Gingival salivary gland choristoma

A unique example of a gingival salivary gland choristoma together with a gingival cyst is described in a human autopsy specimen of periodontal tissues. A choristoma is a tumor-like growth which is derived from primordial cells which have been displaced from their original tissue or organ. Only 6 other examples of the gingival salivary gland choristoma have been described in the world literature.     

Azide function and polyaddition: reaction of 2-azido-2,4,4-trimethylpentane and monoazidopoly(2-methylpropene) with some dienophiles

The 1,3-dipolar addition of 2-azido-2,4,4-trimethylpentane ( 1 ) to acetylene and ethylene derivatives such as phenylacetylene (2), acrylonitrile, diphenyl fumarate ( 4 ) and N,N′-methylenebis(1,4-phenylene)dimaleimide ( 8 ) leads to the corresponding triazole and triazoline derivatives. This study demonstrates that tertiary azides are able to react with dienophiles, and the application of this reaction for the synthesis of block copolymers was investigated with monoazido-telechelic poly(2-methylpropene) (PMP). It was shown that the azido group is stable under the severe conditions of the polycondensation reaction without decomposition (170°C, 24 h), and the monoadduct PMP- 8 is produced with acceptable yield.

THE ISOLATION OF THE BLOOD GROUP SPECIFIC B SUBSTANCE

The isolation of group specific B substance from human stomach juice is described. The substance is carbohydrate-like in nature and is as potent as the carbohydrate-like substance group A isolated from commercial pepsin and peptone respectively.     

Quantitative (82)Rb PET/CT: development and validation of myocardial perfusion database.

The use of myocardial perfusion (82)Rb PET/CT studies continues to increase but its accuracy using database quantification methods for the diagnosis of coronary artery disease (CAD) has not been established. METHODS: A sex-independent normal database and criteria for abnormality for rest-stress (82)Rb PET/CT myocardial perfusion imaging were developed and validated by evaluation of 281 patients (136 females: mean age +/- SD, 63.3 +/- 13.3 y; 145 males: mean age +/- SD, 63.9 +/- 12.8 y) who underwent a rest-adenosine stress (82)Rb PET/CT study. These patients were divided into 3 groups: (a) healthy group: 30 patients, with <5% likelihood of CAD (low likelihood [LLK]) based on sequential Bayesian analysis; these patients were used to generate the normal distribution; (b) pilot group: 174 patients; these patients were used to determine the optimal criteria for detecting and localizing the perfusion abnormality; and (c) validation group: 76 patients (23 with LLK of CAD and 53 who underwent coronary angiography; these patients were used for prospective validation. RESULTS: Of the 53 patients who underwent coronary angiography, 8 had <50% stenosis and 45 patients had at least one stenosis > or =50% in one major artery. Fifteen patients had single-vessel disease, 17 had double-vessel disease, and 13 had triple-vessel disease. The prospective validation shows a normalcy rate of 78% (18/23) for global CAD. The analyses by individual arteries show a normalcy rate of 96% (22/23) for the left anterior descending coronary artery, 96% for the left circumflex coronary artery (22/23), and 100% for the right coronary artery (23/23). The overall sensitivity for detection of CAD (> or =50% stenosis) was 93% (42/45). The overall specificity for detection of the absence of CAD (< or =50% stenosis) was 75% (6/8). Also, the positive predictive value for global CAD was 95% (42/44), the negative predictive value was 67% (6/9), and the accuracy was 91% (48/53). CONCLUSION: The quantitative (82)Rb PET/CT database created and validated in this study is highly accurate for the detection and localization of CAD. Physicians should consider using the quantitative output of these algorithms as decision support tools to aid with image interpretation.     

Rational sub-division of plant trypanosomes (Phytomonas spp.) based on minicircle conserved region analysis.

The sequences of minicircle conserved regions from various plant trypanosomatids have been determined and analyzed. The goal of this study was to add another tool to the arsenal of molecular probes for distinguishing between the different trypanosomatids occurring in plants: systemic trypanosomatids multiplying in the sap, those from the laticiferous tubes, and those developing in fruits, seeds or flowers but not in the plant itself and that are frequently considered as opportunistic insect trypanosomatids. As some plant intraphloemic trypanosomatids are the causative agents of important diseases, a clear definition of the different types of trypanosomatids is critical. The conserved region of the mitochondrial minicircle provides several specific features in a small sequence region containing three functionally elements required for minicircle replication. Trees generated from the analysis recapitulated trees drawn from analyses of isoenzymes, RAPD, and particular gene sequences, supporting the validity of the small region used in this work. Three groups of isolates were significant and in accordance with previous work. The peculiarity of phloem-restricted trypanosomatids associated with wilts of coconut and oil palm in Latin America - group H - is confirmed. In agreement with previous studies on their biological and serological properties the results highlighted this group called 'phloemicola'. It always differentiated from all other latex and fruit isolates or opportunistic trypanosomatids, like insect trypanosomatids. We can assert that phloemicola is the only well-defined taxon among all plant trypanosomatids. A group of non-pathogenic latex isolates from South American euphorbs (G), and a heterogenous group (A) including one fruit, one possible latex and one insect isolate are clearly distinct groups. The group of Mediterranean isolates from latex (D), even with a low boostrap, stood out well from other groups. The remainder of the isolates fell into a heterogeneous cluster. At least eight different groups in the plant trypanosomatids were identified.     

Functional therapy of functional disorders in general medicine

Functional disturbances are clearly to be diagnosed by anamnesis and clinical examination and the causes in psyche, in the field of vegetative disturbance or in the blocked motor segment are to be established. According to the differentiated diagnosis psychotherapy, neural therapy and manual therapy, respectively, at a sufficiently early beginning of the therapy are able to remove the disturbance. With this can be begun at the early consultation. Thus an "exclusion diagnostics" is not inhibited, this is in no case justifies the delay of the therapy. Conclusions for the training, the further training and improvement are necessary.
