Although the Dexamethasone Suppression Test (DST) plays an important role in psychosomatic research, confounding factors limit the sensitivity and specificity of the DST. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the intensity of daily life stressors and DST results in healthy participants after controlling the confounding factors. The subjects of this study consisted of 75 healthy volunteers. The intensity of daily life events was assessed using the Taiwanese version of the Recent Life Change Questionnaire (RLCQ). Neuroticism was assessed using the Maudsley Personality Inventory (MPI). The Dexamethasone Suppression Test (DST) was also performed. The regression model showed that daily life events (RLCQ score) were correlated significantly with cortisol level on day 1 and D% only in women. This finding implies that daily life events should be considered as an independent variable in women in further studies when the DST is applied. 相似文献

Toxoplasma gondii infects all warm-blooded animals including humans, causing serious public health problems and great economic loss in the food industry. Commonly used serological tests involve preparation of whole Toxoplasma lysate antigens from tachyzoites which are costly and hazardous. An alternative method for better antigen production involving the prokaryotic expression system was therefore used in this study. Recombinant dense granular protein, GRA2, was successfully cloned, expressed, and purified in Escherichia coli, BL21 (DE3) pLysS. The potential of this purified antigen for diagnosis of human infections was evaluated through western blot analysis against 100 human serum samples. Results showed that the rGRA2 protein has 100 and 61.5 % sensitivity towards acute and chronic infection, respectively, in T. gondii-infected humans, indicating that this protein is useful in differentiating present and past infections. Therefore, it is suitable to be used as a sensitive and specific molecular marker for the serodiagnosis of Toxoplasma infection in both humans and animals. 相似文献

The Attentional Blink (AB) usually refers to the impaired report of a second target (T2) if it appears within 200–500 ms after a first target within a rapid sequence of distractors. The present study focused on a less studied AB variant known as the unmasked AB, where T2 is the last item of the sequence and T2 report is unaffected. This aspect of the unmasked AB holds promise for an experimental paradigm in which measures of on‐going event‐related processing are unconfounded by differences in late‐stage processing. To fully characterize the unmasked AB paradigm, we used a randomization statistics approach to comprehensively examine the electroencephalographic signature of the unmasked AB. We examined the unmasked AB with auditory and visual T2s—participants attended to either the auditory or visual information within a sequence of paired auditory‐visual stimuli, and reported targets within the attended modality stream while ignoring the other. As predicted, T2 report was unaffected by the unmasked AB. The visual AB was associated with delayed but intact N2 and P3 components, and a suppressed N1. We suggest that this N1 is linked to auditory processing of the distractor stream, and reflects the cognitive system prioritizing the processing of visual targets over auditory distractors in response to AB‐related processing load. The auditory AB only indicated a delayed but intact P3. Collectively, these findings support the view that the AB limits the entry of information into consciousness via a late‐stage modal bottleneck, and suggest an ongoing compensatory response at early latencies. 相似文献

Two genome‐wide association studies (GWAS) identified the β‐microseminoprotein (MSMB) promoter SNP, rs10993994:C>T, as significantly associated with prostate cancer (PC) risk. Follow‐up studies demonstrate that the variant allele directly affects expression of the MSMB‐encoded protein, PSP94, and also suggest that it affects mRNA expression levels of an adjacent gene, NCOA4, which is involved in androgen receptor transactivation. In a population‐based study of 1,323 cases and 1,268 age‐matched controls, we found the NCOA4 SNP, rs7350420:T>C, was associated with a 15% reduction in PC risk, but the association was not significant after adjustment for the rs10993994:C>T genotype. Tumor tissue microarrays of 519 radical prostatectomy patients were used to measure PSP94 and NCOA4 protein expression. Taken together, these data confirm that the rs10993994:C>T variant allele is associated with decreased PSP94 expression, and the association is stronger in tumor compared to normal prostate tissue. No association was observed between rs10993994:C>T and NCOA4 expression, and only moderate associations were seen between two NCOA4 SNPs, rs10761618:T>C and rs7085433:G>A, and NCOA4 protein expression. These data indicate that the increase in PC risk associated with rs10993994:C>T is likely mediated by the variant's effect on PSP94 expression; however, this effect does not extend to NCOA4 in the data presented here. 相似文献
