Uterine smooth-muscle tumors are not easy to classify. We report a case of uterine smooth-muscle tumor of uncertain malignant potential, which metastasized to retroperitoneal leiomyosarcoma in the left obturator cavity. 相似文献

Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) promotes neurogenesis in the adult hippocampus, but the way in which this process occurs in the Alzheimer's disease (AD) brain is still unknown. We examined the proliferation of neuronal precursors with an ex vivo approach, using encapsulated VEGF secreting cells, in AβPP/PS1 mice, a mouse model of AD. Overexpression of VEGF and VEGF receptor flk-1 was observed in the cerebral cortex from VEGF microcapsules-treated AβPP/PS1 mice at 1, 3 and 6 months after VEGF-microcapsule implantation. Stereological counting of 5-bromodeoxyuridine positive cells revealed that encapsulated VEGF secreting cells significantly enhanced cellular proliferation in the hippocampal dentate gyrus (DG). The number of neuronal precursors in VEGF microcapsules-treated AβPP/PS1 mice was also greater, and this effect remains after 6 months. We also confirmed that encapsulated VEGF secreting cells also stimulated angiogenesis in the cerebral cortex and hippocampal dentate gyrus. In addition, we found that VEGF-microcapsule treatment was associated with a depressed expression and activity of acetylcholinesterase in the hippocampus of AβPP/PS1 mice, a similar pattern as first-line medications for the treatment of AD. We conclude that stereologically-implanted VEGF-microcapsules exert an acute and long-standing neurotrophic effects, and could be utilized to improve potential therapies to control the progression of AD. 相似文献

Objective
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of antibiotic lock therapy to treat port-related enterococci, Gram-negative, or Gram-positive bacilli bloodstream infections.Patients and Methods
We conducted a prospective observational study including all patients with port-related bacteremia diagnosed at the Clinica Universitaria de Navarra, Pamplona, Spain. During a 36-month period, 110 patients were diagnosed with port-related bacteremia. Of these patients, 18 met criteria to be enrolled in the study. They were treated with a combination of systemic and antibiotic lock therapy (12–24 h/day during 7–14 days). Treatment effectiveness was assessed by clinical and microbiologic criteria. Results
Treatment was associated with clinical and microbiologic success in 88.8% of our patients (2/2 of the Propionibacterium acnes, 5/5 of the Corynebacterium spp., 6/7 of the Gram-negative bacillus, and 3/4 of the Enterococcus faecium port-related bloodstream infections). Mean increase of port life span for all patients after bacteremia was 288 days (range, 0–1403 days). Conclusion
Antibiotic lock therapy combined with systemic antibiotics appears to be a safe and effective treatment of port-related bacteremia caused by enterococci, Gram-negative, or Gram-positive bacilli if the patient is stable and no septic syndrome is associated. 相似文献48.

We report two cases of uterine papillary serous carcinoma in endometrial polyps, which were diagnosed and treated in Donostia Hospital in San Sebastián, Spain. Although the tumors were classified as early stage, both patients suffered disease relapse and progression. 相似文献

Introduction
The peri-implant sulcus is a good niche for infectious colonization such as Candida spp. In this study, the level of Candida spp. fungal colonization is analyzed in patients with peri-implantitis under supportive peri-implant therapy, as well as its correlation with the main clinicopathological data. Methods
A case–control study was carried out on 161 patients treated with dental implants, 80 with PI and 81 without PI, which corresponded to 91 women and 70 men, whose mean age was 60.90 years. A specific protocol was completed for the clinical and implant data. Microbiological samples were taken by oral rinse and with paper tips from the peri-implant sulcus. For the quantitative and qualitative analysis Candida Chromogenic Agar/CONDA plates were incubated for 72 h at 36 + 1°C. Fungal growth was considered active when having more than 50 CFU. Specific Candida spp. cultures were later confirmed by API ID 32C and PCR.Results
Fungal growth was achieved in 28% of oral rinse and 6.75% of peri-implant fluid samples. No significant differences were recognized between study groups. Most of the cultures (>65%) showed more than 50 CFU. The most frequent species were Candida albicans and Candida parapsilosis. There was no association between different PI risk factors and fungal data. The presence of Candida spp. in the oral cavity of patients with dental implants was related to total edentulism and the use of implant-fixed complete prosthesis implant-retained removable prosthesis. Conclusions
These results suggest that there is no link between PI and presence of Candida in patients with dental implants undergoing regular supportive periodontal therapy. 相似文献50.
