Aneurysm of an azygos anterior cerebral artery: report of two cases and review of the literature

Aneurysm of an azygos anterior cerebral artery is rare. Two cases are presented. In case 2, the coexistence of arachnoid cyst with this aneurysm is reported. Literature is reviewed.     

Short-term effect of nebivolol on the left ventricular diastolic function]

OBJECTIVE: To determine the effects of nebivolol on diastolic functions of the left ventricle in the hypertensive patients in the early treatment period. METHODS: Twenty patients with mild to moderate hypertension taking daily 5 mg of nebivolol were assessed by using Doppler echocardiography before and after 6-week drug treatment period. The results were analyzed with Wilcoxon test and p<0.05 was accepted as statistically significant value. RESULTS: The arterial blood pressure and heart rate of the patients significantly decreased after 6 weeks of treatment. Statistically significant decrease was found in the peak of A wave velocity, isovolumetric relaxation time, E wave deceleration time and increase in E/A ratio with Doppler echocardiography after 6-week treatment period. No statistically significant difference was observed in the peak velocity of E wave after treatment period. CONCLUSION: We found that nebivolol improved left ventricular diastolic function in patients with hypertension in the early term.     

Understanding Separation Anxiety Disorder

BACKGROUND. When children are acutely ill and life is threatened, separation anxiety can develop in parents and children. Separation anxiety has been studied through two traditions—as a normative phenomenon and as a disorder.

OBJECTIVE. To analyze and evaluate the literature to derive clinical and research implications.
CONCLUSIONS. Support was found for the development of interventions beyond the developmental stage of early childhood. The need for a family approach was evident.     

Impaired Verbal Communication During Short-Term Oral Intubation

PURPOSE. To describe the experience of impaired verbal communication during short-term oral intubation in surgical critical care patients.
METHODS. Semi-structured interviews(N=10)
FINDINGS. Patients identified feelings related to discomfort, fear, and frustration. Patients desired to communicate messages regarding pain and discomfort, difficulty breathing, length of intubation, use of restraints, family, physical status, and suctioning.
CONCLUSION. Findings can be used to educate patients and families and develop patient-driven communication tools.

The interview that wins the job
Obtaining a nursing position is often the first challenge for the graduate nurse. Understanding the interview process and making a plan that will ensure the graduate is placed in the best possible light is important for success in the interview process. This paper discusses getting ready for the interview, setting up the interview, dressing for the interview, the actual interview and following up the interview. Adherence to these guidelines can facilitate the graduate's success in obtaining the desired position.     

Snapshots of experience: vignettes from a nursing home

The specific aim of this research project was to examine and describe the experience of living in a nursing home for six people of 80 years and older. 'Visit' is presented as a means of developing nursing knowledge. This research method is founded on the belief that the act of nursing involves the development of a relationship, and was created out of the author's desire for a relational research method. Philosophical support for the method is provided by Maurice Merleau-Ponty's existentialism, Sally Gadow's existential advocacy, and Jean Watson's Human Caring Theory. Authenticity is proposed as an alternative to the concepts of reliability and validity for judging the scientific merit of the method. Whether the nursing role is researcher, practitioner or educator, each person's unique and inexhaustible story provides the basis for nursing care. Nurse researchers using 'Visit' as a method of inquiry can illustrate these unique differences through a story, through the images or pictures each individual creates with his or her own words.
