Paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM) is caused by the dimorphic fungus
Paracoccidioides brasiliensis (Pb) and corresponds to prevalent
systemic mycosis in Latin America. The aim of the present work was to evaluate the
dose response effect of the fungal yeast phase for the standardization of an
experimental model of septic arthritis. The experiments were performed with groups of
14 rats that received doses of 103, 104 or 105
P. brasiliensis (Pb18) cells. The fungi were injected in 50 µL of
phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) directly into the knee joints of the animals. The
following parameters were analyzed in this work: the formation of swelling in knees
infused with yeast cells and the radiological and anatomopathological alterations,
besides antibody titer by ELISA. After 15 days of infection, signs of inflammation
were evident. At 45 days, some features of damage and necrosis were observed in the
articular cartilage. The systemic dissemination of the fungus was observed in 11% of
the inoculated animals, and it was concluded that the experimental model is able to
mimic articular PCM in humans and that the dose of 105 yeast cells can be

Our purpose was to compare the accuracy and reliability of linear measurements for Le Fort I osteotomy using volume rendering software. We studied 11 dried skulls and used cone-beam computed tomography (CT) to generate 3-dimensional images. Linear measurements were based on craniometric anatomical landmarks that were predefined as specifically used for Le Fort I osteotomy, and identified twice each by 2 radiologists, independently, using Dolphin imaging version 11.5.04.35. A third examiner then made physical measurements using digital calipers. There was a significant difference between Dolphin imaging and the gold standard, particularly in the pterygoid process. The largest difference was 1.85 mm (LLpPtg L). The mean differences between the physical and the 3-dimensional linear measurements ranged from −0.01 to 1.12 mm for examiner 1, and 0 to 1.85 mm for examiner 2. Interexaminer analysis ranged from 0.51 to 0.93. Intraexaminer correlation coefficients ranged from 0.81 to 0.96 and 0.57 to 0.92, for examiners 1 and 2, respectively. The aim of this study is to describe the use of an intraoral assistive technology for a patient with idiopathic generalized muscular dystonia, presenting temporomandibular disorder and severe anterior tooth mobility and diastema. A multidisciplinary team developed an intraoral device to provide typing and painting functions, and promote relaxation of masticatory muscles without compromising the teeth and supporting tissue structures. The occlusal splint associated with the device promoted muscle relaxation and relief of the signs and symptoms of temporomandibular dysfunction, in this case with generalized muscle dystonia, allowing typing and painting with her mouth without causing tooth mobility or occlusal alteration. This intraoral device has low cost, easy adaptation and was efficient in TMD symptoms. Furthermore, the patient returned to her rehabilitation allowing performance of her duties without compromising dental structures, facilitating the social and the digital inclusion. 相似文献

Type 2 deiodinase (D2) converts the prohormone thyroxine (T4) to the metabolically active molecule 3,5,3′-triiodothyronine (T3), but its global inactivation unexpectedly lowers the respiratory exchange rate (respiratory quotient [RQ]) and decreases food intake. Here we used FloxD2 mice to generate systemically euthyroid fat-specific (FAT), astrocyte-specific (ASTRO), or skeletal-muscle-specific (SKM) D2 knockout (D2KO) mice that were monitored continuously. The ASTRO-D2KO mice also exhibited lower diurnal RQ and greater contribution of fatty acid oxidation to energy expenditure, but no differences in food intake were observed. In contrast, the FAT-D2KO mouse exhibited sustained (24 h) increase in RQ values, increased food intake, tolerance to glucose, and sensitivity to insulin, all supporting greater contribution of carbohydrate oxidation to energy expenditure. Furthermore, FAT-D2KO animals that were kept on a high-fat diet for 8 weeks gained more body weight and fat, indicating impaired brown adipose tissue (BAT) thermogenesis and/or inability to oxidize the fat excess. Acclimatization of FAT-D2KO mice at thermoneutrality dissipated both features of this phenotype. Muscle D2 does not seem to play a significant metabolic role given that SKM-D2KO animals exhibited no phenotype. The present findings are unique in that they were obtained in systemically euthyroid animals, revealing that brain D2 plays a dominant albeit indirect role in fatty acid oxidation via its sympathetic control of BAT activity. The national emission ceilings (NEC) Directive was implemented to contribute to the reduction of transboundary air pollutions impacts, limiting emissions of acidifying and eutrophication pollutants as well as ozone precursors. It was first adopted by the European Commission (EC) in 2001 (Directive 2001/81/EC) covering four pollutants (NOx, SO2, NH3 and NMVOC). Under the scope of the clean air programme for Europe, which established the air policy objectives for 2020 and 2030, a new NEC was adopted (Directive 2016/2284/EU) establishing more strict ceilings for those pollutants and adding as well PM2.5. The objective of this paper is to analyse the evolution of the Portuguese national emissions and the compliance of NEC Directive in 2010 and to foresee if the new ceilings for 2030 will be fulfilled. The emission inventories reported to the EC show that emissions in Portugal presented a consistent decreasing trend for all pollutants from 2000 to 2014, and a slight increase in 2015. The 2010 targets were achieved with measures implemented at the time (particularly on the energy, industrial combustion and transport sectors) which allowed Portugal to even surpass the defined goals. The emission projections for 2030, however, reveal that necessary emission reductions for all pollutants could be attained only if measures of the most demanding scenarios are implemented. Therefore, an integrated strategy should be designed and implemented aiming to not only fulfil the NEC in 2030 but also guarantee a better air quality with the highest cost-benefit for the environment and health. 相似文献
