A high rate of root exposure and consequently the exposure of the furcation area is usually observed in multirooted teeth. In maxillary molar teeth, this fact may endanger the three existent furcations (buccal, mesial and distal), causing serious problems. In this research, distance measures from the buccal furcation to the mesial (F1M) and distal (F1D) surfaces of the mesio-buccal and disto-buccal roots; from the mesial furcation to the buccal (F2B) and palatal (F2P) surfaces of the mesio-buccal and palatal roots and from the distal furcation to the buccal (F3B) and palatal (F3P) surfaces of the disto-buccal and palatal roots, respectively were established. One hundred maxillary first molar teeth were used, 50 of the right and 50 of the left side. Reference marks and demarcations were determined on the furcations and also on the root surfaces involved in the measures. We concluded that these measurements are important because they may effectivelly contribute to diagnosis, prevention and treatment of periodontal problems.  相似文献

Microbial susceptibility to calcium hydroxide pastes and their vehicles   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The aim of this study was to investigate the susceptibility of some microorganisms commonly isolated from root canals to calcium hydroxide in combination with several vehicles by the agar diffusion method. Stainless-steel cylinders were placed on each inoculated agar medium. The test medications and their controls were placed inside the cylinders. The zones of growth inhibition were measured and recorded after the incubation period for each plate, and the results were analyzed statistically. Enterococcus faecalis was most resistant, whereas the anaerobic Porphyromonas endodontalis was more susceptible to all medications, followed by P. gingivalis and Prevotella intermedial intermedia. Ca(OH)2 + CMCP + glycerin showed significantly larger mean zones of inhibition when compared with the other medications. We conclude that anaerobic Gram-negative bacteria are more susceptible to calcium hydroxide pastes than facultative Gram-positive microorganisms.  相似文献

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Two problems found in prostheses with soft liners are bond failure to the acrylic resin base and loss of elasticity due to material aging. PURPOSE: This in vitro study evaluated the effect of thermocycling on the bond strength and elasticity of 4 long-term soft denture liners to acrylic resin bases. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Four soft lining materials (Molloplast-B, Flexor, Permasoft, and Pro Tech) and 2 acrylic resins (Classico and Lucitone 199) were processed for testing according to manufacturers' instructions. Twenty rectangular specimens (10 x 10-mm(2) cross-sectional area) and twenty cylinder specimens (12.7-mm diameter x 19.0-mm height) for each liner/resin combination were used for the tensile and deformation tests, respectively. Specimen shape and liner thickness were standardized. Samples were divided into a test group that was thermocycled 3000 times and a control group that was stored for 24 hours in water at 37 degrees C. Mean bond strength, expressed in megapascals (MPa), was determined in the tensile test with the use of a universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 5 mm/min. Elasticity, expressed as percent of permanent deformation, was calculated with an instrument for measuring permanent deformation described in ADA/ANSI specification 18. Data from both tests were examined with 1-way analysis of variance and a Tukey test, with calculation of a Scheffé interval at a 95% confidence level. RESULTS: In the tensile test under control conditions, Molloplast-B (1.51 +/- 0.28 MPa [mean +/- SD]) and Pro Tech (1.44 +/- 0.27 MPa) liners had higher bond strength values than the others (P <.05). With regard to the permanent deformation test, the lowest values were observed for Molloplast-B (0.48% +/- 0.19%) and Flexor (0.44% +/- 0.14%) (P <.05). Under thermocycling conditions, the highest bond strength occurred with Molloplast-B (1.37 +/- 0.24 MPa) (P <.05). With regard to the deformation test, Flexor (0.46% +/- 0.13%) and Molloplast-B (0.44% +/- 0.17%) liners had lower deformation values than the others (P <.05). CONCLUSION: The results of this in vitro study indicated that bond strength and permanent deformity values of the 4 soft denture liners tested varied according to their chemical composition. These tests are not completely valid for application to dental restorations because the forces they encounter are more closely related to shear and tear. However, the above protocol serves as a good method of investigation to evaluate differences between thermocycled and control groups.  相似文献

