A quantitative chemical analysis of total cholesterol, bilirubin, calcium, inorganic phosphate and iron of three types of biliary calculi (cholesterol, pigment and mixed) of 40 gall stone former was carried out and correlated to with those of there sera. A moderately positive correlation for inorganic phosphate, Ca2+ and Fe2+ content of sera and calculi of cholesterol stone patient was found. A Good positive correlation for total cholesterol, a moderately positive correlation for bilirubin and iron but no correlation for inorganic phosphate and calcium content of sera and calculi of pigment stone patient was observed. A good moderately positive correlation for iron but no correlation for total cholesterol, bilirubin, inorganic phosphate and Ca2+ content of sera and calculi of stone patient was found.  相似文献

Ambient temperature related sleep changes in rats neonatally treated with capsaicin. PHYSIOL BEHAV 00(0) 000-000, 2004. The study was conducted on adult male Wistar rats, neonatally treated with capsaicin to destroy the peripheral warm receptors. The sleep-wakefulness was recorded for 5 h at an ambient temperature (T(amb)) of 18, 24, 30 and 33 degrees C on different days. The rectal temperatures (T(r)) of the rats were studied on exposure to 6 and 37 degrees C for 2 h to assess their thermoregulatory ability. The changes in the behavioral thermoregulation were assessed by noting the thermal preference of rats when they were placed in an environmental chamber with 3 interconnected compartments maintained at 24, 27 and 30 degrees C. Slow wave (SWS) and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep were decreased at 18 degrees C and increased at 30 degrees C, in control rats. There was a decrease in REM sleep and no change in SWS when T(amb) was raised from 30 to 33 degrees C. However, in neonatally capsaicin treated rats, sleep was increased even at 33 degrees C, though there was no significant change in sleep when T(amb) was increased from 18 to 24 degrees C. Capsaicin treated rats showed thermoregulatory deficiency at 37 degrees C but the thermal preference was unaltered in these rats. The results suggest that the central warm receptors can produce alteration in sleep at different T(amb), even in absence of peripheral warm receptors. The behavioral thermoregulation was unaffected in these rats, though their ability to defend the body temperature in warm environment was affected.  相似文献

Surface reactivity of Calcium Phosphate materials--Hydroxyapatite (HA), Tricalcium Phosphate (beta-TCP), Hydroxyapatite-Tricalcium Phosphate (HA-TCP) were elucidated in a cell culture system. MG-63 osteoblast-like cells were seeded onto the ceramic discs to evaluate changes in the cell morphology and functionality with respect to the different substrates. The dissolution and re-precipitation of calcium phosphate phases on the surface of the discs in the culture medium was found to be prominent on beta-TCP when compared with HA. Low calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels and high phosphorous (P) levels in the medium of beta-TCP were observed. This indicated that P must have leached out into the medium from beta-TCP and Ca in turn deposited from the medium onto beta-TCP resulting in the apatite phase transformation. The low ALP activity in beta-TCP medium is however an indication of low osteoblastic activity. Under the phase contrast microscope, the osteoblast cells around HA material were found to be confluent and viable, while in the vicinity of beta-TCP only cellular debris was observed. In the case of HA-TCP, only a few viable cells surrounded the material amidst the debris. Scanning electron microscopy revealed numerous cells on the surface of HA showing different cell behaviour like anchorage, attachment, adhesion and spreading in the early time period as the surface was only slightly disturbed with re-crystallisation. But with time the entire surface of HA had changed due to precipitation and re-crystallization which did not support cell behaviour while the cells surrounding the material showed normal growth. On the contrary, cells were scarcely observed on the entirely changed surface of beta-TCP and HA-TCP even from the earlier days of the culture and the morphology of cells surrounding the material too started changing. These results establish that HA promoted the activity of osteoblast cells. HA surface remained unaltered for some time, while the surface of beta-TCP underwent dissolution of surface ions and resulted in the re-crystallization of apatite over the surface. The resulting changes in the surrounding milieu of beta-TCP with high phosphate and low Ca levels probably was responsible for the death of the cells.  相似文献

