An unusual case of a 37-year-old female with xanthomatous bone tumor of the right molar area of the mandible was presented. The tumor was asymptomatic and found to be a well-demarcated intraosseous radiolucent lesion on radiographic examination. Histologically the tumor consisted of two cell types, fibroblastic and xanthomatous cells. There was no osteoid, bone or cartilage formation. However, numerous psammomatous calcified bodies were seen in the fibrous area. Ultrastructural study showed fibroblastic cells in different stages of proliferation as the basis of the tumor which transform itself into xanthomatous cells. From the clinicopathologic findings, our case was thought to be a xanthic variant of non-ossifying fibroma (so-called xanthofibroma) of the mandible.  相似文献

The structural basis of the high affinity interleukin-2 receptorwhich was previously reconstituted in a cultured murine T cellline, EL4 by expressing either wild-type Tac antigen complementaryDNA (cDNA) or a chimeric cDNA was characterized. The chimericcDNA encodes a membrane portion whose extracellular portionconsists of that of Tac antigen whereas transmembrane and cytoplasmicportions consists of those the human insulin beta chain. TheTac antigen/anti-Tac antibody complex was treated by chemicalcrosslinking reagents, purified by goat anti-mouse immunoglobulin(lg), and was analysed by SDS–PAGE. We here demonstrated the presence in mouse EL4 transfectantsof a novel membrane protein which is closely associated withthe products of transfected cDNAs in the absence of interleukln-2.The protein is 75 kDa in size and is detected in cells whichexpress high affinity interieukln-2 receptor but not in cellswhich only express low affinity interleukin-2 receptor. Thetransmembrane region and the cytoplasmic region of Tac antigenis not necessary for the formation of the complex consistingof Tac antigen and 75 kDa molecule, indicating that a murine75 kDa molecule associates with Tac antigen extra-cellularly.  相似文献

This study investigated whether interleukin-10 (IL-10) gene promoter region polymorphisms are associated with susceptibility to or clinical presentation of type 1 diabetes. The frequency of -1082G/A, -819C/T, and -592C/A polymorphisms was analyzed in 128 Japanese patients with type 1 diabetes and in 107 healthy control subjects in a case-controlled study. The allelic and haplotypic frequencies of the IL-10 gene promoter region polymorphisms were similar in patients with type 1 diabetes and in control subjects. However, the -819T and -592A allele were associated with adult-onset (>18 years) of the disease (p = 0.037). Furthermore, the frequency of ATA haplotype was increased in adult-onset patients than that in early-onset patients (< or =18 years; p = 0.037). Among the genotypes comprising ATA haplotype, the frequency of ATA/ATA was significantly higher in adult-onset patients than in early-onset patients (p = 0.004). These results suggest that the IL-10 gene promoter polymorphisms are associated with the age-at-onset in Japanese patients with type 1 diabetes.  相似文献

Differentiated gastric carcinoma (DGC) corresponds roughly to the intestinal type of gastric carcinoma described by Laurén. It has been suggested that DGCs arise from intestinalized gastric mucosa, but recent findings regarding their mucin expression do not support this hypothesis. To evaluate the histogenetic relationship between DGCs and intestinal metaplasia, lesions that are as small as possible should be examined. Twenty-five DGCs, ranging in their greatest dimension from 0.4 to 2.7 mm, were collected and divided into two groups by size. Group A consisted of 13 lesions less than 1.4 mm across, and group B of 12 lesions 1.4 mm or more. The presence of mucin and a brush border was assessed by immunostaining with antibodies against human gastric mucin, pyloric-gland-type mucin, Muc-2 glycoprotein, and CD10 antigen, and the lesions were classified as having the gastric phenotype (G-type), intestinal phenotype (I-type), mixed gastric and intestinal phenotype (M-type), or null phenotype (N-type). Thirteen (52%) of the 25 lesions were N-type, 5 (20%) lesions were G-type, 5 (20%) were I-type, and 2 (8%) were M-type. Group A had a larger proportion of N-type lesions than B (10/13, or 77%, vs. 3/12, or 25%; p = 0.027, chi-square test for proportions). Group B had a larger proportion of G-type lesions than A (5/12, or 42%, vs. 0/13, or 0%; p = 0.033). The phenotypes of the carcinomas and their surrounding mucosa were unrelated. Therefore, DGCs may arise from gastric mucosa affected by intestinal metaplasia or not, without having either the gastric or intestinal phenotype.  相似文献

Probiotics have been suggested to be effective for functional dyspepsia, but their effect on gastric motility is not clear. We evaluated the effect of Lactobacillus gasseri OLL2716 (LG21 strain) on mild to moderate delayed gastric emptying by a double-blind, parallel-group, placebo-controlled, randomized trial. Participants (n = 28) were randomly assigned to ingest LG21 strain-containing yogurt (LG21 strain group) or LG21 strain-free yogurt (placebo group) for 12 weeks. The 13C gastric emptying breath test was performed to measure the gastric emptying rate over time following ingestion of a liquid meal, and the time to reach the peak (Tmax) was used as an indicator of gastric emptying. We also measured the salivary amylase concentration, an indicator of autonomic dysfunction under stress. The per-protocol population (n = 27, male n = 4, female n = 23) was evaluated for efficacy. When a ≥30% reduction in the difference between participant’s Tmax and the Japanese mean Tmax was defined as an improvement, the odds ratio of improvement in delayed gastric emptying compared to placebo after 12 weeks was 4.1 (95% confidence interval, 0.8 to 20.2). Moreover, salivary amylase concentrations were significantly lower than in the placebo group, indicating an improvement in autonomic function. The present data were not enough to support the beneficial effects of the LG21 strain on delayed gastric emptying. However, if we define the odds ratio in further study investigated with a larger number of participants, LG21 strain might be expected to have some impact on delayed gastric emptying.  相似文献

