The self-assembly of proteins is crucial in many biomedical applications. This work deals with understanding the role of cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) on the self-assembly of two different proteins present in the serum – BSA and hemoglobin and to elucidate the process associated with the direct application of physical plasma on or in the human (or animal) body, which has implications in therapeutics. The work has been corroborated by several spectroscopic studies such as fluorescence spectroscopy, circular dichroism spectroscopy, and SEM analysis. Through steady-state fluorescence spectroscopy and by following the tryptophan fluorescence, we observed that the emission intensity was quenched for the protein when treated with plasma radiation. Circular dichroism spectroscopy revealed that the structure of the protein was altered both in the case of BSA and hemoglobin. N-Acetyl tryptophanamide (NATA), which resembles the tryptophan in the protein, was treated with CAP and we observed the similar quenching of fluorescence as in the proteins, indicating that the protein underwent self-assembly. Time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy with a decrease in the lifetime revealed that the protein self-assembly was promoted with CAP treatment, which was also substantiated by SEM micrographs. The ROS/RNS produced in the CAP has been correlated with the protein self-assembly. This work will help to design protein self-assembled systems, and in the future, may bring possibilities of creating novel biomaterials with the help of plasma radiation.

The present review covers advancement in the area of C–H functionalization on triazole rings, by utilizing various substrates with palladium or copper as catalysts, and resulting in the development of various substituted 1,2,3- and 1,2,4-triazoles. Synthesis of these substituted compounds is necessary from the perspective of pharmaceutical, medicinal, and materials chemistry.

After short-term (7-day) space flights the following parameters were measured in blood of cosmonauts: cortisol, ACTH, aldosterone, thyrotropic hormone, thyroxine, triiodothyronine, somatotropic hormone, insulin, testosterone, cyclic nucleotides, prostaglandins, activities of the kallikrein-kinin, fibrinolytic and coagulatory systems, and plasma renin activity; in addition, renal excretion of aldosterone and total 17-oxycorticosteroids was determined. It was demonstrated that after the short-term flights the acute period of adaptation was accompanied by a moderate activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, adrenal glucocorticoid function, pancreatic insular apparatus, kallikrein-kinin system as well as increased cyclic AMP which is suggestive of a moderately expressed stress-reaction.  相似文献

Movement disorders in Japanese encephalitis (JE), although reported, have not been analyzed systematically. In this study, we report an analysis of movement disorders in 14 out of 17 JE patients, correlated with the radiological findings. All patients had at least a four fold rise of IgG antibodies against JE in a haemagglutination inhibition test. The patients’ ages ranged between 2 and 54 years and 4 of them were women. Extrapyramidal signs, such as hypokinesia, hypophonia and masking of the face, were present in all patients by the first month as the patients came out of the coma – except for 1 patient. Eight patients had axial and 3 tongue dyskinesia; rigidity was present in 6 and tremor in 2 patients. At 3 months, these symptoms improved considerably in 6 patients. Cranial CT scan revealed thalamic involvement in 10, which was bilateral in 9 patients. Two patients had brain stem and one had cerebellar involvement. Cranial MRI was carried out in 9 patients and revealed additional findings in lentiform nucleus, midbrain and pons in 3 each and cerebellum in 4 patients. Bilateral thalamic involvement on MRI was seen in all the patients, including two patients whose CT scans were normal. SPECT studies using 99mTc-ECD revealed bilateral thalamic hypoperfusion in all (n = 7) and frontal hypoperfusion in 3 patients. In JE, movement disorders are common and may be due to thalamic involvement in isolation or in combination with basal ganglia or midbrain or both. Thyrotrophin, thyroxine, triiodothyronine, and reverse triiodothyronine were measured in plasma and thyroxine and triiodothyronine in the thyroid gland of the rats flown for 18.5 days onboard Cosmos-1129. Postflight the plasma content of thyrotrophin and triiodothyronine increased and that of thyroxine decreased and the gland content of thyroxine and triiodothyronine diminished. It is postulated that in the flight animals the functional activity of the thyroid gland declined.  相似文献