SCH 56592 is a novel triazole antifungal agent that is active both orally and intravenously. This compound is in phase II-III clinical trials for the treatment of systemic fungal infections. A high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method was developed for the analysis of SCH 56592 in serum of dogs, a species used for safety evaluation. The HPLC analysis involved protein precipitation with methanol followed by separation on a C18 column and quantitation by UV absorbance at 262 nm. The method was sensitive with a limit of quantification of 0.05 microg/ml in dog serum. The linearity was satisfactory as indicated by correlations of >0.996, in addition to visual examination of the calibration curves. The precision and accuracy were satisfactory as indicated by coefficients of variation (C.V.) ranging from 2.0 to 3.8%, and bias values ranging from -6.5 to 10%. Moreover, SCH 56592 was stable in dog serum after being subjected to three freeze-thaw cycles. The assay was shown to be sensitive, specific, accurate, precise, and reliable for use in pharmacokinetic or toxicokinetic studies.  相似文献

A new selective differential medium for the isolation ofStenotrophomonas (formerlyXanthomonas) maltophilia was developed. The medium, VIA agar, contained vancomycin, imipenem, and amphotericin B as selective agents and incorporated a mannitol/bromothymol blue indicator system. Compared withXanthomonas maltophilia Selective Medium (XMSM), VIA agar was less inhibitory toStenotrophomonas maltophilia and was more selective than XMSM in preventing the growth of unwanted bacteria from contaminated specimens. Although vancomycin-resistant strains ofEnterococcus faecium may grow on VIA agar, these can be easily distinguished fromStenotrophomonas maltophilia because of mannitol fermentation.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The amplitude of the startle reflex response is known to be influenced by the concomitant presentation of affect-toned material--if it is positive affect-toned, the reflex is inhibited, and if it is negative affect-toned, the reflex is augmented. Abundant evidence demonstrates the utility of the affect-startle paradigm as a significant tool for measuring both positive and negative emotions. We applied this paradigm to study emotional reactivity in depression, particularly in relation to symptoms of depression, anhedonia, and anxiety. METHODS: Depressed patients (22) and controls (22) were shown a series of film clips, consisting of two clips with positive valence, two with negative valence, and two with relatively neutral valence. The startle response was measured in reaction to the acoustic startle-eliciting stimuli presented three times binaurally during each clip. RESULTS: Highly depressed and anhedonic patients, relative to controls, showed a reduced mood (self-ratings) and a lack of startle modulation in response to affective film clips whereas patients relatively low on depression/anhedonia displayed a reduced mood only with pleasant clips and a normal pattern of affective startle modulation. Anhedonia and depression were highly positively correlated but neither correlated with anxiety. Anxious patients displayed larger reflexes across all clips and showed a reduced mood modulation with pleasant, but not unpleasant, clips. LIMITATIONS: The large majority of patients was medicated with antidepressants which may have influenced the results. CONCLUSIONS. Reactivity to pleasant stimuli is diminished in patients suffering from low levels of depression and/or anhedonia, but reactivity even to unpleasant stimuli seems compromised at high levels of depression and/or anhedonia. Anxiety is associated with hyperstartle responding.  相似文献

The hemagglutinin (HA) of influenza viruses initiates infection by binding to sialic acid on the cell surface via alpha2,6 (human) or alpha2,3 (avian) linkage. The influenza neuraminidase (NA) can cleave both alpha2,3- and alpha2,6-linked sialic acids, but all influenza NAs have a marked preference for the non-human alpha2,3 linkage. Recent H3N2 influenza viruses have lost the ability to agglutinate chicken red blood cells. To determine if changes in HA specificity or affinity correlate with NA specificity or activity, we examined red cell binding and elution of a series of H3N2 viruses. We found that the NA activity of many influenza viruses does not release binding by their HA. In some egg-adapted strains, lack of elution correlates with low levels of viral NA activity, and these elute rapidly when bacterial NA is added. However, a Fujian-like virus, A/Oklahoma/323/03, does not elute by its own NA or with Vibrio cholerae sialidase, and it binds to red cells pre-treated with V. cholerae sialidase. It elutes after addition of the broad specificity Micromonospora viridifaciens sialidase. Human glycophorin inhibits A/Oklahoma/323/03 hemagglutination 6-fold better than fetuin. We conclude that specific forms of sialic acid are used as receptor by recent human H3N2 influenza viruses, perhaps involving branched alpha2,6 sialic acid or alpha2,8 sialic acid structures on O-linked carbohydrates. The virus itself has no O-linked glycans, so even though the NA is not able to cleave receptors on cells, the viruses will not self-aggregate. It will be important to monitor efficacy of neuraminidase inhibitors in case there are NA-resistant receptors in the human respiratory tract that allow the viruses to be less dependent on NA activity.  相似文献
