A variety of therapeutic modalities, from implant to conventional Maryland prosthesis, can be used for the replacement of a missing anterior tooth. In patients refusing implant treatment, when minimal teeth reduction is preferred, a fibre reinforced composite (FRC) prosthesis can be a good alternative to conventional prosthetic techniques. The purpose of this case report is to describe the clinical procedure for fabricating hybrid type FRC prosthesis with pre-impregnated unidirectional E-glass fibres. Fibre-reinforced composite, in combination with adhesive technology, appears promising treatment option for replacing missing teeth. However, further clinical investigation will be required to provide additional information on this technique. 相似文献

It is of great significance to design electrochemical energy conversion and storage materials with excellent performance to fulfill the growing energy demand. Bimetallic cobalt/nickel-based electrode materials exhibit excellent electrical conductivity compared to mono oxides. However, their potential as electrode materials for high-performance supercapacitors (SCs) is limited because of their poor cycling stability and high-capacity fading. This work demonstrates the synthesis of binder-free bimetallic NiCo2O4 nano-needles supported on CC (NCO@CC) via a facile and scalable hydrothermal process. Excellent electrical conductivity and interconnected nanostructure of NCO@CC nano-needles provide the fast transfer of electrons with numerous channels for ion diffusion. Owing to such features, the binder-free NCO@CC electrode for SC discloses excellent specific capacitance (1476 Fg−1 at 1.5 Ag−1) with 94.25% capacitance retention even after 5000 cycles. From these outstanding electrochemical performances, it can be inferred that NCO@CC nano-needle array-structured electrodes may be potential candidates for SC applications. 相似文献

AIM: The aim of this study was to determine the static load-bearing capacity of composite resin onlay restorations made of particulate filler composite (PFC) with two different types of fiber-reinforced composite (FRC) substructures. In addition, flexural properties of the material combination and the effect of polymerization devices were tested. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Specimens were prepared to simulate an onlay restoration, which consisted of 2 to 3 mm of FRC layer as a substructure (short random and continuous bidirectional fiber orientation) and a 1 mm surface layer of PFC. Control specimens were prepared from plain PFC. In Group A the specimens were incrementally polymerized only with a hand-light curing unit for 40 s, while in Group B the specimens were post-cured in a light-curing oven for 15 min before they were statically loaded with a steel ball. Bar-shaped test specimens were prepared to measure the flexural properties of material combination using a three-point bending test (ISO 10477). RESULTS: Analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed all specimens with a FRC substructure have higher values of static load-bearing capacity and flexural properties than those obtained with plain PFC (p<0.001). CONCLUSION: The load-bearing capacity of all the specimens decreased after post-curing and water storage. Restorations made from a material combination of FRC and PFC showed better mechanical properties than those obtained with plain PFC. 相似文献

OBJECTIVES: Longevity of particulate filler resin (PFR) is controversial for large restorations with high occlusal-stresses. The aim of this study was to reinforce PFR with fiber reinforced composite (FRC) and to evaluate the effect of thickness of FRC substructure and thickness of overlaying PFR, on the static load-bearing capacity of the material combination. METHODS: A total of 336 test specimens having a FRC substructure (short random or continuous bidirectional fibre orientation) and layer of restorative PFR were prepared for this study. In Group A, the specimens contained short random oriented fibres (length: 2-3mm) and in Group B, there were continuous bidirectionally oriented fibres. The specimens (n = 12/group) were polymerized with a hand light-curing unit and were either dry-stored or thermocycled before they were statically loaded with a steel ball until fracture, using a universal testing machine. RESULTS: Increase the volume fraction of the short random FRC versus the fraction of PFR, the load-bearing capacity of the specimen increased (p < 0.001). Short random FRC revealed significantly different behavior than the bidirectionally oriented FRC (p < 0.001). By combining the FRC layer of 0.5mm in thickness with a layer of 2.5mm of PFR gave load values of 1462N and 1196N, which were considerably higher than values for plain PFR of 3mm in thickness (782N and 729N). CONCLUSION: The results suggest that by adding a FRC substructure under the PFR, the load-bearing capacity of the material combination was increased. 相似文献

