A capability for effective tissue reparation is a living requirement for all multicellular organisms. Bone exits as a precisely orchestrated balance of bioactivities of bone forming osteoblasts and bone resorbing osteoclasts. The main feature of osteoblasts is their capability to produce massive extracellular matrix enriched with calcium phosphate minerals. Hydroxyapatite and its composites represent the most common form of bone mineral providing mechanical strength and significant osteoinductive properties. Herein, hydroxyapatite and fluorapatite functionalized composite scaffolds based on electrospun polycaprolactone have been successfully fabricated. Physicochemical properties, biocompatibility and osteoinductivity of generated matrices have been validated. Both the hydroxyapatite and fluorapatite containing polycaprolactone composite scaffolds demonstrated good biocompatibility towards mesenchymal stem cells. Moreover, the presence of both hydroxyapatite and fluorapatite nanoparticles increased scaffolds’ wettability. Furthermore, incorporation of fluorapatite nanoparticles enhanced the ability of the composite scaffolds to interact and support the mesenchymal stem cells attachment to their surfaces as compared to hydroxyapatite enriched composite scaffolds. The study of osteoinductive properties showed the capacity of fluorapatite and hydroxyapatite containing composite scaffolds to potentiate the stimulation of early stages of mesenchymal stem cells’ osteoblast differentiation. Therefore, polycaprolactone based composite scaffolds functionalized with fluorapatite nanoparticles generates a promising platform for future bone tissue engineering applications.  相似文献

Between January 1980 and July 1983, percutaneous transluminal angioplasty was attempted on 137 stenotic renal arteries in 100 patients. At termination of follow-up studies (3-39 months, mean of 16 months), 70% of those treated for hypertension had benefited from the procedure. Stenosis secondary to fibromuscular dysplasia responded better than stenosis from arteriosclerosis (85% and 65% of the patients, respectively). Benefit was minimal for those with stenosis of the renal artery ostium or renal insufficiency. Determining levels of renal vein renin before angioplasty is helpful in selecting patients; following angioplasty, this has considerable significance in predicting the success of the procedure.  相似文献

The time course of specific antibody production, interferon production in the blood and cerebrospinal fluid, and the capacity of blood cells for interferon production were compared in 270 children with glandular and neuroglandular forms of mumps virus infection (MVI). A significant decrease of antibody production in neuroglandular form of MVI and lower interferon titres in the blood in the acute period of this form of infection were noted. The severity of the course of meningitis was inversely related to interferon levels in the cerebrospinal fluid of the patients. In aseptic meningitis, the capacity of blood leukocytes for interferon production upon their repeated contact with mumps virus was disturbed while interferon synthesis induced by other interferon inducers (polyI: polyC) did not change. In patients with neuroglandular form of MVI having low interferon titres, high monocytosis in the blood was observed at the period of meningitis symptoms onset. Superimposition of acute respiratory virus infections in MVI leads to more severe course of meningitis with prolongation of meningeal symptoms and of the period required for the elimination of pathogenic agents from the cerebrospinal fluid.  相似文献

To determine appropriate indications for breast imaging in young women, the authors correlated patient histories with mammographic and/or sonographic findings and biopsy or follow-up results for 625 patients aged 13-34 years. The only important indications were a palpable mass and suspicion of an abscess. Of the 335 studies performed for evaluation of a palpable mass, 184 (55%) were normal, 28 (8%) were compatible with benign disease, and 123 (37%) were suggestive of malignancy. Biopsies were performed in 73 patients; the findings were benign in 67 cases, and carcinoma was found in six. Imaging studies were considered helpful in four of the 15 cases of suspected abscess, in that the studies established the presence and extent of an abscess. Studies in 275 women were performed for a variety of other indications. The findings were normal in 239 (87%) studies, benign in 21 (8%), and suggestive of malignancy in 15 (5%); there were no known carcinomas in any of the patients. Women with the "low-yield" indications identified in this study should be followed up clinically rather than referred for imaging studies.  相似文献
