The major goals in contour restoration procedures are to re-establish the desired contour with the use of resilient and durable materials that can be easily found and harvested. Cartilage grafts are commonly used for these purposes though they often possess a problem of donor site morbidity and shortage of quantity. The neo-cartilage formation capacities of both perichondrium and periosteum are well-known. We aimed to optimize both the amount and quality of the newly forming tissue from perichondrial and periosteal grafts. For this purpose the grafts were wrapped on themselves. Placement of oxidized regenerated cellulose (ORC) within graft layers was performed in two groups with the aim of giving support to the regenerating tissue, and increasing the connective tissue formation within the graft layers. Three-month-old New Zealand white rabbits were used. Group 1 ear perichondrial, and Group 2 calvarium periosteal grafts of 1.4 x 2.4 cm were harvested, folded on themselves, and sutured at the edges to create closed pockets. 0.8 x 0.8 cm sized ORC sheets were placed inside the pockets before wrapping in Group 3 perichondrial and Group 4 periosteal grafts. 0.2-mL autogenous blood was injected in each pocket. All grafts were transplanted under the abdominal muscle fascia, and harvested after 6 weeks. Volumes and weights of wrapped perichondrial grafts were higher than their periosteal counterparts either with or without the inclusion of ORC. Grafts with ORC (Groups 3 and 4) were heavier than the grafts lacking ORC (Groups 1 and 2), in a statistically significant manner (P = 0.01). Histologically, the inclusion of ORC in both perichondrial and periosteal grafts resulted in an increased amount of fibrosis, yet did not preclude neo-cartilage formation. 相似文献

Objective: Pre-eclampsia is the result of impaired trophoblast invasion and spiral artery remodeling managed by inflammatory response in its etiology and physiopathology. The aim of this study was to compare serum molecules including IL-33, ADAMTS12, ADAMTS16 and ADAMTS18 levels between pre-eclampsia and control groups and to investigate the role of these molecules in pre-eclampsia.Methods: Forty-one women diagnosed as pre-eclampsia between 30 and 40 weeks of gestation and 41 non-complicated pregnant women were enrolled in this cross-sectional, case–control prospective study. ELISA method was used to determine IL-33, ADAMTS12, ADAMTS16 and ADAMTS18 levels within serums in two groups.Results: Serum ADAMTS12 and IL-33 levels were significantly lower in pre-eclampsia group (p?<?0.001 and p: 0.028, respectively), however, in sub-group analysis, no significant difference was observed (p?>?0.05). The cut-off value of ADAMTS12 levels to discriminate pre-eclampsia with %73.17 sensitivity and %92.68 specificity was 8.27?ng/ml while the cut-off value for IL-33 was 0.23?pg/ml with 82.93% sensitivity and 53.66% specificity.Conclusion: Pre-eclampsia is associated with lower serum IL-33 and ADAMTS12 levels. 相似文献

Rhinophyma is a subtype of rosacea which develops at the advanced stage of rosacea and is characterized by an excessive enlargement of the sebaceous glands. Its etiology is not well-defined beyond the following usual suspects: vitamin deficiencies, stress, hormonal factors and the Demodex folliculorum mite. Carcinoma may develop in rhinophyma patients. The first surgical process for rhinophyma was applied by Daniel Sennert in 1629. The ideal surgical method for treatment of rhinophyma is still unclear and controversial. Massive bleeding makes a controlled excision of the mass impossible, which contributes to the recurrence of rhinophyma. In this case, we combined trichloroacetic acid (TCA 45%) with dermabrasion, a treatment which hasn't been reported previously. Our method was suggested by the Mohs micrographic surgery technique, which employs serial excisions. 相似文献