AIM: To test, in vitro, the susceptibility to different antibiotics of Enterococcus faecalis isolates from canals of root filled teeth with periapical lesions. METHODOLOGY: Twenty-one E. faecalis isolates, from canals of root filled teeth with persisting periapical lesions, were tested for their antibiotic susceptibilities. The following antibiotics were used: benzylpenicillin, amoxicillin, amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, erythromycin, azithromycin, vancomycin, chloramphenicol, tetracycline, doxycycline, ciprofloxacin and moxifloxacin. Minimal inhibitory concentrations (MICs) for the antimicrobial agents were determined using the E-test System (AB BIODISK, Solna, Sweden), and the E. faecalis strains classified as susceptible or resistant according to the guidelines of National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS). The strains were also tested for beta-lactamase production with nitrocefin (Oxoid, Basingstoke, UK). RESULTS: All strains were susceptible to penicillins in vitro, however, the MICs of amoxicillin and amoxicillin-clavulanic acid (MIC(90) = 0.75 microg mL(-1)) were lower than for benzylpenicillin (MIC(90) = 3.0 microg mL(-1)). All strains studied were also susceptible to vancomycin and moxifloxacin, whilst 95.2% were susceptible to chloramphenicol. Amongst the isolates, 85.7% were susceptible to tetracycline and doxycycline and 80.9% to ciprofloxacin. The MIC of erythromycin ranged from 0.38 to >256 microg mL(-1); only 28.5% of the strains were susceptible (MIC < or = 0.5 microg mL(-1)). Limited susceptibility was also observed with azithromycin which was active against only 14.2% of isolates. No strains produced beta-lactamase. CONCLUSION: Enterococcus faecalis isolates were completely susceptible, in vitro, to amoxicillin, amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, vancomycin and moxifloxacin. Most isolates were susceptible to chloramphenicol, tetracycline, doxycycline or ciprofloxacin. Erythromycin and azithromycin were least effective.  相似文献

Sonic and ultrasonic root-end preparation devices permit the preparation of conservative and straight cavities. However, microfractures and marginal chipping can occur due to the vibratory action of such instruments. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of retrograde preparations by using sonic and ultrasonic tips on the integrity of root-end surfaces. Eighty, human anterior teeth were grouped according to size and treated as follows: treatment 1: root-end resection (RR) and root-end cavity preparation (RP) with KIS ultrasonic retrotip; treatment 2: RR and RP with Satelec S12/90 (no diamond coating) ultrasonic retrotip; treatment 3: RR and RP with a diamond-coated retrotip attached to a sonic device (Sonics); treatment 4: RR and RP with Satelec S12/90D (diamond coated) ultrasonic retrotip. The root-end surface topographies were assayed by means of polyvinylsiloxane impressions and epoxy resin replicas. SEM pictures of each sample were taken before and after preparation, and the images were evaluated by using an image processing and analysis system. The parameters evaluated were shape quality, presence of cracks, and marginal chipping. The results showed no statistically significant differences among anatomic groups, treatments, or tooth sizes (p > 0.05). Because treatment 3 removed more dental structure than the others did, its use on small teeth is inadvisable.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the displacement of teeth occurring in dentures following storage in water at a temperature of 37oC. Ten maxillary dentures were constructed with Classico heat-cured acrylic resin using conventional metal flasks. Metallic reference pins were placed on the incisal border of the central incisors (I), buccal cusp of the first premolars (PM), and mesiobuccal cusp of the second molars (M). The acrylic resin was polymerized twelve hours after final flask closure in a water cycle at 74oC for 9 hours. The flasks were removed from the thermo-curing unit after water cooling and then bench stored for 3 hours. After deflasking and finishing, the dentures were stored in water at a temperature of 37oC for periods of 7, 30, and 90 days. Following deflasking and each storage period tested, the I-I (incisor to incisor), PM-PM (premolar to premolar), and M-M (molar to molar) transverse distances, and LI-LM (left incisor to left molar) and RI-RM (right incisor to right molar) anteroposterior distances were measured with a STM Olympus microscope, with accuracy of 0.0005 mm. Colleted data were submitted to ANOVA and Tukey test (5%). No statistically significant difference was observed in the displacement of teeth in the transverse and anteroposterior distances.  相似文献

This work analyzed the histopathology and epidermal Langerhans cells (LC) of Montenegro skin test (MST) in patients with American tegumentary leishmaniasis (ATL) in order to in situ characterize and compare the immunological reaction of the two major clinical forms of ATL, localized cutaneous leishmaniasis (LCL) and mucocutaneous leishmaniasis (MCL). MST histopathology of both LCL and MCL showed superficial and deep perivascular inflammatory infiltrate composed mainly of lymphocytes and histiocytes. Epidermal LC population was higher in MST biopsies taken from LCL patients when compared to MCL group, at 48 and 72 hours after antigen inoculation. Increased number of epidermal LC displayed in MST biopsies of LCL patients represents specific cellular immunity against parasites. The decrease of LC in MST biopsies of MCL patients does not necessarily indicate a worse specific cellular immunity in this clinical form of leishmaniasis.  相似文献