The aim of the study was to determine the static load-bearing capacity of fractured incisal teeth restored with the conventional adhesive-composite technique or by using fiber reinforced composites (FRC). Upper incisal teeth were prepared by cutting the incisal part of the crown horizontally. Restorations were made by three techniques. Group A (control group) was restored by reattaching the original incisal edge to the tooth. Group B was restored using composite resin. Group C was restored with composite and FRC. Restored teeth were statically loaded until fracture. Results suggest that an incisally fractured tooth restored with a combination of composite resin and FRC-structure provide the highest load bearing capacity. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: The incidence of chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) is high worldwide but increasing occurrence of complications appear peculiar to West Africa. However, knowledge of associated risk factors is sparse, we report the sociodemographic risk factors of CSOM with the aim of control of the disease and complications; and possible preventive strategies. METHOD: This is a survey of children with CSOM in five sites spread in two suburban cities in two states in Nigeria. Questionnaire was administered on the informants followed by examination of the children. RESULT: Of the 189 children, 114 (60%) had developed ear suppuration before 6 months of age, the number of attacks within the previous 18 months ranged between 2-12 with average of 7. Sociodemographic risk factors included low socioeconomic class in 153 (81%), 136 (72%) live in congested houses with more than 10 people and 79 (42%) belonged to families with more than 5 children. Indoor-cooking and infant daycare attendance were 117 (62%) while supine bottlefeeding was 115 (61%) and 34 (18%) of subjects had smoking father. The clinical risk factors were upper respiratory tract infection (URI) 85 (45%), allergy 53 (28%), adenoid 54 (28%) and malnutrition 65 (34%). The univariate analysis revealed that low social class (OR=7.33, CI=4.18-12.83, P=0.0001), malnutrition (OR=3.57, CI=1.88-6.76, P=0.00001), bottlefeeding (OR=2.93, CI=1.63-5.28, P=0.0001), indoor-cooking (OR=1.35, CI=0.88-2.10, P=0.161) and high number of people in a household (OR=0.59, CI=0.34-0.98, P=0.04) are significant in development of OM; while multivariate logistic regression analysis showed malnutrition (OR=3.48, CI=1.633-7.425, P=0.001), low social status (OR=7.74, CI=4.15-14.43, P=0.0001) and indoor-cooking (OR=2.34, CI=1.18-4.66, P=0.014), second table. Parental smoking, daycare attendance, allergy, adenoiditis/adenoidal hypertrophy and upper respiratory tract infection were not found significant. CONCLUSION: Low socioeconomic class, malnutrition, congestion from high number of children in the household and bottlefeeding constitute significant risk factor. The early onset of disease (<6 months) may suggest a prenatal predisposition. We need further research for the understanding of the biologic effect of these factors while this remains a database for prevention and control of disease. 相似文献

There are limited recommendations for fasting in many chronic diseases such as adrenal insufficiency (AI). Research in such situations highlights potential for complications and need for education for patients with AI undertaking fasting during Ramadan. This article aimed to provide up-to-date guidance for healthcare professionals to educate, discuss and manage patients with AI who are considering fasting in Ramadan and is religiously compatible. Latest guidance on this topic and the evidence base for steroid dosing are reviewed and discussed. Risk stratification for patients with AI and optimal strategies for management, including steroid dosing, are detailed. Our review highlights that patients with AI wishing to fast should undergo a thorough risk assessment ideally several months before Ramadan. ‘High risk’ and ‘Very high risk’ patients should be encouraged to explore alternative options to fasting discussed below. Prior to the commencement of Ramadan, all patients must receive up-to-date education on sick day rules, instructions on when to terminate their fast or abstain from fasting, carry steroid warning information and must have a valid intramuscular (IM) hydrocortisone pack and know how to administer this. Switching patients with AI desiring to fast from multiple daily hydrocortisone replacement to prednisolone 5 mg once daily at dawn (during Suhoor or Sehri) is recommended and discussed. Patients on fludrocortisone for AI should be advised to take their total dose at dawn. We provide practically relevant case-based scenarios to help with the application of this guidance. Future efforts need to focus on healthcare professional awareness and further research in this setting. 相似文献
