PREPARATION OF TRITIATED α-MELANOTROPIN WITH HIGH SPECIFIC RADIOACTIVITY

α-Metanotropin (α-MSH) was iodinated and 3,5-diiodotyr² -α-MSH was isolated by reverse phase high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Catalytic dehalogenation of the diiodo derivative in the presence of tritium resulted in the formation of 3,5-ditritiotyr² -α-MSH. The tritiated peptide was purified by ion exchange and partition chromatography. The radioactive peptide was found to be homogeneous and identical to α-MSH by paper electrophoresis and HPLC. The tritiated α-MSH stimulated lipolysis in rabbit adipocytes nearly as well as α-MSH. The specific radioactivity of tritiated α-MSH was 42 Ci/mmol or 73% of the theoretical value.     

BLACK PIGMENT STONE IN A MALE CHILD AGED TWO YEARS AND SEVEN MONTHS

A case of cholelithiasis is reported occurring in a boy aged two years and seven months. The patient presented with biliary colic, and cholecystectomy was performed. Detailed analysis of the stone, including electron-probe studies, showed it to be an example of a polybilirubinate stone, containing also calcium, carbonate, and phosphate, with some sulphur, sodium, and magnesium. There were also traces of chlorine, aluminium, copper, nickel, and manganese.     

ABNORMAL VITAMIN D METABOLISM IN PAGET''S DISEASE OF BONE

We have studied several biochemical indices of bone turnover and vitamin D metabolism in 32 untreated patients with Paget's disease and in 32 age-matched control subjects. patients with Paget's disease, as expected, were characterized by high bone turnover, as judged by alkaline phosphatase and urinary excretion of hydorxyproline. Serum values of 24,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (24,25(OH)2D3) and the ratio of 24,25(OH)2D3 to 25-OHD were significantly lower in patients than in control subjects. Serum concentrations of 1,25(OH)2D3 were normal in Paget's disease. The distribution of values for 24,25(OH)2D3 was log normal. On the basis of the normal range computed from control subjects, patients were divided into those with low or normal values for 24,25(OH)2D3. Disease activity, as judged by biochemical indices was significantly higher in the patients with the lower values of 24,25(OH)2D3. We conclude that Paget's disease is characterized by low circulating concentrations of 24,25(OH)2D3, particularly in patients with more extensive or severe disease.     

疑似听觉处理障碍儿童案例研究

目的本文介绍了中枢听觉功能测试方法，探讨了对听觉处理障碍儿童的诊断和处理原则。方法选择3例疑似听觉处理障碍儿童作为研究案例，进行系统的听力学，教育心理学、言语病理学测试和听觉中枢处理评估。结果在随机间隔探测测试和空间噪音听力测试（Iistening in spatializecl noise test，LISN）中，得分低于同龄组的平均值超过5个标准差；高一提示信号的LISN测试结果显示，数值低于平均值超过2个标准差。结论中枢听觉处理测试序列说明此3例儿童存在双耳听觉处理缺陷。通过改善教室的信噪比，应用听觉闭合训练、听觉定位和辨别训练，加强语言处理技能训练，能够使这3名儿童受益。
