Internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions of nuclear ribosomal RNA gene were amplified from 23 plant- and herbarium specimens belonging to eight Plantago species (P. asiatica, P. depressa, P. major, P. erosa, P. hostifolia, P. camtschatica, P. virginica and P. lanceolata). Sequence comparison indicated that these Plantago species could be identified based on the sequence type of the ITS locus. Sequence analysis of the ITS regions amplified from the crude drug Plantago Herb obtained in the markets indicated that all the drugs from Japan were derived from P. asiatica whereas the samples obtained in China were originated from various Plantago species including P. asiatica, P. depressa, P. major and P. erosa. 相似文献

Bronchial asthma is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways, in which inflammation causes bronchial hyper-responsiveness and flow limitation in the presence of various stimuli. Pulmonary function in asthmatic patients frequently deteriorates between midnight and early morning, which has suggested a role for chronotherapy. Although relationships between bronchial asthma and the function of clock genes remain unclear, some medications given for asthma such as glucocorticoids or beta(2)-adrenoceptor agonists may influence clock genes in vivo. In our studies of clock gene mRNA expressions in human bronchial epithelial cells in vitro and peripheral blood cells in vivo, we demonstrated that glucocorticoid or beta(2)-adrenoceptor agonist treatment strongly induced human Per1 mRNA expression both in vitro and in vivo. Human peripheral blood cells provide a useful indication of peripheral clock gene mRNA expression in vivo. 相似文献

Several viruses have been demonstrated to be the etiologic agent in chronic progressive diseases, associated with persistence; however, major questions concerning the pathogenic mechanisms of viral persistence are still unanswered. With the aim of identifying host cellular proteins that may play a role in viral replication, we established long-term persistently infected human glioblastoma cell lines with mutant measles virus (MV) and analyzed the host proteins by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) with mass spectrometry. We observed significant down-modulation in the expression of mitochondrial short chain enoyl-CoA hydratase (ECHS), which catalyzes the beta-oxidation pathway of fatty acid. Knockdown of this gene by a short interference RNA (siRNA) apparently impaired wild-type MV replication and the cytopathic effects (CPEs) of MV were significantly reduced in siRNA-transfected cells. These findings will shed light upon a new important notion for the interaction between virus replication and lipid metabolism in host cells and might provide a new strategy for virus control. 相似文献

Various water-soluble polymers were used to examine an alternative emulsifier for poly(ethylene-alt-maleic anhydride), used in the preparation of crosslinked polyurea microcapsules. Microcapsules were successfully prepared by using the water-soluble polymers with large molecular weight alternating copolymers, namely poly(olefin-maleic anhydride), poly(olefin-maleic acid), and poly(acrylic acid). On the other hand, no microcapsule resulted from olefin-maleic acid with small molecular weight alternating copolymers. From these results, the following guidelines were obtained for the selection of polymeric surfactants suitable for crosslinked polyurea microcapsule. A polymeric surfactant must have maleic acid or a carboxyl group in order to form a crosslinked polyurea microcapsule membrane. Furthermore, to form a stronger capsule membrane it is desirable to have a maleic anhydride group. In this study, the authors assessed gender differences between the relationships of self-efficacy and the internal health locus of control with compliance in hemodialysis patients. Using a self-efficacy scale for health-related behavior and the Japanese version of the Health Locus of Control Scale, the authors studied individuals who had been regularly undergoing hemodialysis for longer than 1 year. Blood urea nitrogen, serum potassium, and interdialytic weight gain were used to measure compliance. In men, self-efficacy and the internal health locus of control were negatively correlated with all compliance measures. In women, all the correlations were positive, except for that between self-efficacy and interdialytic weight gain. The authors constructed regression lines for the significant interactions. On the basis of blood urea nitrogen or serum potassium levels, the authors found that female patients who had higher self-efficacy or internal health locus of control were less compliant. The decrease of interdialytic weight gain accompanying increased self-efficacy was more significant in men than it was in women. 相似文献

Since 1995, the Baylor Group has been developing a totally implantable NEDO BVAD system. This 10-year program was completed in March 2005, and preparation for clinical trials is underway. This article summarizes the entire 10-year NEDO program and describes the strategy for clinical trials. The project aimed to achieve: (1) dual centrifugal pumps with the ability of full biventricular support, (2) a compact system implantable into small adults, (3) a totally implantable system with transcutaneous energy transmission system (TETS), (4) a durable system with a lifetime of over 5 years, and (5) a system free of thrombus and with minimal hemolysis. The final goals are to complete preclinical system evaluations and commence the clinical trials in the near future. In vitro studies have demonstrated a pump capacity of over 8.5 l/min and an Index of Hemolysis of <0.004 g/100 l. The pump-bearing life expectancy was over 5 years. To date, eight pumps endured in vivo studies of over 3 months without complications, including thromboembolic events. The in vitro endurance studies of eight pumps are longer than 1 year. There were no mechanical malfunctions or pump failure. A stepwise clinical trial is being planned: Step1, a wearable BVAD/VAD will be clinically studied; Step 2, the BVAD/VAD will be implanted intracorporeally without TETS; and, Step 3, a totally implantable system will be clinically evaluated.