The inner avascular zone of the meniscus has limited healing capacity as the area is poorly vascularized. Although peptide hydrogels have been reported to regenerate bone and cartilage, their effect on meniscus regeneration remains unknown. We tested whether the self‐assembling peptide hydrogel scaffold KI24RGDS stays in the meniscal lesion and facilitates meniscal repair and regeneration in an induced rabbit meniscal defect model. Full‐thickness (2.0 mm diameter) cylindrical defects were introduced into the inner avascular zones of the anterior portions of the medial menisci of rabbit knees (n = 40). Right knee defects were left empty (control group) while the left knee defects were transplanted with peptide hydrogel (KI24RGDS group). Macroscopic meniscus scores were significantly higher in the KI24RGDS group than in the control group at 2, 4, and 8 weeks after surgery. Histological examinations including quantitative and qualitative scores indicated that compared with the control group, the reparative tissue in the meniscus was significantly enhanced in the KI24RGDS group at 2, 4, 8, and 12 weeks after surgery. Immunohistochemical staining showed that the reparative tissue induced by KI24RGDS at 12 weeks postimplantation was positive for Type I and II collagen. KI24RGDS is highly biocompatible and biodegradable, with strong stiffness, and a three dimensional structure mimicking native extracellular matrix and RGDS sequences that enhance cell adhesion and proliferation. This in vivo study demonstrated that KI24RGDS remained in the meniscal lesion and facilitated the repair and regeneration in a rabbit meniscal defect model.  相似文献

BackgroundSagittal spino-pelvic malalignment in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP) have been reported in the past, which may also affect cervical spine lesions. The purpose of this study is to investigate the cervical alignment in patients with CLBP.MethodOf the patients who visited an orthopedic specialist due to low back pain lasting more than three months, 121 cases (average 71.5-years-old, 46 male and 75 female) with whole standing spinal screening radiographs were reviewed (CLBP group). Cervical parameters included cervical lordosis (CL), C2–C7 sagittal vertical axis (C2-7 SVA), and the T1 slope minus CL (T1S-CL). Cervical spine deformity was defined as C2-7 SVA >4 cm, CL <0°, or T1S-CL ≧20°. We compared the cervical alignment of these patients with 121 age and gender matched volunteers (control group).ResultsThe prevalence of cervical spine deformity was significantly higher in the CLBP group than in the control group (20.7% vs. 10.7%, P = 0.034). The mean CL was smaller in the CLBP group than in the control group (16.1° vs. 21.4°, P = 0.002). The mean C2-7 SVA was 17.6 mm vs. 18.7 mm in the CLBP group and in the control group, respectively (P = 0.817). The mean T1S-CL was larger in the CLBP group than in the control group (9.1° vs. 3.5°, P < 0.001). Multivariate analysis showed that people with CLBP were more likely to have cervical deformities than people without CLBP (odds ratio 2.16, 95% confidence interval 1.006 to 4.637).ConclusionsThis study results suggest that people with CLBP present with worse cervical sagittal alignment and higher prevalence of cervical spine deformities than age and gender matched volunteers with no CLBP. A case of low grade fever developing about a month before the discovery of gastric carcinoma is reported. No findings of infection or collagen disease were revealed. The fever continued for about 3 months, but promptly disappeared after surgical removal of the tumor. A superficial spreading mucosal carcinoma with minimal invasion to the sub-mucosa was seen in the antrum, showing the features of poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma. In addition, unique venous inflammation was recognized beneath and around the neoplasm. Arteries and lymph vessels did not exhibit any inflammatory changes. It was presumed that the gastric carcinoma had induced phlebitis, which subsequently brought about the fever. As to the pathogenetic mechanism, it was suggested that a substance produced by the carcinoma cells flowed into nearby veins to induce the phlebitis. Acta Pathol Jpn 42 : 293-297, 1992.  相似文献

Purpose. The intestinal epithelium is considered to be a feasible target for somatic gene therapy. To this end, Caco-2 cells derived from human colon carcinoma were transfected with a mouse interferon- (IFN-) expression vector and several stable sublines were established; this hetero-specific cytokine allows unexpected cellular effects to be avoided. Using the highest mouse IFN--producing sublines, the mode of IFN secretion was examined. Methods. The secretion polarity of mouse IFN- in its gene-transduced Caco-2 sublines was studied in a bicameral culture system in which the chambers were separated by microporous filters. Results. Mouse IFN- was secreted to the same extent from both apical and basolateral surfaces of the transduced cells regardless of cell aging. Conclusions. These results suggest that in the intestinal epithelium exogenous gene products such as IFNs can be delivered to both the luminal and blood sides in vivo. Thus, the intestinal epithelium may be suitable for systemic and local delivery of therapeutic proteins by gene transfer.  相似文献
