The lateral hypothalamus is part of an efferent system that modifies pain at the spinal cord dorsal horn, but the mechanisms by which lateral hypothalamus-induced antinociception occur are not fully understood. Previous work has shown that antinociception produced from electrical stimulation of the lateral hypothalamus is mediated in part by spinally projecting 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) neurons in the ventromedial medulla. To further examine the role of the lateral hypothalamus in antinociception, the cholinergic agonist carbamylcholine chloride (125 nmol) was microinjected into the lateral hypothalamus of female Sprague-Dawley rats and nociceptive responses measured on the tail-flick and foot-withdrawal tests. Intrathecal injections of the selective 5-HT1A, 5-HT1B, 5-HT3 receptor antagonists, WAY 100135, SB-224289, and tropisetron, respectively, and the non-specific antagonist methysergide, were given. Lateral hypothalamus stimulation with carbamylcholine chloride produced significant antinociception that was blocked by WAY 100135, tropisetron, and SB-224289 on both the tail-flick and foot-withdrawal tests. Methysergide was not different from controls on the tail flick test, but increased foot-withdrawal latencies compared with controls. These results suggest that the lateral hypothalamus modifies nociception in part by activating spinally projecting serotonin neurons that act at 5-HT1A, 5-HT1B, and 5-HT3 receptors in the dorsal horn. 相似文献

This test involves measuring the rate of conversion of prekallikrein to kallikrein under certain standard conditions. Polyphenolic compounds are well known as a functional food with various bioactivities. However, less attention has been paid to the effect of phenolic antioxidants on the preservation of blood vessels. In this study, the possible effects of green tea polyphenolic compounds (GTPCs) on the longterm preservation of the human saphenous vein (HSV) were investigated under physiological conditions. HSV segments were pretreated with GTPCs (0.5 or 1.0 mg/mL) for 1 day and then incubated for 1, 2, 4, or 8 weeks. After incubation, cellular viability, endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) expression level, biomechanical properties, and vein histology were evaluated. When HSV segments were incubated without GTPC treatment, endothelial cell viability was significantly (p < 0.05) reduced with incubation time, and none of the endothelial cells expressed eNOS after 2 weeks. Furthermore, nontreated veins demonstrated appreciable inferiority in such mechanical properties as failure strength, elastic modulus, and compliance, compared with fresh veins. These results were confirmed by histological observations, which showed severe structural changes in nontreated veins. On the other hand, these phenomena were markedly prevented by preincubating veins with GTPCs (1.0 mg/mL) at 37 degrees C in a CO(2) incubator for 1 day. GTPC-pretreated veins could be preserved for at least 2 weeks under physiological conditions, retaining cellular viability and eNOS expression level and maintaining both biomechanical properties and vascular structures without any morphological alterations. These results demonstrate that GTPC treatment may be a useful method for preserving the HSV and could be exploited to craft strategies for the long-term preservation of other tissues under physiological conditions. 相似文献

We describe a case of a 54-yr-old AL amyloidosis patient who developed femoral compressive neuropathy due to iliopsoas pseudohypertrophy. The patient, who presented with end stage renal disease, was referred to our clinic because of lower extremity weakness and polyarthritis. Finally, he was diagnosed as having kappa-AL amyloidosis, complicated by femoral compressive neuropathy, hypertrophic amyloid myopathy, amyloid arthropathy, carpal tunnel syndrome, and end stage renal disease. Femoral compressive neuropathy has never been reported in association with amyloid induced iliopsoas hypertrophic myopathy. This report expands the clinical spectrum of AL amyloidosis. 相似文献

Summary: Gas‐phase assisted surface polymerization (GASP) of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and styrene (St) was investigated with Fe‐based radical initiating systems, FeCl2/2,2′‐bipyridine (Bpy)/methyl α‐bromophenylacetate (MBPA), etc. GASP with these initiating systems proceeded to produce corresponding polymers on substrate surfaces. The resulting PMMA had very high PDI values, suggesting an uncontrolled reaction. In an attempt to control the GASP, polymerization with a simple initiating system, Fe(0)/MBPA, was examined on Fe(0)‐metal surfaces, resulting in significant polymerization activity to produce high‐molecular‐weight PMMA. The results of time‐course tests on GASP of MMA and St suggested that a change had taken place to produce physically controlled propagation sites on the Fe(0) powder surfaces.
