This study compared two groups of patients who were elderly and edentulous, one group included subjects who had mandibular overdentures supported by two implants (Group I); the other groups wore conventional complete dentures (Group II). This retrospective study included 100 edentulous patients (50 from each group) with an average age of 67.86 years, who had been followed for 4 years. The groups were compared in terms of patient satisfaction, quality of life (QOL), and bite force. The bite force and patient satisfaction scores of Group I were found to be statistically significantly higher than Group II (p < .05). However, no statistically significant difference was found between the two groups’ QOL scores (p > .05) except on the physical pain subscale (p = .013). Based on these results, it can be concluded that after 4 years of function, subjects wearing mandibular overdentures supported by two implants had higher values for bite force and patient satisfaction scores, but similar QOL scores when compared to conventional complete denture‐wearers.  相似文献

This paper describes and compares the oral health status among people with and without diabetes in France, and analyzes the related socioeconomic factors. The study is based on data from the cross‐sectional national health survey conducted in France from 2002 to 2003, which included 19,231 people over 35 years of age, among whom 1,111 reported having diabetes. Data were collected through interviews that inquired about oral health status and use of dental care services, income, educational level, health insurance, place of residence, and birthplace. The prevalence of oral health problems was higher among subjects who had diabetes, compared with those who were nondiabetic (16.4% vs. 13.4%). Dental care utilization during the survey period was reported to be 8.7% among subjects who were diabetic versus 12.9% among those who were nondiabetic. The subjects with diabetes were more likely to have dental problems (OR = 1.47, CI = 1.03–2.08) and wear removable dentures (partial and complete) when their income was lower (OR = 2.17, CI = 1.52–3.10). There were social inequalities in oral health among people with diabetes in France according to income level.  相似文献

The aim was to study the determinants of preventive oral health care need among community‐dwelling old people. The study population consisted of 165 participants, a subpopulation in the Geriatric Multidisciplinary Strategy for Good Care of Elderly People (GeMS) study. Fifty‐five percent of the edentate participants with full dentures and 82% of the dentate had a need for preventive oral health care. In the total study population, the need for preventive care was associated with co‐morbidity (measured by means of the Modified Functional Co‐morbidity Index) odds ratios (OR) 1.2 (confidence intervals [CI] 1.0–1.5), being pre‐frail or frail, OR 2.5 (CI 1.2–5.1), presence of natural teeth, OR 4.8 (CI 2.2–10.4), and among dentate participants, the use of a removable partial denture, OR 12.8 (CI 1.4–114.4). Primary care clinicians should be aware of the high need for preventive care and the importance of nonoral conditions as determinants of preventive oral health care need.  相似文献
