Heat shockin vivo modulates cytotoxicity of xenobiotics

Heat shock was modeledin vivo for induction of cross-thermotolerance to acrylamide, a xenobiotic inductor of oxidative stress. Single hyperthermia (40–41°C, 25 min) reduced neuro- and hepatotoxicity of xenobiotic toxifying by phenobarbital-, but not methylcholanthrene-induced cytochrome P-450 isoforms (the hexenal test). The kinetics of the blast transformation of lymphocytes in patients with nonrheumatic myocarditis]

Studies of lymphocyte blastogenesis with peripheral blood cultures from patients suffering from non-coronary-related diseases of the myocardium revealed considerable impairments of its kinetics in the patients with myocarditis and dystrophic injury to the cardiac muscle. The ability of the peripheral blood lymphocytes to blastogenesis correlated with the severity of the clinical symptoms of the disease. Depression of the functional activity of short-lived suppressants was observed in patients with steady residual symptoms of nonrheumatic myocarditis.     

Extracavitary esophageal end-to-side anastomosis in esophagoplasty with a tube formed from the greater curvature of the stomach

The article discusses information on experience in the formation of 367 extracavitary esophageal anastomoses in esophagoplasty with a tube formed from the greater curvature of the stomach in malignant esophageal tumors. Four main types of anastomosis were encountered: oblique--142, end to end--101, end to side--91, and atypical--33. Various complications occurred in 40.3% of patients, in end to side anastomosis in 26.3% of cases. The authors discuss in detail the operative techniques and the indications for this type of anastomosis. The authors consider it preferable to form the extracavitary esophagogastric anastomosis on the posterior wall of the transplant with a decompression stoma.     

The diagnosis of malignant neoplasms of the naso- and oropharynx by using computed magnetic resonance tomography in an ultralow field]

MR tomography examination of 51 patients with maxillofacial or cervical cancer provided adequate diagnostic information especially in the absence of bone involvement. The method proved efficient in differentiating tumors with inflammation, in tumor localization, evaluation of its size and spread, outline, structure, invasion. It is safe, noninvasive. For differential purposes the technique is most beneficial in impulse double echo mode with proton density and T2.