We aimed to test the protective effect of dopexamine on renal function and systemic haemodynamics in rats with induced sepsis. Female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomized into three equal groups: group 1 (control, received 3% creatinine throughout the experiment); group 2 (sepsis, received 3% creatinine and Escherichia coli lipopolysaccharide [LPS] endotoxin [8 mg/kg per h]); and group 3 (sepsis plus dopexamine, received 3% creatinine, E. coli LPS and dopexamine [1 microgram/kg per min]). Time-adjusted heart rate, systolic, diastolic and mean arterial pressures, urine volume and glomerular filtration rate (from creatinine clearance) were recorded. After bacterial infusion heart rate increased and mean arterial pressure decreased; the fall in mean arterial pressure was less pronounced with dopexamine (group 3) than without (group 2). Dopexamine also induced significant and moderate increases in urine volume and heart rate, respectively. We concluded that dopexamine has some positive inotropic-chronotropic effects and induces favourable responses in renal function. 相似文献

Sodium metabisulfite (Na2S2O5) is used as an antioxidant and antimicrobial agent in a variety of drugs and functions as a preservative in many food preparations. In addition to their antioxidant activity, sulfites oxidize to sulfite radicals (SO3-) initiating lipid peroxidation. This study was performed to elucidate the effect of subchronic Na2S2O5 (520 mg/kg/day) ingestion on hepatic and renal antioxidant enzyme activities and lipid peroxidation in albino rats. The antioxidant effect of l-carnitine was also tested in rats treated with Na2S2O5. Plasma uric acid levels were monitored in all rats included in the study. Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels significantly increased in Na2S2O5 treated rats vs. controls, with kidney values of 2.21+/-0.21 vs. 1.22+/-0.35 and liver values of 79.85+/-19.5 vs. 31.36+/-5.0 nmol/mg protein, respectively. Selenium-glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity was significantly increased in Na2S2O5 treated rats vs. controls, with kidney values of 38.22+/-2.21 vs. 8.09+/-0.76 and liver values of 31.11+/-6.37 vs. 11.70+/-1.02 U/g protein, respectively. Sodium metabisulfite treatment increased plasma uric acid levels in rats that were included in the study. No protective effect of l-carnitine was observed against lipid peroxidation in both liver and kidneys of rats treated with Na2S2O5. The presented data confirm the prooxidant activity of sulfites and suggest that increased GPx activity and plasma uric acid levels may partially reduce the observed renal and hepatocellular oxidative damage caused via the ingestion of sulfites. 相似文献

We present an uncommon case of hyaline vascular type Castleman's disease mimicking a pancreatic tumour. A 56-year-old woman with constitutional symptoms was investigated. Pre-operative interventions failed to produce a definitive diagnosis. Surgical excision was performed and the tumour was diagnosed to be the hyaline vascular type of Castleman's disease histopathologically. Pancreatic Castleman's disease should remain a consideration in the differential diagnosis of a pancreatic mass. 相似文献

Sulfites are used as anti-microbial and anti-oxidant agents in a variety of drugs, and function as a preservative in many food preparations. In addition to these effects, sulfites oxidize to sulfite radicals initiating lipid peroxidation. The objective of our study was to investigate the effect of restraint stress and sulfite on brain lipid peroxidation and anti-oxidant enzyme activities. Forty male Wistar rats, aged three months, were randomized to one of the following groups: control, restraint stress, sulfite-treated and restraint stress + sulfite-treated. Chronic restraint stress was applied for 21 days (1 h/day) and sodium metabisulfite (520 mg/kg per day) was given by gavage for the same period. Lipid peroxidation was measured using the thiobarbituric acid (TBA) fluorometric assay. TBA-reactive substances (TBARS) were found increased in all treatment groups when compared to the control group. Spectrophotometric measurement of copper/zinc superoxide dismutase (Cu/Zn SOD) and catalase (CAT) revealed decreased enzyme activities in rats exposed to restraint stress compared to control and sulfite-treated rats. GSH-Px activities were significantly decreased in the restraint stress and sulfite-treated rats compared with the control rats. GSH-Px activity measured in restraint stress + sulfite-treated rats was significantly lower than in the other groups. The presented data confirms the pro-oxidant activity of restraint stress and establishes that decreased anti-oxidant enzyme activities in restraint stress-treated rats enhances brain lipid peroxidation caused via the ingestion of sulfites. 相似文献
