The aim of this work was to validate the gas chromatography/combustion/isotope ratio mass spectrometry method in Havana Antidoping Laboratory and verify its implementation with a study of the Cuban population. The method was precise and accurate inside the linear working range; the limit of quantification and the uncertainty were compliant with TD2019IRMS. The study of the Cuban population showed no differences in δ13C values between females and males. Only three values of Δδ13C showed significant differences between sexes (PD‐T, OHA‐T, and 11‐keto‐Et‐T). The values of δ13C between ?17.8‰ and ?21.2‰ (upper and lower limits based on normal distribution) were consistent with other populations where C4 plant derivatives prevail in the diet. 相似文献
Statement of problemRemovable partial dentures (RPDs) are traditionally made by casting, a complex, error-prone, and time-consuming process. Computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) RPD systems may simplify the clinical steps and minimize errors; however, the accuracy of CAD-CAM RPD systems is unclear.PurposeThe purpose of this systematic review was to determine whether CAD-CAM systems are accurate for the manufacturing of RPD frameworks.Material and methodsA literature search was conducted through Medline-PubMed, Scopus, Lilacs, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases using specific keywords for articles published up to November 2019. Three reviewers obtained data and compared the results. All studies evaluated the framework accuracy or fit of prostheses fabricated with conventional and digital techniques.ResultsA total of 7 articles, 2 clinical studies, and 5 in vitro studies that complied with the inclusion criteria were evaluated. One in vitro study compared indirect (extraoral) and direct (intraoral) scanning for partially edentulous ridges and shows that digital scans were better than conventional impressions in terms of trueness. In the other studies included, although the frameworks analyzed had clinically acceptable discrepancies (<311 μm), the material influenced the fit. Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) showed better fit than traditional metal cast RPDs. Co-Cr alloy RPDs produced by rapid prototyping exhibited the highest discrepancies when produced by sintering laser melting.ConclusionsThe results show that the digital technique for RPD frameworks is accurate. In the studies included, the analyzed frameworks had clinically acceptable gaps, but the results were heterogeneous among studies because the articles used different measurement methods with small sample sizes. Few studies discussed the long-term clinical performance. The digital technique for RPD frameworks was accurate because the misfits and mismatches found in in vitro and clinical studies were within the acceptable clinical limit for RPDs. 相似文献

To compare the efficacy and safety of diode laser and electrocautery techniques for inflammatory fibrous hyperplasia (IFH) removal.
Materials and methods
In this randomized double-blind clinical trial, 40 individuals were randomly allocated to two groups: group 1 (G1) consisted of 20 individuals assigned to treatment with diode laser and group 2 (G2) consisted of 20 individuals assigned to treatment with electrocautery. The following transoperative parameters were evaluated: bleeding, temperature, and surgical technique parameters (energy deposited on tissue, flow rate, and time of incision). The postoperative parameters evaluated were as follows: pain, functional alterations (chewing, speaking), analgesic medication intake, swelling, healing of the wound area, and patient satisfaction.
Results
Among the 40 individuals included in the study, four (two in G1 and two in G2) did not complete the entire follow-up. Therefore, 36 individuals (18 in G1 and 18 in G2) participated. Participants in G1 and in G2 had similar demographic characteristics. No difference regarding the trans- or postoperative parameters evaluated was observed between G1 and G2 (p > 0.05). Also, no difference regarding the time for healing was observed between groups.
Conclusions
Diode laser seems to be as effective and safe as electrocautery when applied under similar conditions for IFH removal.
Clinical relevance
IFH corresponds to 65% of the lesions observed in denture wearers. This study shows that under similar conditions diode laser is as effective and safe as electrocautery for removal of IFH.
Meckel's diverticulum (MD) is a persistent embryonic remnant occurring in 2% of the general population. This entity is usually clinically silent and is only discovered when complications occur. Diagnosis is rarely made preoperatively. Surgical resection of symptomatic MD is widely accepted but the most appropriate management of asymptomatic MD remains unclear. We present a case of MD that summarizes some of the complications that may occur. The peculiarity of this case was that the complications were caused by a leiomyoma. The presence of tumoral disease in MD accounts for 3.2% of complications. The most common neoplasm is carcinoid tumor. Few publications have reported benign neoplasms in MD, probably due to their low incidence. 相似文献
Purpose : This study involved an extensive search for randomized controlled clinical trials comparing bilateral balanced and canine‐guided dentures, and questioned whether a bilateral balanced occlusion is imperative for successful denture treatment. Materials and Methods : Studies were identified by searching electronic databases (PubMed/MEDLINE, ISI Web of Science, LILACS, and BBD). The keywords “denture” and “occlusion” were used. The minimum inclusion requirements were (1) randomized controlled trials with patients of any age wearing both maxillary and mandibular conventional complete dentures (CDs), (2) comparison between bilateral balanced and canine‐guided dentures, and (3) assessment of masticatory function and/or patients’ satisfaction. Results : The search resulted in the identification of 5166 articles. Subsequently, 5156 articles were excluded on the basis of title and abstract. By the end of the search phase, seven randomized controlled trials were considered eligible. Conclusions : Current scientific evidence suggests that bilateral balanced occlusion is not imperative for successful treatment with conventional CDs in average patients. More studies are necessary to identify if specific clinical conditions may benefit from a balanced occlusion. 相似文献
Purpose: the aim of this study was to evaluate the use of physical therapy and anesthetic blockage of the auriculotemporal nerve as a treatment for temporomandibular joint disorders.
Methods: the sample comprised of twenty patients with a diagnosis of disc displacement with/ without reduction and arthralgia according to the Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (RDC/TMD Axis I Group IIa, IIb and IIIa). Ten patients (group 1) underwent a cycle of eight anesthetic blockages of the auriculotemporal nerve with injections (1 per week) of 1 ml of bupivacaine 0.5% without vasoconstrictor for 8 weeks. The other 10 patients (group 2) received anesthetic blockage and physical therapy (massage and muscular stretching exercises). After the end of treatment all patients were evaluated at baseline, 1st week, 4th week and 2 months. The t-Student and F (ANOVA) tests were used for statistical analysis, with a significance rate of 5%.
Results: there was a significant difference when both groups were compared according to VAS score (p=0.027). There was no significant difference for the other variables: MMO and jaw protrusion.
Conclusion: the anesthetic blockage and physical therapy, when used together, are effective in the reduction of pain in patients with TMD.
