivering the course that highlights the preparation time required.  相似文献
