A series of ruthenium(ii) complexes with N-heterocyclic carbene ligands were successfully synthesized by transmetalation reactions between silver(i) N-heterocyclic carbene complexes and [RuCl2(p-cymene)]2 in dichloromethane under Ar conditions. All new compounds were characterized by spectroscopic and analytical methods. These ruthenium(ii)–NHC complexes were found to be efficient precatalysts for the transfer hydrogenation of ketones by using 2-propanol as the hydrogen source in the presence of KOH as a co-catalyst. The antibacterial activity of ruthenium N-heterocyclic carbene complexes 3a–f was measured by disc diffusion method against Gram positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Compounds 3d exhibited potential antibacterial activity against five bacterial species among the six used as indicator cells. The product 3e inhibits the growth of all the six tested microorganisms. Moreover, the antioxidant activity determination of these complexes 3a–f, using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2′-azinobis-3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid (ABTS) as reagent, showed that compounds 3b and 3d possess DPPH and ABTS antiradical activities. From a concentration of 1 mg ml−1, these two complexes presented a similar scavenging activity to that of the two used controls gallic acid (GA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT). From a concentration of 10 mg ml−1, the percentage inhibition of complexes 3b and 3d was respectively 70% and 90%. In addition, these two Ru–NHC complexes exhibited antifungal activity against Candida albicans. Investigation of the anti-acetylcholinesterase activity of the studied complexes showed that compounds 3a, 3b, 3d and 3e exhibited good activity at 100 μg ml−1 and product 3d is the most active. In a cytotoxicity study the complexes 3 were evaluated against two human cancer cell lines MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7. A simple wet-chemical technique was used to prepare zinc oxide-doped vanadium pentaoxide nanorods (ZnO·V2O5 NRs) in an alkaline environment. The synthesized ZnO·V2O5 NRs were characterized using typical methods, including UV-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (XEDS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). The d-glucose (d-GLC) sensor was fabricated with modification of a slight coating of nanorods (NRs) onto a flat glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The analytical performances, such as the sensitivity, limit of quantification (LOQ), limit of detection (LOD), linear dynamic range (LDR), and durability, of the proposed d-GLC sensor were acquired by a dependable current–voltage (I–V) process. A calibration curve of the GCE/ZnO·V2O5 NRs/Nf sensor was plotted at +1.0 V over a broad range of d-GLC concentrations (100.0 pM–100.0 mM) and found to be linear (R2 = 0.6974). The sensitivity (1.27 × 10−3 μA μM−1 cm−2), LOQ (417.5 mM), and LOD (125 250 μM) were calculated from the calibration curve. The LDR (1.0 μM–1000 μM) was derived from the calibration plot and was also found to be linear (R2 = 0.9492). The preparation of ZnO·V2O5 NRs by a wet-chemical technique is a good advancement for the expansion of nanomaterial-based sensors to support enzyme-free sensing of biomolecules in healthcare fields. Introduction: Arterial stiffness is important in the evaluation of the cardiovascular risk in both general population and hypertensive patients. In this study, we aimed to investigate the associations of both serum cystatin C levels and albuminuria with arterial stiffness in healthy controls and hypertensive patients.Patients and methods: Seventy-six healthy controls (male/female?=?44/32) and 76 hypertensive patients (male/female?=?43/33) were enrolled. Arterial stiffness parameters such as augmentation index (AIx) and pulse wave velocity (PWV) were non-invasively measured with the Arteriograph (Tensiomed Ltd., Budapest, Hungary).Results: AIx (31.92?±?14.31 vs. 27.95?±?11.03, p?=?0.03) and PWV (9.84?±?1.62 vs. 8.87?±?2.04, p?0.001) were significantly higher in hypertensive patients compared to healthy controls. Patients with microalbuminuria had significantly higher AIx (43.47?±?9.91 vs. 30.37?±?14.13, p?=?0.002) and higher serum cystatin C levels [0.76 (0.67–0.95) vs. 0.68 (0.62–0.78) mg/L, p?=?0.03]. In the hypertensive group, AIx was significantly correlated with PWV (r?=?0.519, p?0.001), glomerular filtration rate (cystatin C) (r?=?–0.438, p?=?0.003), mean arterial pressure (MAP) (r?=?0.288, p?=?0.015) and urinary albumin–creatinine ratio (ACR) (r?=?0.386, p?=?0.004). PWV was associated with serum cystatin C (r?=?0.442, p?=?0.003) and MAP (r?=?0.377, p?=?0.001). In the linear regression analysis (model r?=?0.577, p?=?0.006) for the prediction of PWV in hypertensive patients, MAP, urinary ACR, age and serum cystatin C levels were included as independent variables. Cystatin C was found to be the significant determinant of PWV in hypertensive patients.Conclusion: Multivariate analysis revealed that serum cystatin C but not albuminuria was significantly associated with PWV in hypertensive patients. The gene SLC2A2 encodes GLUT2, which is found predominantly in pancreas, liver, kidney and intestine. In mice, GLUT2 is the major glucose transporter into pancreatic beta cells, and biallelic Slc2a2 inactivation causes lethal neonatal diabetes. The role of GLUT2 in human beta cells is controversial, and biallelic SLC2A2 mutations cause Fanconi–Bickel syndrome (FBS), with diabetes rarely reported. ObjectiveSerum lipoprotein is the most important predictor for microvascular diseases, and may be influenced by rapid urbanization. Currently available data are limited, particularly regarding age-specific lipoprotein status in urban Bangladeshi populations.MethodsBlood lipoprotein levels of 51,353 male and female individuals primarily residing in urban Bangladesh were analyzed. De-identified data (collected between January 2005 and December 2011) were extracted from the Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory Data Archive of International Centre for Diarrheal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b). For analyses, six age categories were created: (i) <20 years, n = 481; (ii) 20–29 years, n = 1602; (iii) 30–39 years, n = 7272; (iv) 40–49 years, n = 13,582; (v) 50–59 years, n = 15,890; and (vi) 60 years and more, n = 12,526.ResultsMean serum levels of TC, LDL, TG, LDL:HDL and TC:HDL were significantly higher among adults 30–39 years old compared to other age groups, regardless of sex. The proportion of high TC and LDL from 2005 to 2011 among individuals aged 30–39 years old varied widely (p < 0.01 for trend and all pairwise tests).Conclusion30–39 years old individuals had higher concentration of lipoprotein, which increases microvascular disease risk. Further population-based studies are needed to validate our observations in rural areas of Bangladesh. 相似文献
